Youth Autism Diagnostic Clinic www.autism.org.au Who is Eligible? Individuals aged 13 to 30 years inclusive with a developmental profile warranting assessment for Autism. Why is diagnosis important? Individuals who are diagnosed with Autism may have access to the support they need to overcome difficulties in education, employment, independent living and quality of life. What is the Cost? There is no fee for eligible individuals provided they have a medicare card and bring it to their appointments. What is involved in Assessment? Our assessment process is multi-disciplinary and involves a Psychiatrist, a Psychologist and Speech Pathologist. Who should attend the Assessment? The individual must be accompanied by a person who can give an account of the individual’s early childhood development (this is usually a parent, but it can be another family member who knew the person as a child). What is required prior to an Assessment date? A referral from a GP or Medical Specialist is required (we will supply a Diagnostic Referral Form to for completion by a doctor) Provide copies of any other diagnostic or relevant medical reports How long will the Assessment take? If an individual meets criteria for assessment, clinic appointments will be established. Assessment will require appointments with the Psychiatrist, Psychologist and Speech Pathologist over a 4 – 5 week period. Who should the referral for Assessment be addressed to?
