Dates: Monday 21st May - Friday 25th May

Leave school at 9.30am on Monday 21st May

Return back to school approximately 6.00pm on the Friday ( we will confirm a time as we are travelling back).

Adults: Seven adults will be attending the trip. Mr Lamb, Mrs Fisher, Mrs Beard, Mrs Burdett plus three others

Travel arrangements

Travel by coach from school to Portsmouth leaving at approximately 9.30am

Portsmouth to Ryde FastCat passenger service (Catamaran). We will travel as foot passengers (22 minute crossing.)

Crossing time: 2.15pm (need to be there at least 30 minutes before)

At Ryde we will be met by two PGL coaches to take us to the centre

Journey The children will need a substantial pack lunch as they will not be arriving at the

centre until late afternoon. Please provide plenty of soft drinks (not fizzy).

Children can bring games such as playing cards/Top Trumps, paper and pencils, reading book etc. to keep themselves occupied on the journey

No electronic devices or mobile phones allowed

Light weight coat/waterproof needed as there is a short walk from the coach –ferry terminal

Suitable footwear for walking

Children will be allowed to bring no more than £20 spending money as there is a small tuckshop and opportunity to buy small gifts. Spending money should be brought in a small wallet or purse and handed to your group leader who will look after it until there is an opportunity to spend it.

Kit list It is important that the children have long sleeve tops and long trousers as many of the activities require the children to wear these. Sunglasses can also be brought at the childrens’ risk.

On the Thursday evening, the children will have a disco.

No hairdryers or straightening irons etc.

Bedding is provided this year.

Activities - staffing Every activity is delivered by one, or sometimes two, PGL staff. There will

always be a member of school staff with the children on every activity.

Safety equipment is always worn – they are very stringent about this

We are covered by PGL travel insurance

All PGL staff have a current DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) and an enhanced check is completed.

All PGL instructors are highly trained and meet the requirements laid down by national governing bodies, including The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), The British Activity Providers Association (BAPA) and the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC).

Diary Competition

Each day your child’s group will be required to write an inventive, imaginative diary entry for their activities.

There will be a small prize awarded and points.

The group with the most points will receive a larger prize at the end of the week.

Year 6 literacy skills as well as fun, relevant illustrations will be expected!

Meal times

Unlimited access to the salad bar and bread bowl.

Vegetarian option.

Water, squash, tea and coffee are available with all meals and children are encouraged to refill their water bottles.

Expectations of behaviour

The children will be expected to follow our school’s high expectations of behaviour at all times

We expect the children to listen and follow the instructions of all adults, both school staff and PGL staff

If a child is not listening to adults, and is deemed as being unsafe, parents will be called to collect them.

Medical/dietary informationConsent form:

This includes parent details including contact numbers

Your child’s last tetanus jab date

Permission to take photos

Medical conditions – treatment (including dosage), special dietary needs and other relevant information (bed wetting, sleep walking, vegetarian etc.)

We will provide paracetamol, ibuprofen, anti-histamine syrup (Piriton/Loratadine), Wasp-eze – please do not send these with your child.

Groupings

The children will be put in to activity groups.

Activity groups will have 10 – 11 children in each group with a named member of staff.

The children will be in these groups for all their daytime and evening activities.

Evening activities – often all groups come together.

Chalet groupings – the children will be involved in deciding who will be in their chalet with them with staff having the final decision.

The adults chalets are strategically placed so that all children are near to an adult.

Accommodation

Chalets sleep from 4-10 children. All have their own en-suite bathroom with toilet, wash basin and shower. The centre allocates which chalets we have and the number of children to be in each chalet.

All parents will be given a school mobile phone contact number in case you need to reach us in an emergency

A Group call will be sent to let you know we have arrived

School Website – there will be a residential blog which will be updated regularly with information about what the children have been doing and photos will be uploaded

If we have any concerns about your child, we will contact you

A Group call will be sent when we are travelling back from Portsmouth to give you an estimated arrival time back at school
