Old school “roll and move” games like Monopoly, Cluedo or the Game of Life are being superseded as far more interesting titles such as Catan, Ticket to Ride, Codenames and many others have become increasingly well known. There are stories behind many of the visual images and objects that we see everyday. References to art and its history are all around us. In this course we will look at how popular culture borrows ideas and images from art history. From music videos to fashion and beyond, artists take from and reassemble the works of other artists to create new ideas and meanings.

Do you have something big to say? Are there things in the world that you are not ok with? Maybe you really love your pets or basketball or collecting sugar sachets or have really important life goals to share? Explore your loves and loathes in this ‘amazine’ course! You’ll join a zine community and make your very own limited edition zines to share, trade and donate to a permanent library collection. Zines

can be anything and everything. This course will encourage you to push the limits of your creativity and give you a voice, alongside other zine enthusiasts and will culminate in a mini zine festival

In a collaborative context, we will explore the past, present and future of the city of Christchurch. Using a transdisciplinary approach that will encompass the skills of numeracy, written and spoken communication. Students are empowered to explore and grow skills of initiative, perseverance, group collaboration, indepen-dence and ownership. Fit for Life (10FIT)Physically ActiveIn this course you will train for and participate in an event as a class (e.g. Christ-church Marathon 10KM run). Throughout this process you will develop your

The Freedom Writers’ Society is where you’ll bring your passion, enthusiasm, and love of words to the fore. You’ll explore language as a creative device, experiment

about language and in this course you’ll be immersing yourself in the power of words with like-minded people.

You’ll have opportunities to be inspired both in and out of the classroom (this may involve minimal costs). The aim? Develop your writer’s voice, build a portfolio and get published. Mahi tahi is a term used to describe the unity of people working towards a specif-ic goal or the implementation of a task often in a ‘hands-on’ fashion. Mahi tahi is the act of carrying out the task or activity for which you have come together in a common purpose. Working together is vital for activities such as construction, food production, child rearing and warfare.

This course is designed to incorporate your skills and passion for either onstage or technical performance, whether that be an original song, a short devised theatre piece, a scripted piece of theatre, juggling, tight rope walking, magic, or a dance piece to name a few. The goal is to have a performance night at the end of the process potentially like a cabaret or variety concert.

Through consultation with you we will come up with a piece or pieces to show to an audience, whether we tour it to the local primary and intermediate schools or we perform it at school or a venue elsewhere will be determined by what the

Want to make the world a better place using digital technologies? Learn how to use digital technology to design and create quality media products to promote,

podcasts and articles, to post onto our facebook, screens and instagram, for our school publications and in assemblies. Do you have your own idea for a media product? Make it here. This course works alongside the senior MAD elective and has elements of Media Studies, Digital Technology, Art, Drama and English.

Robot Mission on Mars (10RMM)STEMThis course is based around students working in groups researching, designing, testing, budgeting, programming and building their robots and then putting them into the end of semester robot Mission on Mars.

This unit focuses on using Science and Technology to solve the problems associ-ated with remote control and monitoring delays around remote. This involves the design and construction of a robot to problem solve a given logistics issue the surface of another planet.

If you are a student that is interested in electronics, programming, mechanical construction, comfortable working in small groups and a competitive streak this course is for you. The Mars mission will be the pinnacle of the course with the

Song Creating: What’s Your Groove? (10SON)Create and Make; Digital Media; Perform; WritingSongs are a powerful form of communication. You will learn to appreciate why and how songs are important to our lives. This course is for anyone who enjoys MUSIC but you don’t have to be amazing on an instrument.

In Song Creating we will do the following learning• Listen to and analyse songs from a variety of genres of your choice• Compose songs to suit themes of your choice• Create poetry (lyrics)• Record songs using music technology• Perform a range of songs of your choice to an audience of your choice• Learn about the music industry and how to be successful

Creating songs has many links to other areas of learning such as poetry, languag-es, media studies, social and cultural studies, marketing and advertising, history and philosophy. You will be encouraged to be creative but most importantly this
