It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like ChristmasZachary to Host Open House and Parade on Friday and Saturday

With Black Friday over and Christmas just two weeks away, local merchants have joined with the Zachary Chamber and the City of Zachary for a Shop Local event this Saturday coinciding with the citywide open house and the an-nual Christmas parade.

The Annual Christmas in the Village Celebration will be held on Friday, December 12, starting at 6 p.m. in the Zachary Histori-cal district, in Downtown Zachary. Bring your family out for a night, not to be missed: an Old Fash-ioned Christmas Celebration. The Food Wround-up Trucks are com-ing to town! Mayor David Amrhein will of-ficially light the Christmas tree and the whole village aglow with the new Christmas displays at dusk. Come fill your ears with Christmas music from local choirs and entertainment at the gazebo, located on Virginia Street.

Bring your camera or let us take your child’s photograph with San-ta Claus by the 1940 Vintage Fire Truck. A mailbox in the village will be ready to receive Santa’s letters. Broncos Defeat Scotlandville, Advance to SemifinalsThe Zachary Bronco used their

high-powered offense to down the visiting Scotlandville High Hornets 41-26 in the Quarterfinal round of the LHSAA playoffs.

It was the 12th straight win for Zachary (12-1). The Broncos travel to play defending 5A champion Acadiana (10-3) in the semifinals. Scotlandville finishes 9-4. It is the first time Zachary has reached the Semifinals since 2009.

Despite a sore ankle, Zachary Quarterback Lindsey Scott completed 11 / 18 passes for 156 yards, as well as, numerous long runs for the Bronco offense. Zachary took their first pos-session opening downfield and scored as Scott threw a 65-yard scoring pass to Maurice Flowers. The first of Ash-ton Bastedo’s point after kicks made it 7-0 with 10:27 left in the first quarter. Zachary scored on its second posses-sion following a 13-yard Scotlandville punt. Shyron White caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Scott that made it 14-0 with 7:28 left. The Zachary of-

fense scored 21 points in the first half. The Broncos forced a Scotlandville

three-and-out to open the second half. Scott put the Broncos up 28-6 with another 42-yard touchdown run at the 8:02 mark in the third quarter.

Coach Brewerton and his team are eager to face the Acadiana Rams. Un-der former coach Neil Weiner, Acadi-

ana ended Zachary’s playoff drives in the past three seasons.

Local Eagle Scouts Honored

Matthew Michael Flanders Connor James Usie

Matthew Michael Flanders, the son of Chris and Vickie Flanders, and Connor James Usie, the son of Ron and Debbie Usie, were honored on Saturday, November 30th, 2014, for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Approximately 40 guests attended the BSA Troop 472 Eagle Court of Honor cer-emony held at St. John the Bap-tist Catholic Church gym. Both Eagle Scouts became involved in scouting at the very young age of 4 when their older brothers, Char-

lie Flanders and Tyler Usie, joined Tiger Cubs in the first grade. The younger brothers each awarded their older brothers, both Eagle Scouts as well, a Mentor Pin in recognition of their assistance and guidance throughout their scout-ing careers.

Matthew’s Eagle Project in-volved the construction and place-ment of wood duck boxes in an area near the Port Hudson Civil War battlefield along the Missis-sippi River. Connor’s Eagle Proj-ect involved the repainting of the

1400 ft. long black aluminum fence that surrounds the Port Hud-son National Cemetery.

Matthew Flanders is a freshman majoring in Computer Science at Louisiana Tech and Connor Usie is a freshman at Louisiana State University majoring in Account-ing.

By James Ronald skains

“The first thing everyone asks is how did I come up with the name “Frogskin Graphics,” Billy DeM-oss, owner of Frogskin Graphics along with his wife, Donna, told the Zachary Post. “It was not some stroke of genius; it came from the mouth of our then four year old son, Shelby, now 14.”

“He was playing with a piece of fabric when he told me, “Daddy, this feels like Frogskin.” I realized immediately that he had come up with a Graphic Designers’ dream name. We started Frogskin Graph-ics in Clinton which is the home town of both Donna and I, 11 years ago. Our business grew each year so we decided that since a lot of our business in the Clinton loca-tion was coming from Zachary, we would just open a store here in Zachary.”

“One of our specialties is full color graphics for vehicle wraps,” DeMoss explained. “Early on, we

Frogskin Graphics brings Feliciana Business into Zacharydid a whole fleet of trucks for the Tony Chacheres Seasoning Com-pany. That was an experience. We’ve also done a lot of work for Acadian Ambulance, Cajun Injec-tors, and Turner Industries.”

“When a customer comes in wanting a vehicle wrap, they typi-cally have some design in mind; sometimes even a picture. We’ve done golf carts, boats, trailers, 18 wheelers and just about anything that will roll. Camouflage is one of our most popular designs for off road vehicles and boats. Once we have a design layout, we begin to work back and forth with our cus-tomer to make sure we have the design just as they want it. We al-ready have templates for most ve-hicles on the market.”

“We then complete the proof, get their approval and then print out the design on our two 54 inch wide Rolland printers,” DeMoss elaborated. “We then do the instal-lation on the vehicles. Since we

start out with a template of each vehicle, the actual installation of the wrap doesn’t take long. We use all 3M film products which has proven to be the best of qual-ity for us.”

In 2013, Frogskin Graphics won third place in a national pro-motion for the Signs of the Times magazine. John Jackson’s (Out Da Bayou) truck was chosen in the Promotional Vehicle Category. The DeMoss husband and wife team tout Frogskin Graphics as Louisiana’s premier vehicle wrap company. For great design, great production and great installation, Frogskin Graphics is the choice.

Plus Frogskin Graphics is the only Place you can get a Frogskin wrap.

Billy DeMoss is a 1985 gradu-ate Silliman Institute in Clinton. In 1988, DeMoss graduated from the Art Institute of Houston with a degree in Visual Communica-tions in Graphic Design. After graduating from the art Institute of Houston, he spent several years working for a catalog merchan-diser in the panhandle of Florida before returning to his home town of Clinton.

oss, also the business manager of Frogskin, acknowledged. “I’m the art critic in the operation. I judge art based on two criteria; does it look professional and do I like it.”

“We also do wall graphic design and installation. In many ways, our custom graphic design for wall ap-plication is similar to wall paper. In fact, we are just now beginning to print on canvas. In addition to wraps we do the standard print-ing items of signs, banners, busi-ness cards, koozies and mementos. One of our new product additions is screen printing of shirts. We can print whatever design you can come up with.”

“We have hoped and prayed for success for Frogskin Graphics

since we started it,” Donna DeM-oss admitted. “We never antici-pated the success we’ve had. We originally hoped that it would be enough to earn Billy an income while I was working with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, but the little business that we had hoped for to start with quickly grew into a pretty big business for us.”

“I did retire from LA Depart-ment of Public Safety & Correc-tions not long ago. It wasn’t that I was tired of my job with the State, but that Frogskin had grown so rapidly. We just never anticipated the huge niche we’ve found in the market place for our products. We have regular customers both local-ly, statewide and even out of state. When I was working for the state, I was off on Holidays and had

vacation time, but with Frogskin Graphics, it seems I’m working all the time.”

“We have four employees now but we would like to hire two or three more, especially someone with graphic artist experience,” Donna related. “Now that we have opened an office in Zachary, we plan to get totally involved in the community especially with the Zachary Chamber of Commerce. We haven’t had time to set a date for a Grand Opening Event but we are thinking about what we want to do for our big splash.”

The four years Shelby, who branded the DeMoss Graphic business 11 years ago is now en-rolled in the Louisiana Connec-tions Academy, which is a online home school program. Fourteen year old Shelby is a Star and Life

Boy Scout and is now working on his Eagle Scout Degree. He also has a brown belt degree in martial arts from the Zachary Martial Arts Academy.

“We are very proud of Shelby. He does great academic work in the Connections Academy,” Billy DeMoss noted. “He seems to have inherited some of my talents in art and graphics, so who knows what career path he will take, but it seem very bright at this point in his life.”

“We are so grateful just to be in business and opening a location here in Zachary,” Donna DeMoss, in conclusion.

The four current employees of Frogskin Graphics are Matt Math-erne, Lacie Mayfield, Jennifer For-sten, and Jacob Bennett.
