FORT WORTH ART DEALERS ASSOCIATION

FWADA is a unique arts organization in a unique American place. Few cities of Fort Worth’s size are privileged to com-mand such a wealth of major art museums, and fewer still have such a vital community spirit. What truly sets Fort Worth apart, however, is the vigorous, longstanding, clearly defined coop-eration between the museums, the university art galleries, the non-profit exhibition spaces, and the art dealers, all of which are full working members of FWADA. To fulfill its stated mission to stimulate interest in the visual arts through educational pro-grams, art scholarships, and art competitions, FWADA orga-nizes, funds, and hosts exhibitions of noteworthy art. It spon-sors the Fall Gallery Night for members and friends, as well as Spring Gallery Night. All these attainments have created a stable environment that produces a steady stream of top-notch talent, including major local artists who exhibit their work nationally and internation-ally. Newcomers are frequently dazzled by the quality of work being created in every medium and style. Their passion rein-vigorates Fort Worth patrons who have become habituated to the riches that surround them, reminding them anew that the most authentic cultural connection they can make is the one that affords direct communication with the artists who interpret and illuminate the life experience they share through common background and interests. Although the city is justly recognized for its cosmopolitan worldview, it is the local artists and their devoted collectors who are the lifeblood of the Fort Worth art market. The members of the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association are pledged to the maintenance of a high standard of ethical con-duct and professional integrity, these businesses furnish a model that gallery associations in other cities might do well to emulate. FWADA is to be commended for its important role as a contributor to the cultural and esthetic richness of Fort Worth. – Suzanne Deats

Multitude, Solitude: The Photographs of Dave Heath

On view through September 16 From a crowd gathered in Central Park to solitary figures lost in thought, Dave Heath’s powerful photographs of loss and hope conjure feelings of alienation and a desire for human connection. Multitude, Solitude highlights the photographer’s black-and-white pictures of the 1950s and 1960s, an intense period of self-discovery and innovation for the artist. During these pivotal years, Heath developed groundbreaking approaches to narrative and image sequence, producing exquisite individual prints; hand-made book maquettes; his poetic masterwork, A Dialogue with Solitude; and multimedia slide presentations. His sensitive explorations of loss, pain, love and hope reveal Heath to be one of the most original photographers of those decades.

reisha Perlmutter: UndercurrentsFort Works Art welcomes artist Reisha Perlmutter to Fort Worth. Residing and working in Brooklyn,Perlmutter has shown at some of the most prestigious galleries in New York and the Hamptons including Allouche Gallery and Roman Fine Art respectively. Reisha Perlmutter’s works are charged with the role femininity plays in our society and the undercurrents that exist within this content and conversation. The female form, whether in her water filled worlds or coated in mud, capture moments of purity and freedom for the subject and reflect upon their feelings on their bodies. There is a self-realiza-tion of the changing, transitioning and searching women go through in their journey for self- acceptance. The water offers the opportunity of examination, while the mud coating brings a contradictory clarity to the female form.

Artist and professor of advertising and marketing at SMU, Willie Baronet, has been buying and collecting homeless signs since 1993 as part of a long-term art project titled “ WE ARE ALL HOMELESS .” In 2014 he began a 31-day cross country trip to buy signs in 24 cities, which was the subject of the documentary film “ Signs of Humanity ” . It explores interrelated themes of home, homelessness, compassion, and humanity. “Signs of Humanity” premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival and has been accepted into seven additional festivals. He has done exhibits featuring these signs across the U.S. and in the UK. The project has been featured in dozens of international and local media, including Yahoo! News , NPR - All Things Considered , HuffPost , Al Jazeera America , BuzzFeed , Fast Company’s blog (posted by Katie Couric) , and dozens of others. An “ UpWorthy” video about the project that was uploaded on August 31, 2015 has been viewed over 6.4 million times. “It’s not us and them. It’s just us,” Willie says “I used to think they were different than I am and I think a lot of us are just one or two bad decisions from being in the same place.” One will also see new works from the gallery artists.

FREDERIC REMINGTON: ALTERED STATESFrederic Remington: Altered States is a small focus exhibition that tells the provocative story of three paintings from the museum’s collection that were altered after completion: one demonstrates an artist’s change, one demonstrates fraudulency, and one remains a mystery. The subject of fakes and forgeries is one that is not only prevalent in art museums but is also pervasive in our day-to-day lives. Just as society continues to improve methods for contending with issues of counterfeit, the art world has yet to develop a foolproof system for authenticating works.

An international group exhibition that explores a variety of experiences of the contemporary female flâneur, if indeed there is such a thing. In 19th century France, where the term originated, the flâneur was a man and usually understood to be a wealthy, urban explorer with time on his hands. Perceived as an aesthete and a liter-ary figure, the flâneur was a significant observer of contemporary life. A flâneuse is thought to be a woman that behaves like a flâneur, but is that really the case? Contemporary artists respond to this question.

J t Grant - walking the horizonGrant’s long-awaited exhibition will fea-ture new skyscapes, tulip paintings and figurative works. Dichotomy is a key source of tension in Grant’s work. Grant’s paintings derive from his reac-tions to social, economic and political strife in a rich land. Balance is gone, even the horizon crooked, chaos grows. A painting’s apparent subject serves as a pleasing, yet secondary point of reference through which the viewer first enters the work. Colors are literally the alphabet of a vast, instantaneous subliminal language and when placed in conjunction will trigger intense internal dialogue, interacting as triggers to a word-less dialectic. Color, like pinball posts, moves the eye around the picture plane in Grant’s work, while also tapping the linguistics of color wherein broader meaning lies.

WAterInspired by the ocean, Julia Ross’s first solo exhibition features astonishing works in acrylic, glass, metal and encaustic. New perspectives are gained with each trip to the beach. Drops of paint begin the process which extends to the canvas and defines a new perspective of land-scape, water, sea life and the ever-changing ocean climate. Layers of transparent color and metallic elements combine to relay a calm strength inherent in our oceans as well as the land. Portion of the sales benefit Oceans Conservancy. Show dedicated to Cameron Ross (1992-2018). Other gallery “water” works also featured.

The story behind BLK EYE Vodka started with a bold idea. From that, we created something entirely unique. By combining a surprising signature ingredient with an artisan’s commitment to craftsmanship and original Texas art on every bottle, we’ve taken the fine art of distilling in an all-new direction. With 100% Texas roots from farm to bottle, BLK EYE is the first vodka crafted by hand from black-eyed peas. The result is a smooth-tasting stroke of genius. At BlackEyed Distilling Co., we just believe an ultra-premium experience should be evident from the first sip. 2017 Global Spirit Awards Double Gold Medal and Best Traditional Vodka Winner.
