We live on a sin-polluted planet and often there are problems that arise, however it is well-known in academic circles that those who have faith demonstrate higher levels of resilience and coping with life’s difficulties.

Some time ago I came across this story that illustrates how, with a different perspective, we can handle the challenges that life presents to us.

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited

island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger.

"God, how could you do this to me!" he cried.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.

"How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers.

"We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God.

It’s worth a thought. Mark B Vodéll Principal

DRIVING SPEED ON CAMPUSA reminder to all parents please note that while you are driving on campus the speed limit is 15km. For the safety of everyone concerned please adhere to this at all times.

CHANGE IN TRAFFIC CONDITIONSAs you may have noticed we introduced a traffic management process during the afternoon pick up times at the end of Term 2. This meant that traffic could flow in and off campus without being held up by cars parked in the free flow traffic lane. Thank you to our Parent Community for being supportive of this process.

GCCC NEWS• 27th July - We welcome

PB4L MATRIXAs we continue to focus on our 3Rs – Respect, Responsibility and Resilience, we will be making these values and how they can be demonstrated more visible around the college campus. Another resource we provide is through SEQTA. If you would like to find out more about how we are encouraging our students to demonstrate our 3Rs you can look at our Active Matrix and click on hyperlinks to view videos produced by our students and posters that we display in the relevant spaces on campus. You can access the PB4L Active Matrix via SEQTA Engage and clicking on the Portals tab and selecting PB4L Active Matrix.

as physical and emotional changes, hygiene and how to support your child as they go through these changes. It is a requirement that all Year Five students and parents attend. We will be giving out 1 PEP hour on the night.

NUDIE FOOD DAY On behalf of the SRC, we would like to introduce our

new ‘Nudie Foodie Tuesdie’ initiative which promotes healthy eating and supports the combat against rubbish. The amount of rubbish produced and found around the school is overwhelming, so we came up with the idea of a Nudie Foodie day. On Tuesdays, starting Term 3, we encourage students to bring unpackaged and fresh foods to school for recess and lunch.

Students can bring items such as yoghurt, fruit, nuts, vegetable sticks, dips, sandwich, rice or pasta. We aim to minimise the amount of rubbish produced in our school environment by bringing package free lunches. With your help, we can make our school a cleaner and environment-friendly place.

TERM 3 BOOK WEEK COMING UP

Our yearly Book Week will be celebrated this term during

Week 6, August 19-23

Theme – The Bible “My Secret Power”

For this year we have altered the Book Week theme to align more closely with our Christian values and emphasis.

Each class has chosen a Bible character or story to portray during

our Book Character Parade. The class teacher will decide whether to let students come as any character in that particular story or may

assign different roles to students that relate to the story. Students may also decide to come as a different Bible character to

that studied in class for that week. For further details on how you can assist please consult your child’s

teacher or a note may be sent home outlining what is needed.

Students will parade in their costumes in the gym on Friday, August 23.

Parents are also welcome to participate in the parade as your

favourite Bible character.
