Welcome!

Thank you for expressing interest in arranging a wedding ceremony at Connection Pointe. We are happy to offer assistance to all who desire to establish a solid Christian home. We want the beginning of your married life to be as meaningful as possible and your home to be established in the will and teaching of God. No matter what type of wedding you are planning, large or small, simple or elegant, the main purpose is the uniting of two lives into one through the exchanging of vows. Since the vows are made before God, they deserve the dignity of a worship service. We have developed this booklet to assist you in planning a wedding that is pleasing both to you and the Lord.

For this reason, a man will leave his father and mother

and be united to his wife and the two will become one… Genesis 2:24

Wedding Requirements

• Bride and/or Groom must be a Connection Pointe Member

• Bride and Groom must agree to premarital counseling and complete this 6-10 week program at least 1 month prior to your wedding.

• On campus weddings must be officiated by a Connection Pointe Ordained Pastor.

• Saturday on-campus weddings must begin no later than 1:30 pm and be completed and rooms cleaned by 3pm for the next event set-up.

• Bride and Groom must agree to use our Wedding Coordinator for an on-campus wedding.

To begin the process of confirming your wedding date at Connection Pointe:

• Complete the Bride’s Sheet, Groom’s Sheet and Wedding Ceremony Agreement.

• Return all forms with the required $300 deposit to the Connection Pointe office to the attention of Care Ministry Coordinator (See Required Fees & Payment Sheet).

Once all wedding forms and deposit are received, the Care Coordinator will appoint an Officiating Pastor for your wedding and will arrange a Wedding Coordinator who will assist you in the details of your wedding ceremony. Pre-Wedding Counseling/Marriage Mentoring To provide the best start to your marriage, we require that you complete our pre-marital counseling process. Following these sessions, you will meet with the Officiating Pastor to finalize your wedding plans and review insights learned during counseling. Wedding Coordinator Our Wedding Coordinator will assist you in the planning of your CP campus wedding ceremony. They will also schedule and confirm your wedding date and time with the other individuals involved in the ceremony (custodians, security, sound technicians, etc.). They will assist with wedding ceremony details only, not with any reception details. If you have an outside Wedding Coordinator, that person should assist you with reception details. Our Wedding Coordinator is required for any campus weddings performed by a Pastor of Connection Pointe. The CP Wedding Coordinator will conduct the wedding rehearsal for the Pastor if they are unavailable due to an emergency and will be available the day of your wedding. Ordained Connection Pointe Pastor All weddings are to be performed by an Ordained Pastor of Connection Pointe. If the initial scheduled pastor has an unforeseen event, an alternate Ordained Connection Pointe Pastor may conduct the ceremony instead.

The Wedding Covenant Marriage is established by God as a covenant and not a contract.

• A covenant is based on trust between parties; a contract is based on distrust.

• A covenant is based on unlimited responsibility; a contract is based on limited liability.

• A covenant cannot be broken if new circumstances occur; a contract can be voided by mutual consent.

• Your wedding is very important to God and His church because it has a biblical tradition.

Why are the parents of the couple given special seating? The parents of the bride and groom are part of the marriage covenant. The commitments they make during the ceremony are just as binding as the vows of the couple.

Why does the groom enter the auditorium first?

By entering the auditorium first, the groom signifies that he is the covenant initiator. This is important because whoever initiates the covenant assumes greater responsibility for seeing it fulfilled. God initiated the covenant of salvation with us. God is still at work to fulfill His covenants and Christ will soon appear with the sound of trumpets to consummate the wedding with His bride, the church.

Why does the father walk with the bride down the aisle?

This symbolizes the father’s agreement with the bride’s choice of a husband. “I am endorsing this man as God’s best choice for you and I am now bringing you to him.” At the same time, the father states that he is presenting the groom his daughter who he has earnestly endeavored to train up as a pure bride.

Why does the minister ask the question, “Who gives this woman to be married to this man?”

This response symbolizes not only the full blessing of the parents, but also the transfer of responsibility to the groom by the father. A daughter is under the authority and responsibility of her father until she is married.

Why do the bride and groom take each other’s right hand during the wedding vows?

The open right hand offered by each party symbolizes their strength, resources and purpose. By clasping each other’s right hand, they are pledging these to each other. Just as we depend on the saving strength of God’s right hand, so each partner can depend upon all the resources that the other brings into the covenant relationship.

Why does the groom make the vows first?

He must be the leader and assume the greater responsibility to fulfill the marriage covenant. As covenant initiator, he must commit himself to the purpose of marriage, which God established in the beginning.

Page 6: Your Wedding - Amazon S3...Our Wedding Coordinator will assist you in the planning of your CP campus wedding ceremony. They will also schedule and confirm your wedding date and time

What is the significance of the wedding ring? It symbolizes transfer of authority, strength and protection. In scripture, the ring is a symbol of authority with the resources that accompany it. In a covenant relationship, the ring symbolizes identification.

Why is the couple pronounced husband and wife?

The pronouncement of husband and wife establishes a definite point in time for the beginning of the marriage. These words are to remove any future doubts in the minds of the couple or the witnesses about the validity of the marriage.

What is the purpose of introducing the new couple?

The introduction of the new couple establishes their change of names. In the marriage when the wife takes on the name of the husband, the man becomes known as the husband of the wife. When God made the covenant with Abram, he changed his name to Abraham.

Why do you serve food at a reception?

Food is part of the covenant celebration. One of the root meanings of the word covenant is to feed. Following the marriage, a feast was customary to further symbolize the unity of the couple. Entering into a meal is a form of covenant. It is significant that the first event of Christ’s ministry was to attend a wedding feast and His first miracle took place during that occasion.

Why does the couple feed cake to each other?

This act symbolizes their becoming one flesh. By feeding cake to each other, they are saying, “This represents my body. As you eat it, I am becoming a part of you and as I eat the cake that you give to me, you become a part of me.”

Three Promises

The Officiating Pastor requests each couple, whose home he helps to establish by solemnizing the wedding, to accept these three promises:

1. We will keep in touch with each other after the wedding. The Pastor is interested in your

home. If you live away from Brownsburg, an occasional note or letter would be appreciated. 2. If ever the home is threatened, both of you agree to consult the Pastor or a reputable

family counselor before either or both of you discuss your differences with anyone else (including family members or attorneys).

3. Both of you agree to seek a home church together and to make an earnest effort to be

faithful members (if not before your marriage, certainly within the first year of your married life). Regular worship attendance together, during the period of pre-wedding counseling, is expected.

Premarital Counseling/Marriage Mentoring

Congratulations on your engagement! God intends marriage to be a relationship of oneness and transparency. Connection Pointe is providing you an opportunity to examine your relationship closely with a trained Marriage Mentor/Counselor and Pastor prior to your vows. As a part of Counseling/Marriage Mentoring, you will be taking a Premarital Assessment which, as you answer, will give an objective evaluation of the health of your relationship; where you have strengths as a couple and where you may need some growth.

The Process After you return your information sheets and deposit, our Care Coordinator will email you a link for your Marriage Mentoring paperwork to be completed within 1 week. You will then be paired with a trained Marriage Mentor couple, or counselor.

Our CP Marriage Mentors are trained in Dare To Be Different, a marriage mentoring program. The sessions require 6-10 times prior to your wedding.

At Connection Pointe, we encourage you to build a relationship with your mentor couple. Lean on them after your wedding as a couple who can help you grow in your marriage and encourage you in times of need. There will be a 1-year follow-up with your Marriage Mentor to celebrate your 1st year and help encourage you in any areas that you may be struggling. If your Marriage Mentor couple determines that you need more in-depth premarital counseling, we have a list of Christian marriage counselors we can refer you to. These counselors will be at your own expense. If referred to a counselor, you will be required to attend at least one session & provide feedback to the Care Ministry Coordinator. We want to offer you the choice of 1 of 2 book options. Research & decide which book would be best for you as a couple to read & discuss. Please mark on your Bride/Groom Information Form which book you prefer, and your Wedding Coordinator will provide the book to you. 1. Boundaries in Marriage - Henry Cloud, John Pearson, and John Townsend 2. Love & Respect - Emerson Eggerichs

Photographs/Videos

• If the photographer wants to set up a backdrop for your photography session, please let your Wedding Coordinator know before the rehearsal.

• If you plan to have photos taken before the ceremony, you need to be finished 45 minutes before the wedding begins. The wedding party may return to the Pointe for photographs after the ceremony. Please inform the Wedding Coordinator regarding your schedule for photos.

• Any videotaping should be done from a stationary position that has been discussed and approved by the Wedding Coordinator and the Officiating Pastor.

• The aisles must be kept clear.

• The recording should be silent and not require lighting changes or lighting other than the normal sanctuary lighting.

• Microphones should be placed near the camera, so the microphone cable does not present a walking hazard.

• Videographers are encouraged to attend the rehearsal to get acquainted with the lighting and set up of wedding.

Church Reception Due to campus activities, wedding receptions are not available; however, a receiving line may be arranged. No refreshments may be served. The Bride and Groom may choose to dismiss guests by row instead of having a receiving line. Discuss dismissal options with your coordinator.

Those attending the rehearsal should include: • Wedding Coordinator • Vocalists or other musicians • Persons performing readings during the ceremony • Complete Bridal party • Ushers • Parents Practicing the wedding music might not be done during the rehearsal, but it may be done before if the vocalists and pianists are present for sound check prior to rehearsal.
