Mini conference: The Reggio Emilia Approach to Early Childhood

The Reggio Emilia philosophy to early childhood education is an approach that values and trusts children and their ability to develop and grow organically, and in ways that best support their current developmental needs. When we view children as learners who are valuable members of the community, we then change the way we view children. When that lens shifts, we can positively and effectively adjust the way we support their needs as they journey through childhood, into adulthood and throughout the community. The 2019 Reggio Emilia Mini Conference is geared toward early education teachers (e.g. childcare providers, group daycare, pre-school, pre-K, home school and family childcare providers) as well as parents. Early childhood daycare providers will receive professional development credits and a certificate of attendance. For more information, contact Sarah Bucio at [email protected].

WE Conference Session Descriptions

8:30 – 8:45 Welcome – WE Conference Introduction Renita Robinson, MEd, MS | CEO, YWCA Greater Green Bay This time will include a welcome, and brief description of the programs and vision for the YWCA. 8:50 – 10:00 All It Takes Is One: Becoming a Contagion Worth Catching Ashley Anne, PhD | Founder, Lotus Healing, LLC Dr. Ashley Anne introduces us to brain basics to illustrate that self-care is the most important thing we can do to help the world heal. At some point, many of us learn that prioritizing ourselves is selfish or counterproductive to serving others. Instead, neuroscience research is making it clear that becoming our best selves is the singular most efficient way to support those we love the most. Dr. Ashley will start the day by guiding us through a five-dimensional roadmap of being human and will illuminate the neurobiological process of how our individual selves become contagions worth catching.*Preapproved

by NCHEC for Category I continuing education contact hours (CECH) No Small Matter – Documentary Viewing No Small Matter is a feature-length documentary film and national engagement campaign that brings public attention to this vital question by sharing powerful stories and stunning truths about the human capacity for early intelligence and the potential for quality early care and education to benefit America’s social and economic future.

Workshops: Session I

10:15 – 11:30

1A: The Truth about Being Human Ashley Anne, PhD | Founder, Lotus Healing, LLC In this workshop, Dr. Ashley Anne shares the neuroscience behind being human and how energy and information is automatically and instinctually exchanged between two people, even without words. Although we often strive to be independent individuals, the truth is that we are all one big social brain, and we communicate using emotion. Our bodies and minds are not as separate as we once believed and as we learn to live this truth, we transform our lives and the lives of those around us. Dr. Ashley will introduce specific lifestyle changes to support our healing and will show us how making these changes automatically and unconsciously helps others to heal. Along the way, she’ll share her own story of healing in four dimensions – body, mind, relationships, and energy – in hope that you will be inspired to do the same.*Preapproved by NCHEC for Category I continuing education contact hours (CECH) 1B: The Legacy of One Heather Faulkner I Director, Young Life Green Bay Track: Culture and Advocacy Teenagers are often misunderstood and pushed aside, but they are the future! Come learn the struggles of navigating adolescence and the power of mentorship in that journey from Green Bay’s very own students. Be inspired and learn how just one adult can have an impact on the lives of students in our community that leaves a legacy. *Preapproved by NCHEC for Category I continuing education

3B: Intersectionality & Hidden Figures: Are We Erasing Black Women? Robin Tinnon I Executive Director, We All Rise: African American Resource Center Marena Bridges I Oneida Nation of Wisconsin This session will explore Intersectionality through the lens of a Black Woman and the work of Black Lives United - Green Bay/We All Rise: African American Resource Center. Many embrace the terms diversity, intersectionality and inclusion without noticing their participation in the erasure of Black Women, both physically and intellectually. Misinterpretations and misapplications of ideas weaken their critical power and prevent them from doing the work they need to do. When you claim intersectionality as a necessary part of your feminism, does that intersectionality center Black womanhood for the sake of all humanity, as those who first named this practice aimed to do? We will use a power-point presentation, interactive activity & real-life examples to engage participants in this topic. *Preapproved by NCHEC for Category I continuing education contact hours (CECH)

Participants will be doing activities requiring light touch, but the activity is easy for anyone to do. The somatic exercises Susan guides you through will allow you to feel in your body the power of conflict resolution techniques. By experiencing these principles in a physical way, you will have direct access to buried wisdom, strength, and powerful ways of knowing that are not accessible to your ordinary, conscious mind. *Preapproved by NCHEC for Category I continuing education contact hours (CECH)

WWGP continues to operate through the lens of midwifery. In 2001, Alice authored a unique relationship development tool named Discovery Dating. Discovery Dating helps the reader to explore the attitudes, behaviors and beliefs of the people with whom they are developing relationships. asserts that there are no current writings that gives a realistic view of her coined term ‘African

Americanism.’ This book discusses race, culture, and spirituality as it all comes together to form the

black experience. As a passionate community member, she intends for her work to touch the lives of

many and bring homage to those living with the margins or race, class, and gender and managing

every day to find ways to live their best lives.
