morning. The students will return on June 16.

The action-fi lled week provides high school students opportunities to learn fi rst-hand what it is like to be involved in politics, community service and today’s pressing issues in the energy industry. Students will meet their elected representatives in the U.S. House and Senate and visit historic sites.

The trip is intended to educate students about the role of electric co-ops in the national economy, to foster their appreciation for a democratic government, expose them to the sights and sounds of our nation’s heritage, and build their leadership skills so they may make a diff erence in their communities.

The Electric Cooperative Youth Tour has been a joint eff ort of local electric co-ops, such as People’s Electric Cooperative, their statewide co-op associations, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) for 52 years. Since 1964, more than 50,000 young Americans have taken advantage of this special opportunity off ered by their electric cooperative. PEC alone has sent 91 students since 1964.

PEC is committed to delivering safe, reliable, competitively priced services and energy to its member-owners, while being an outstanding community partner. 851351600

The idea of owning a more effi cient home—and paying lower utility bills—has widespread appeal, but fi nding

ways to fund needed energy effi ciency improvements can often be a challenge.

Fortunately, PEC’s Heat Pump Loan Program allows members a convenient fi nancing option for the purchase and installation of electric air-to-air, dual fuel, and

geothermal heat pumps. Loan terms up to 120 months and monthly payments added directly to your electric bill are available.

A heat pump provides your home’s heating and air conditioning all in one unit. As the name implies, heat pumps simply move heat from one place to another. During winter months, they collect and consolidate heat from outside sources and move it inside; during summer months, they reverse the fl ow and send warm, indoor air out.

Loan interest rates are 7.5% or 10.5%, determined by whether or not you join our Sure BET (Bills Electronically Transferred) program. (7.5% with SURE BET and 10.5% without SURE BET) There is a $35.00 loan document fee, which is added to each loan.

Four area eighth grade students have been selected as winners of People’s

Electric Cooperative’s (PEC) Youth Power Energy Camp essay contest. The camp is held at Canyon Camp near Hinton, Okla. each year.

Energy Camp participants develop leadership skills, have summertime fun and learn about rural electrifi cation. Eighth graders across PEC’s service territory are invited to submit letters to enter the contest each year. Four outstanding eighth graders were selected as winners this year:

Alexia Atkeson of Latta Middle School, Kervon James of Latta Middle School, Gabrielle McMahon-Csaki of Vanoss Middle School, and Hallie Wood of Vanoss Middle School.

The winners will spend May 31-June 3 enjoying the activities at Canyon Camp participating in volleyball tournaments, swimming, hiking, energy battle, ropes course and making new friends and memories. In addition, they will experience fi rst-hand the exciting world of electricity, climb poles, and watch a co-op crew at work. Plus, they will have the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills by working with new found friends from every corner of the state to set up and run their own cooperative business.
