Awakening - PreludeIndian ocean, North-Western Australia. Elliot and Mikey, both fisherman. Unnamed victim/refugee and an eyewitness. A fishing boat find a trawler adrift, alone. Mikey and Elliot find 40-50 dead bodies, shot. A survivor scares Mikey and is killed by Elliot. His body is fed to the sharks and is seen by an unidentified person.People are often complicit in crime/negative behaviour, even if they aware of the morals behind it. In contrast, there are those who are amoral and cover up their crimes. Whatever. Lets just make it quick, okay. His voice was little more than a hoarse whisper. It seems to me that one way or the other this old hulk is headed for the Aussies coastline.
Arrival - Chapter 1
Jamie Riley and Eddie Riley, his older brother. Jamie arrives in Port Barren, in north-western Australia, following its name, the climate of Port Barren is red, dusty and hot. Flashback Jamies dreaming is interrupted through his mothers death when he was 4, his fathers alcoholism, and by Eddie being in jail for 5-7 years. His sense of belonging to a family is broken.

Jamie, Sergeant E Butcher, unnamed cop/Steps leading to Archies home. On arrival to Archies home, Jamie is approached by a cop, who immediately chokes Jamie and tells him what to expect in the town, and history of others like him. Flashback brief memories of his mother as he slowly begins to lose breath. For one insane moment, some detached part of Jamies mind dredged up a memory of his mother, of her hands, which were slender like the cops.
Port Barren - Chapter 4
Jamie, Archie, Sergeant Butcher, mentions of LorraineJamie has a flashback of his first week of Port Barren. He then finds himself walking the streets of Port Barren where he gets discovered by Sergeant Butcher who is lighting a cigarette on his verandah Flashback Jamie recalls his past week at Port Barren and compares it to previous foster parents. While previous foster parents tried to change Jamie, Archie doesnt lay any pressure on him to change, but rather lets him do what he wants.
Chapter 5
Chapter 6
Jamie, Cameron/beach leading to shipwreckDuring a late night walk, Jamie strolls down a beach to a shipwreck where he passes out quickly. On his awakening, he meets Cameron, the other senior who helps him up. Foreshadowing tension builds in the moments to him passing out. Flashback memories of being a child at the beach.Metaphor the description of the boat/area as being quiet/dead.It was as if he was being called, drawn by an unseen force.
The memory of white sand and foamy crashing surf was still vivid. The whole boat had a curiously dead feeling about it, as though it hadnt just been abandoned, but rather that it had never been alive.
