Lower Huronian aedinsnts, counon to the general area, outcrop in Shedden Township in a broad bolt, as shown on tho nap. Theso sodinnnts ajre in faulted contact with tho older Sudbury Scries on tho south alone; i a zone extending through Serpent LJkc and passing very close to the north f shore of '..'ollord Lake. Ilissiasagi quartzite*, comprising the lower f nenber of tho Huronian sysvnn, are overlain on tho south by a group of younger Huronian aediaenta and these latter sodiracnts oro in turn faulted against the nore or leas achistod, rocks which comprise the Sudbury scries in the imediate area. East of Serpent L .kc the huronian sediments are cut by a basic sill or dyke which appears to be of a fjuarts diabasic composition.

The Misoiosagi nerabor of the aedirentary caries is composed of medius grained pink or green-aliadcdjjaore or less feldspathic, quartzite* which are intent ratified with denser, dark coloured, finegrained iropuro quartzite a. These fine-grained band* vary in width from a, fow feet to several tens of feet and occur at various stratigraphic, levels in the Misoiosagi levels in tho !ii*9iosagi asdber. Along the quartsite3*-Pro*Huronian contact vest of Claar Lake the lliaaissegi sediments appear to have been rather severely metaoorphoood over a width of 500 * 600 feet. In places, they now appsar os alnrjt oaaaive quarts. Vestiges of detrital textures ore evident in placet 0 and narrow i/ispy bands of red stairdng are present along possible fomer bedding planes. Tho quArtsitea dip steeply south in thio area to about 7^ degrees. Just cast of Clear Luke the quartzites appear to have offset, to the south along a. fault that ia ctriking approx5Jt^t®ly li 60 W. This fault cuts across the ctrike of the qwartxitea at an anjle of about 35 decrees. Thio phenomenon in rather atrildLnfily illustrated on tho aerial photograph of the area. The basic intrusive cutting tho sediments io also of fast along this structure. ILinor structures exa lined in the fiold indi cate a Ucxtral movcoont having taken placo along this fault surface. Shearing in tho quartzite ana granite strikes parallel t.D tho strike of the fault and is localised over a width of three feet. In clain Ko. 670if6 anonalouo radioactivity of 5 io 6 tir..: background was noted in, thio zone of shear.

in faulted contact.

The younger sediments are in turn faulted a^ainot the Sudbury series on tho south. These older sediments are, in this area, ootaoornhosed to a monotonous bait of schists injected by dykes of u younger granite and quartz Teins of considerable width, in places. The strike of the schistosity is appro: JLmatsly east-vos t and tho dip io vert* col.

She c msoHdated rocks in the area ww-e all found to bo Precambrian i a|[9. Three rock types; granite, oicacecus schists and homeblende schists predominate. Quarts veins, dioritic rsnncntn and quart '/i te were aleo oboerwd on the property,

schistsu

The micaceous scliista found on the property probably represent the notuaorphic onuivalonta t)f sediosntary and volcanic rocks which have been cubjceted to high pressure, temperature, anJ shearing stresses. According to Abrahan" the agents of netaoorphian were undoubtedly the injection of the Cutler Batholith to the south, and the ilurray faults to the north.

Tfee mica achiats on the property are generally composed of nuscovito with varying a-ounts of garnet and ruartz. The rode ranges in colour f rea a silver-whitu to golden-red. The golden-rod shade was found to increase in intensity as the garnet content increased and scaied to bo d-jft to han&titc staining. The gamoto found are probably of tte variety alnondina jnd have an average diaf.xetor of 1/8 inch, The garnet in the nuooovite schist is usually rjlaasy end b rownish red in colour.

Quarts inclusions, oontaon in tho schistoco rocks^ probably represent quartz pretisnt in the original rode. The quarts, generally fractured, liea in sraaUL kitfnay-likio nascos in tho s coe p] one as tho {schistosity in the rock. ftw quarts MM found to range in colour from ra Iky vriiite to a dark blusi •hade, inpa."ting at tica-3, a blue colour to a froth asunplc.

Uuneroufl granitic dykes and plugs :;ero found on tho area surveyed, the greater number being concentrated in the northeastern section. Homally the granites exhibit narked variation in grain oize, ranging from aplite to pegmatitic. The feldspars range froodite to pink in colour. The quarts was found to be glassy to oilky-uuit*. liafics are generally spars* in tho granite, however, nuscovite is always present to a greater or lesser degree. In soae places the muscovite vaa found in fairly large crystals, '''''mall granitic dykes and stringers were found to cut all the other rocks oo the ground covered, and nuot therefore be oonoidored tlie youngest raaraber of the rocks to be found on the property.

Pegmatite 6 Cnartg dykes i

Pegmatitic dykos and charts veino exo widely diotrUbuted throughout the area surveyed. Tho strike of tho dyUeo or voins is gonorally the eaae as that of the schistosity. In places, networks of quartz veins, pegmatite and granite dykes were observed. .

Generally, the granite dykes arc quite pegmatitic in plates 0 the constituents being quartz, feldspar and nniscovit*. In floras places muscovite crystals, up to i" in length and 3/8" in dionoter constituted as cuch aa

of tho rock taaso.

Quarts veins are quite co&rvm on tho property. Tho quarts itsolf la nomally a nilky**jh*.te coloxir, '/o*'', of the quart* observed showed no sign of. fracturing or of any metallic nint.v*al3.

STRUCTURAL..GjMLDCT

Field.obcorvationa indicate that the area covered by the geological survey ia undcrloiji bv Itighly aotanorphoccd scdinontary volcanic asid intrusive rocl-.s. The granitic bodies coanoniy obsorvod throug!wut t'. * area ourvcyod probably rcpfcsont the u^pcr c:;pres3ion of a largo granite naao, at shallow depth, which account3, at leaat in part, for the high grado cseta- twrphisa obacnr^J tTiroughout tho area.

HortVaouth faiilting was probcbly lioitcd to the south*centi*al part of tho property, ae shown on the geological n*p. Any east-xfeot faulting* vrould possibly hare been obscured by tho hig'.ly schistose and altered nature of tho rocks.
