English No test for English. Children’s work counts towards their final mark. This is moderated by the Local Education
Authority. Every piece counts! Deadline for final marks is 24th June 2016.
Results! Levels abolished – we now have standardised
scores. 100 = ‘expected standard’. Raw scores converted to a scaled score using
a conversion table. Results released in July 2016 – each pupil will
receive a raw score, scaled score and confirmation of whether they have attained the expected standard.
How to help your child
The biggest single influence on your child’s SAT marks will be their reading ability. Good readers can read questions quickly, and understand what they need to do. Continue to encourage your child to read every day, looking at both stories and non-fiction.
How you can help ? English Take an interest in your child’s learning and progress. Read and discuss as many different examples of text as you can with your
child.Question your child about what they are reading.Discuss the layout of text and talk about plots and characterisation.Work on the individual targets for both reading and writing that your child is working on. Complete the homework set. Take advantage of booster groups and tuition when offered.
MathsMake sure your child has instant recall of all tables and associated division facts.Give them everyday problem solving situations to think about.Encourage the reading of timetables.Complete the homework set. Ensure your child attends school every day.
