NOTICE TO EMPLOYER AND SAFETY DIRECTORAVOID INJURY

1. Remove and repair any tool that malfunctions. All personnel must be instructed to remove anymalfunctioning equipment.

2. Ensure that all employees who use this tool are trained in the proper use of this tool and are aware ofthe dangers that may arise if they do not follow procedures outlined in this brochure.

3. Enclosed are four (4) copies of “NOTICE TO OPERATORS, MAINTENANCE AND CLEANUPPERSONNEL.” Post one copy on the employees’ bulletin board; give one copy to the operator(s); giveone copy to the maintenance foreman; and give one copy to the sub-contract cleanup / internal cleanupforeman. Additional copies will be provided upon request.

4. The tool is designed and intended to be powerful. This fact should be obvious to your employees, butyou must emphasize it to them.

5. Never make modifications or alterations to the tool. Replace any missing or illegible labels.

6. Ensure that proper procedures are established in accordance with OSHA’s lockout/tagout procedures(29 CFR 1910.147) to prevent accidental startup or release of stored energy.

7. Follow our installation and maintenance instructions for proper installation and care of the tool.

8. Avoid injury. Do not permit the tool to be misused.

9. If you resell or distribute a Jarvis product, you must provide the purchaser with the appropriate safetysheets and tool brochure. Additional copies of safety sheets and tool brochures will be provided uponrequest.

NOTICE TO OPERATORS, MAINTENANCE AND CLEANUP PERSONNELREMOVE ANY MALFUNCTIONING TOOL FROM SERVICE

REPORT ANY PROBLEMS TO YOUR SUPERVISOR

1. Disconnect the air hose in accordance with OSHA’s lockout/tagout procedures (29 CFR 1910.147) be-fore sharpening blades.

2. Disconnect the air hose in accordance with OSHA’s lockout/tagout procedures (29 CFR 1910.147) be-fore performing any repair or maintenance.

3. Disconnect the air hose - or have the air hose disconnected - in accordancewith OSHA’s lockout/tagoutprocedures (29 CFR 1910.147) before performing any cleanup.

4. Disconnect the air hose when the tool is not being used.

5. Never put fingers, hands or other parts of the body on the cutting edge, in the cutting path or in the pathof the moving links.

6. Test the tool prior to use or daily. Depress each trigger separately and the blades should not close.Depress one trigger, then pauseone secondand depress the other trigger and the blades should not close.Repeat this procedure reversing the triggers. Depress both triggers simultaneously and the bladesshould close. With the blades closed, release one trigger and the blades should open. Continue holdingthe depressed trigger and then depress the other trigger. The blades should not close. Repeat this proce-dure holding the other trigger. If the tool malfunctions, remove it from service and report or repair itimmediately.

7. Never depress the triggers unless you want to use or test the tool.

8. Nevermake modifications or alterations to the tool. Report or replace any missing or illegible labels.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Refer to Figures A -- E for referenced items. Use Figure1 as a guide for connecting air hoses from the TWC to theair control circuit.

1 Suspend the TWC from a balancer. Jarvis partnumber 4042040 is available.

1.1 The TWC should have sufficient travel to allowthe operator to reach the entire work area.

2 Suspend the air control circuit in a convenientlocation using the supplied bracket (item 130).

3 An air regulator must be installed ahead of the quickconnect plug (item 116), before the air supply inlet tothe air filter (item 117) and lubricator (item 123).

4 Make the necessary air connections.Note: Connect the air hoses to the TWC prior to

connecting the air hoses to the control circuit.Refer to Figure 1.

4.1 The required compressed air supply is 0.108 ft3/ cycle at 90 psi (3.1 L / cycle at 6.2 bar).

4.2 Attach one grey cylinder supply hose (1059031)from the TWC cylinder connector (item 29)located on the rear housing plate (item 91) to thecontrol circuit top connector (item 29).

4.3 Attach the other grey cylinder supply hose(1059031) from the TWC cylinder connector(item 29) located on the quick exhaust valve(item 30 or 62) to the control circuit lowerconnector (item 29).

4.4 Attach the 1/4 inch blue air hose (1061455) fromthe connector (item 7) located on the left side ofpistol grip housing (item 36) on the TWC--1 orfrom the tee fitting (item 66) on the left side ofdual handle housing (item 59 or 99) on theTWC--2 or TWC--4 to the control circuitconnector (item 119).

4.5 Attach one of the 5/32 inch blue air hoses(1061449) from the elbow fitting (item 33 “a”)on the right side of pistol grip housing (item 36)on the TWC--1 or on the right side of dual handlehousing (item 59 or 99) on the TWC--2 orTWC--4 to the control circuit port labeled “a”.

4.6 Attach the other 5/32 inch blue air hose(1061449) from elbow fitting (item 33 “b”) onthe trigger handle (item 41) on the TWC--1 or onthe left side of dual handle housing (item 59 or99) on the TWC--2 or TWC--4 to the controlcircuit port labeled “b”.

UseFigure 1 as a guide for connecting air hoses from theTWC to the air control circuit.

1 Connect all air hoses to the TWC.

2 Connect all air hoses to the control circuit.

3 Each day, before you begin operation, perform thefollowing:

3.1 Make sure that the TWC moves freely on thebalancer.

3.2 Make sure that the compressed air is at the properpressure.

3.3 The TWC is equipped with dual anti--tie downcontrol handles. Check for the correct operationof the dual anti--tie down control handles prior touse or daily. Depress each trigger separately andthe blades should not close. Depress one trigger,then pause one second and depress the othertrigger and the blades should not close. Repeatthis procedure reversing the triggers. Depressboth triggers simultaneously (within one halfsecond of each other) and the blades shouldclose. With the blades closed, release one triggerand the blades should open. Continue holdingthe depressed trigger and then depress the othertrigger. Theblades should not close. Repeat thisprocedure holding the other trigger. If the toolmalfunctions, remove it from service and notifyyour supervisor immediately.

4 Making the cut:

4.1 Place the TWC in position on the carcass.

4.2 Depress both triggers simultaneously to close theblades.

4.3 Release either or both triggers to open the blades.

1.2 Inspect all hoses for leaks, cuts and abrasions andreplace if necessary.

1.3 Check all fittings for leaks and tighten or replaceas necessary.

2 AS NECESSARY:

2.1 Inspect blades (items 18, 52 or 104, 69 and 70)for wear and sharpen or replace as necessary.Refer to Sections 3 and 4 for blade and linkremoval and installation procedures.

2.2 Disassemble, clean and inspect cylinderassembly. Refer to section 5 as a proceduralguide.

3 BLADE AND LINK REMOVAL:

TWC---1

3.1 Remove link bolts (item 17) and lock nuts (item23).

3.2 Remove blade pivot bolt (item 20), lock nut(item 10) and washer (item 12).

3.3 Remove blades (item 18). Inspect for wear andsharpen or replace if necessary. Refer to Figure2 for proper sharpening angle of blades.

3.4 Remove cotter pin (item 13).

3.5 Slide links (items 22 and 24) to extend pistonshaft (item 83) and align yoke pin (item 15) withthe holes on the front of pistol grip housing (item36).

3.6 Remove yoke pin (item 15). Use a pin punch todrive yoke pin out through hole in pistol griphousing (item 36).

3.7 Remove links (items 22 and 24) from yoke (item14) and inspect for wear. Replace bushings (item21) if necessary.

3.8 Remove hex nuts (item 55) and linkage guard

(item 57).

3.9 Remove six (6) lock nuts (item 23) and rollerbracket (item 68).

3.10 Remove link bolt (item 17) and lock nut (item23).

3.11 Remove blade pivot bolt (item 20), lock nut(item 10) and washer (item 12).

3.12 Remove upper blade (item 52) and lower bladeassembly (items 51 and 69--71).

3.13 Remove socket head cap screws (item 71) andblade spacer (item 51).

3.14 Remove cotter pin (item 13).

3.15 Slide upper link (item 53) to extend piston shaft(item 83) and align yoke pin (item 15) with holeson front of dual handle housing (item 59).

3.16 Remove yoke pin (item 15).

3.16.1 Use a pin punch to drive yoke pin outthrough hole in dual handle housing.

3.17 Removeupper link (item53) and roller (item73).Replace roller bushing (item 74) if necessary.

3.18 Inspect blades (items 52, 69 and 70) for wear andsharpen or replace if necessary. Refer to Figure3 for proper sharpening angle of blades.

3.31 Inspect all parts forwear and replace if necessary.

4 BLADE AND LINK ASSEMBLY:

4.1 Reverse steps and procedures outlined in section3. See notes below.

4.1.1 Make sure curved end of friction plates (item16) are facing toward pistol grip housing(item 36) and away from blades (item 18).TWC--1 only.

4.1.2 Make sure roller (item 73 or 105) is placedinside upper link (item 53 or 93) and then

both roller and link are placed inside yoke(item 54 or 96).

4.1.3 Use a pin punch through one of the holes indual handle housing (item 59 or 99) to alignthe holes in the yoke (item 54 or 96), upperlink (item 53 or 93) and roller (item 73 or105) as you install yoke pin (item 15) inplace. Jarvis tool 8039169 is available. SeeFigure 4.

4.1.4 Make sure blade spacer (item 51 or 103) isplaced between left and right lower blades(items 69 and 70).

4.1.5 All nylock nuts are less effective afterremoval. ApplyLoctite242 to threadsof locknuts (items 10 and 23) when reassembling.

4.1.6 Be sure to install roller bracket (item 68) orroller plate (item 98) and linkage guard (item57 or 95) before using the tool.

5 CYLINDER DISASSEMBLY:

5.1 Remove blade and link assembly. Refer to stepsand procedures outlined in section 3.

5.2 Remove lock nuts (item 10), tie rods (item 92) orstuds (item 115) and housing rear plate (item91).

5.3 Remove cylinder sleeve (item 90).

5.4 Remove lock nut (item 88 or 114) from pistonshaft (item 83 or 111).

5.4.1 Hold the piston shaft steady by placing a 3/8inch wrench on the piston shaft’s flats.

5.5 Remove seals, piston andwasher (items 85-87 or85, 112 and 113).

5.6 Remove the yoke (item 14, 54 or 96) from thepiston shaft (item 83 or 111).

5.6.1 Use a pin punch through the holes in the yokeand a 3/8 inch wrench on the piston shaft’sflats to remove the yoke.

5.7 Remove piston shaft (item 83 or 111).

5.8 Remove socket head cap screws (item 81) orbutton head cap screws (item 110) from rodbushing (item 78 or 108).

5.9 Remove u-cup seal (item 79 or 109) from rodbushing (item 78 or 108).

5.10 Inspect all parts forwear and replace if necessary.

6 CYLINDER ASSEMBLY:

6.1 Reverse steps and procedures outlined in section

5. See notes below.

6.1.1 Make sure that flat surface of U-cup seal(item 79 or 109) faces toward rod bushing(item 78 or 108) when installed.

6.1.2 Make sure flat surface of U--cup seals (item85) are facing inward toward piston (item 86or 112).

6.1.3 Make sure, when placing the piston (item 86or 112) on the piston shaft (item 83 or 111),the piston’s deeper cavity faces the handlehousing (items 36, 59 or 99).

6.1.4 Apply Loctite 242 to threads of yoke (item14, 54 or 96) and piston shaft (item83or 111)before reassembling.

6.1.5 Apply Loctite 242 to threads of lock nuts(items 10 and 88) before tightening.
