College Tech Prep Articulated Credit What you need to know about Tech Prep Articulated Credit:

Post-Secondary Faculty and Secondary Instructors work together to align curriculum so students earn college credit in high school.

Tech Prep career pathways begin as early as middle school and seamlessly transition into high school Career Tech programs and onto LCCC into a certification or associate’s degree.

Tech Prep students can save thousands of dollars on college tuition and expenses.

Tech Prep Articulated Credit is available for two years after high school graduation.

Credit is posted onto a LCCC transcript after high school graduation.

No grade is associated with the articulated credit; credit is posted as a transfer credit with a P for passing.

There is no cost to the student to earn Tech Prep Articulated Credit.

To receive credit at Lorain County Community College: Student must apply for admission to LCCC while in their Career Tech program.

Student must successfully complete both years of their Career Tech program with a 3.0 GPA or better.

Student must graduate with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or better in grades 9 – 12.

Student may need to provide proof of credentials or licenses; present completed Career Tech Passport to faculty; master a competency exam; or achieve high attendance marks.

Students do not need to enroll in classes at LCCC for credit to be posted onto their college transcript; credits may or may not be transferable to other post-secondary institutions (determination made by receiving institution).

Career-Technical Credit Transfer (CTAGs)About CTAG Legislation:

The Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Ohio Department of Education align curriculum at secondary and post secondary institutions across the state of Ohio. The Career-Technical Credit Transfer process ensures that students who earn credit in CTAG courses at any approved secondary institution can transfer their CTAG college credit to any approved post-secondary institution; meaning that students CTAG college credit transfers across Ohio’s public colleges and universities.

What you need to know about Career-Technical Credit Transfer Credit (CTAGs):

Curriculum for the CTAG credit is approved by a panel of faculty experts from Ohio colleges & universities.

CTAG credit is available to students in Career Tech programs and is transferable to Ohio public two-year or four-year college and universities that are approved to award the credit.

CTAG credit is available for up to two years after high school graduation.

Students do not need to enroll in classes at LCCC for credit to be posted onto their LCCC college transcript.

No grade is associated with the CTAG credit; credit is posted as a transfer credit with a P for passing.

There is no cost to the student to earn CTAG credit.

College Credit Plus (CCP)

About College Credit Plus legislation: Ohio’s College Credit Plus program allows students to simultaneously earn high school and college credit that apply towards a professional certificate or associate degree.

What you need to know about College Credit Plus: Students must be currently enrolled in grades 7 through 12.

Students must be “college ready” using the same standards as traditional college students.

The college course counts for both high school and college credit; the college grade is reflected the same on both transcripts.

Courses can be taken on one of LCCC’s campuses, online, or if offered, at the student’s high school.

Students are limited to 30 credit hours per year; are eligible to take summer courses; and are capped at 120 credit hours in grades 7 through 12.

There is no cost to the student to earn CCP credit. Students are not charged for college tuition, lab fees or books.

To receive credit at Lorain County Community College: Student must apply for admission to LCCC via the CCP Application and be accepted into the CCP program.

Student must submit their middle school or high school transcript.

Student must provide ACT or SAT scores or take the Accuplacer placement test at LCCC to determine college readiness.

Student must meet regularly with their secondary school counselor and LCCC CCP counselor to ensure proper course selection.

Student must pass the college course with a grade of D or better.

Advanced Placement Credit (AP)What you need to know about Advanced Placement or AP:

Students who take AP classes in high school have the opportunity to earn college credit by passing AP exams.

Earning college credit with AP allows students to save money on college tuition and can be used in conjunction with CCP, CTAG and Articulated credit.

There is no cost to students for posting AP credit on their LCCC transcript.

To receive AP credit at Lorain County Community College: Students must complete a LCCC application.

Students must submit final high school transcript.

Students must earn a minimum AP Exam score of 3 or higher.

Students must have the College Board send official AP scores to the Registration and Records Office for evaluation, either at the time of testing or later with a score report request.
