“This is the victory that has overcome the world—
our faith.” ~ 1 John 5:4
Dear people of Zion,
As Pastor Gjerde pointed out last week in this newsletter, and has
stressed throughout this time of pandemic, the Christian view on life,
the way of Christ, is much different than that of the world.
This has caused me to think about how the devil can work in opposi-
tion to that very way of Christ. The old ancient foe seeks to steer us
away from the narrow way (Matthew 7:14) and seeks to deprive us
of that which nurtures our current life of faith. He uses whatever he
can at his disposal to divide the Church from within and try to sepa-
rate the believer from their Lord.
He can prey upon the old Adam/Eve in you or in others to make you
or them seem even worse. Perhaps it is for this reason many decry all
the political ads during an election year; so much talking past one
another than talking constructively to one another. The devil has
won if we think someone is completely irredeemable.
On the other hand, the devil also can get us to imagine that someone
(or even ourselves) are completely perfect in their own perceived
righteousness. This leads to tuning a deaf ear to any who think dif-
ferently or don’t think “like me.” It’s truly a “my way or the high-
way” mentality that can descend like a thick fog on any country.
This is why we remind you, dear people of God, about the impor-
tance of your faith “that has overcome the world.” Satan may be the
“god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4), but Jesus Christ is the true
God who has overcome the world in all of its bitterness. It is His will
to save and unite a Body, His Church. Baptized in His name, fed
with His body and blood, we go the way of Christ because there is
no other way, ultimately. He is the way, the truth, and the life.
The peace of God be with you always!

Helps for Daily Devotion
The congregational bulletin sent home each week during the shut-
down included an order for home devotion, daily Scripture readings,
and prayers. Starting in July, you will still receive those helps for
daily devotion! They will appear as a hand out in this newsletter en-
titled “The Shepherd’s Voice.”
The purpose of daily devotion is to hear the Shepherd’s voice and
thus live “face-to-face with God,” led and comforted by His holy
Word. He is present with us, not only in communal worship, but
also as His Word and sacraments work in our daily lives.
Catechumenate learning the gifts
Remembering examples of the faith in June
June 29: Saints Peter and Paul
St. Peter and St. Paul are two apostles through
whom God built the Church in its earliest days.
Peter was one of Christ’s first disciples (John
1:35ff), whereas Paul was converted after
Christ’s resurrection (Acts 9). Because of their
foundational importance (Ephesians 2:20), they
are often shown holding a small church. Both
apostles were likely martyred in Rome.

start the next exciting phase of their ministry in Cameroon. Pray that
the Fali will continue to be engaged and excited about their arrival in

lage Campus since 1990. They provide independent and supportive
housing services, residential services, and the latest in skilled and

New Radio Ministry at Bethany
Zion’s work with Bethany Lutheran Church in the town of Easton
has led to a new radio ministry! Our pastors will start sharing a 10-
minute radio message on WACD Country (106 FM) every Sunday at
8 AM, starting July 5. This brief radio message, following on a
popular polka program and a full hour apart from Zion’s broadcast,
will serve primarily Antigo and its surroundings. May God bless it!

Praying (continued from previous page)
“Let Me Be Yours Forever” is a hymn of commitment that has often
been used on Confirmation Day. The intimate language draws the
singer into a close conversation with God, confessing the desire to
belong to the one who is God and Lord, typified by His faithfulness.
The hymn addresses all three persons of the Trinity: God the Father,
who created us as His chosen people; Jesus who “did my soul de-
liver” and bought me “with blood and bitter pain;” and the Holy
Spirit who restores my soul and keeps us in the faith.
“This hymn becomes a prayer for everyday use that at the same time
prepares us for our last hours on earth.” [Lutheran Service Book
Companion: vol. 1: 9.]
