Exam and Controlled Assessment dates: Art Examination - 27th and 28th April

Exam paper breakdown: The Externally Set Assignment is worth 40% of the GCSE. Preparatory period: Minimum 20 hours Sustained focus: 10 hours - Examination The process of producing work for assessment begins once you receive the paper (w/b 25th January 2016). You should develop your response to the theme in a personal, creative way. The preparatory period consists of a of minimum 20 curriculum hours. You should be producing supporting studies, developing, refining and recording your ideas towards the final outcomes. The period of sustained focus consists of no more than ten hours working under supervised examination conditions, in an appropriate studio setting, producing your final outcomes in response to the theme.

In English Language it is essential controlled assessments are at your target grade to give you the best chance of achieving this grade overall. Exam Date: Unit 2: The Writers’ Voice - Tuesday 7th June.

Key topics: First and foremost you MUST make sure you know Of Mice and Men. This includes all the key characters and themes. It is then essential you learn language techniques. In order to prepare for this exam, you should learn 8-10 key extracts from Of Mice and Men well. The extracts should cover all the characters and all the themes. You should make notes about how Steinbeck presents characters and themes in these extracts, and be able to look at how the extract uses language to do this. For the writing question, make sure you know the conventions of a speech, article, leaflet and letter. Revise AFOREST PRAM, punctuation and planning. Read widely, so you get ideas for your own writing, both in terms of style and content. Websites: There are lots of good websites to support you. English Literature Unit 2: Understanding Poetry is 25% of your overall Lit grade. It is also 1 hour 45 minutes long Part A: Responding to an unseen poem. Part B: Comparing two poems you have studied from the Clashes and Collisions section. One poem will be

named, whilst you get to choose the other.

Revision sessions: Revision sessions will be held on April 8th for both papers, and Tuesday nights will then focus on Literature and Language revision. Before Easter, you are welcome to come to English any Tuesday. Staff will work with you to help you revise the key areas you feel you need to work on.

You then need to make sure you revise the characters of each novel, the themes of each novel and language techniques/PEEE skills. For Animal Farm, learn key extracts. For Of Mice and Men, do essay plans for both characters and themes, as well as key quotations. Make sure you also revise the social and historical context behind Of Mice and Men, such as the American Dream. This will put you in the best place possible for the exam.

They should be thinking from late January 2016 until March about this issue and should develop an argument about how far America has come in terms of equality over the last 100 years. Exam dates: 18th May (Religion and Life Issues) 23rd May (Religion and Morality)

Exam paper breakdown: Both papers contain six topics, students must only answer four of these (below are the topics studied). Religion and Life Issues - Animal Rights, Planet Earth, Prejudice, Early Life, War and Peace. Religion and Morality - Religion and matters of life, Elderly and death, Crime and punishment & Drug abuse. Both papers are 1 Hour 30 mins, 22.5 minutes per topic!
