Homework RoutinesLanguage & Culture

Homework in the language classroom is an integral part of the learning process. We see homework as an extension of the learning that takes place within theclassroom. All students are expected to rote learn a group of sentences (as directed by the class teacher) over a period of 5-6 lessons.

Your child is expected to evidence their learning of these sentences by writing outthe sentences in his/her purple A4 exercise book. It is important that your childspaces out this learning over a period of several nights so that the learning movesto their long term memory. Lessons will also focus on the set of sentences to helpembed the language chunks before moving on to subsitution and adaptation.

Your child will need to self-correct theirwork using a different coloured pen. Attention to detail is key . Accents do matter!

On the quiz day your child will write outthe sentences from memory. Marks willbe awarded per each accurate word. Marks will be deducted for even thesmallest of spelling mistakes includingmissing accents.

You can help quiz your child at home by:• checking they are self-quizzing• testing them orally on the sentences• hearing him/her read out the

sentences aloud• quizzing him/her on words/phrases

from the sentences

Your child’s teacher may also supplement the rote learning withother exercises to further aid progression such as reading exercises;listening; translation; online activities.
