Residential Success

Both our residential trips were a

great success this year. Y5 went

to Pendine and Y6 went to

Llangrannog. We were very

lucky with the weather.

I would be interested to know

whether as parents you feel we

should be putting a residential

trip on for Y4, or lower???

Personally, I feel it would be

great to get Y4 for on a trip to

Borfa house in Port Eynon for 2

nights. I’m mindful these things

aren’t cheap, especially when

you have more than one child in

the school. Please could you let

me know your thoughts through

HSA Chair Would you be willing to step up into the role of the Home School Association (HSA) chairperson. It’s a crucial role for the school in helping to raise funds for the extra bits! Jess Bresnan has done a great job for the school, but she is keen to take a step back. Could you help??

Retirement I have kept ou informed of a number of TAs who have taken Voluntary Redundancy/Early Reitrement this year: Mrs L Aston Mrs J Miles-Couling Mrs J Jones Mrs H Rees Mrs T Lewis who worked 1:1 with a pupil in Year 6 has also decided to retire to the good life. We wish all of them the very best and thank them for their years of work at Bishopston Primary. If you get a chance to personally talk to them, I’m sure they would appreciate it.

JOB ADVERT Do you like the idea of being a lunchtime supervisor? You would be working between

11:55-12:55 each day. The role would entail

Supervising pupils at play

Playing and interacting with the children

Supervising pupils eating their lunch

If you are interested, please put it writing and hand it to Mrs Mitchell or Mr Owen.

Class Lists Class lists will have come home last Friday. Please be assured a huge amount of thought,

from every teacher in the school, goes into putting children into classes. You will

appreciate that having split classes means that pupils from one year group very rarely all

stay together. Thanks to so many of you for your support and trust in the school.

It is essential that you realise that every class teacher has a responsibility to ensure all

pupils in their class are making progress.

Reports Reports will come out on Friday 13th July. They have been revamped after listening to

parent views on the previous report style. We hope they will be more informative and

simpler to understand.

From the reports you should be able to see:

If your child is working below/at/above the expected level for their year group in the

core subjects. Their levels will be shared with you.

Your child’s attendance record for the year

Your child’s National Test results

Eco Committee Success Last week the ECO committee were awarded for the work they have done to make our school more Eco friendly. We’re delighted they have received recognition for their work. Here are just a few members holding up their new flag. Thanks to Mrs Melling for coordinating this. They are already planning how to get the next stage of award which involves using more data to demonstrate the progress we are making!

Governors

We’re sad to report that Kath Mattingly, our chair of governors, is resigning from being a governor. She has been brilliant for the school and will be missed enormously by staff and governors.

Lost Property

We have MASSES of lost property with NO names. Please will you look on the playgrounds in the evening of the last week in term. Lots of it is lovely, please use it! Any still left over will be taken away from school during the summer holidays. Can we also remind you to name any new uniform you buy over the Summer holiday. J&S Products one of the shops that sells the school uniform will be stocking uniform with the new badge. However, because they still have a large amount of uniform with the old badge it will be sold at a discounted price. If your child has Free School Meals, and is in Reception next year there is a grant for school uniform now. Please ask in the office for details.

Bishopston Comp Car Park

The comprehensive school have asked us to

remind parents that their car park should not

be used as a drop off point in the mornings.

Their car park doesn’t open until 9am and

our pupils should be in school for 8:50,

therefore we should not need to use it in the

mornings. They have also asked me to em-

phasis that If in the day you ever do use it,

please DO NOT park in the bus bays at any

time.

Yoyos We don’t

get things

right all

the time!

I’m very

sorry for

the Yoyo

saga.

I hadn’t realised quite how commercialised

the Ned show would turn out to be. We

took it on having had it recommended to

us. The reports were that the assembly was

very good and the resources excellent.

However, I want to apologise that so many

children came home with a message of

NEEDING an expensive yoyo!

Enterprise We’re delighted that pupils continue to think up enterprising ways to raise money for charity. Pupils have set up a stall to sell ‘stuff’ in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Charity.

The pupils, led by Megan Crutcher and Bronion Martin, raised £75. Megan’s grandmother has kindly agreed to match that. £150 is therefore being sent to Macmillan from the school.

Other pupils have also been keen to get involved. We have decided that next year we will build Enterprise weeks into the school calendar where these events can take place in an organised manner.
