Reminders Clubs Clubs for this term will start next week. Children at clubs will need picked up at 3.30pm. Uniform Please ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform for school. The children are allowed to wear clothing under their uniform to keep them warm however these garments must be white or navy with no other patterns or logos showing. PE footwear must be white. Additional Homework Task The children are currently loving the English topic of Fairy Tales. We thought it would be a great idea to merge our English Topic with our Amazing Structures topic. We have already built and eaten gingerbread candy houses inspired by Hansel and Gretel. The home learning task we would like the children to com-plete over the next three weeks is Building a Miniature House suitable for their favourite fairy tale character. This can be any character from a Fairy Tale and it is totally up to each child what they would like to include. For example: Cinderella’s house may have multiple shoe racks! This is due on the Monday 12th February but all creations are welcome whenever they are finished. We are really look-ing forward to all of the structures the children create. They will also be given a chance to present and explain their de-sign to their class and the other Year 1 Classes.

Maths All Year 1 classes have been focussing on Time. We began revising the days of the week and the months of the year. They then began learning about analogue and digital clocks and how we use time to schedule our day and at what time we carry out certain activities. We have covered O'clock and half past the hour.

Task Children are to explore different types of clocks in their house both analogue and digital. They must record what they find and draw them in their HW books.

Spelling and Vocabulary The spelling for the week will be provid-ed by their phonics/spelling teacher and sent home with the children. Please see the second page of this homework letter for the full set of words for each phase. The children should practise using the look/say/cover/write/check tech-nique to help them consolidate their learning and begin to apply it in their writing.

Reading Please read with your child for 10 minutes each day and record this in their home/school book.

Count the clocksThis activity will help your child learn how to tell the time using digital and analogue clocks. At this age we focus on ‘o’clock’ times – 3 o’clock, 12 o’clock, etc. Once children have understood these times, we can move on to half and quarter hours.

What to do...1. Look around your home. How many clocks can you count?

2. Include clocks on the TV, the video, the DVD, alarm clocks, people’s watches.

3. Draw each clock – showing the time it says!
