Guidance for completing MFL work:
The work inside the booklets on ClassCharts/in school reception contain enough work to cover the 12 hours of lesson time you would have had in this half-term, it is therefore expected that you spend a similar amount of time completing the tasks. This can be done in small chunks and/or with regular breaks. You will be directed by your teacher to which lessons you need to complete.
The content of the booklets is based on activities/tasks from your lessons. This means that you should be familiar with the different types of tasks set by your teacher. Within each booklet are instructions (in English) for every task that you have to complete.
If you struggle to understand a task, please see below a list of useful websites to help you with vocabulary & grammar:
- https://www.wordreference.com (online dictionary) - https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/levels/z98jmp3 (grammar & vocabulary)
- https://quizlet.com/topic/languages/ (vocabulary learning)
All answers to the tasks are at the back of the booklets provided. This means that once you have completed certain tasks, you can mark these yourself to see where you have made good progress and which areas you may need to revise.
Remember - you do not need to print out the work - you could just read it on screen and work in an exercise book or on lined paper. There are also printed copies of the booklets available to pick up from school if anyone cannot access them on a screen.
If you have any questions about the work, please don't hesitate to get in touch via the Contact page on the school website or emailing your teacher directly.

Lesson 3: Qu’est-ce qu’il y a dans ta ville? (What’s in your town?) L’objectif: Can I explain what there is/is not in my town and give my
opinion?
In/On: Quick 10. Without using your Sentence Builder, complete the following vocabulary
test.
Task 1: Grammar: definite/indefinite articles. In French, we always need an article before a
noun (e.g. a place in town). These articles are either a, the or some. However, the articles
must agree with the gender of the noun (masculine/feminine). See the list below of the
different definite and indefinite articles in French, depending on whether your noun is
masculine, feminine or plural. Then, complete the gaps in the three sentences with the
correct article.
Tip: In order to work out the gender of the noun (place in town) look back at the colour
coding in your sentence builder. The blue places are masculine nouns, and the red places
are feminine nouns.
Task 2: Mosaic listening translation. Listen to the recording (on Classcharts) and work out
the translation into English of each sentence by colour coding the grid below. If you are
unable to access the recording, the sentences in French are available underneath the grid
for you to
read, and
work out
the English
translations
using the
grid.
Task 3: Write a short description introducing where you live using the pictures below.
Depuis trois ans…

where I live?

Count up your points at the end!
Task 1: Memory recall. How much of the vocabulary on Sentence Builder 1 can you
remember the English for?
Task 2: Faulty translation. Read the texts and identify all of the errors in the English
translation, then correct them.
Task 3: Pyramid translation. Which of the following sentences can you translate into French
without using your Sentence Builder?
Task 3 Answer box:
Task 4: Independent writing task. Write a response to the following question: Où habites-
tu? - Where do you live?
- Where is it located?
- What is there in your town?
- What is there not in your town?
If you really need to, then refer back to your Sentence Builder. However, the purpose of
this activity is to show that you are able to produce a short paragraph independently as you
have worked through 4 lessons with the Sentence Builder.
Défi/Challenge: Include some vocabulary that we have used in lesson, that is not on
your SKO to show that you are developing and extending your language skills!
