YEAR 12 VALEDICTORY On Friday 16 th of Nov 110 people gathered at Beaufort Manor in Yea to celebrate the end of 13 years of schooling for the class of 2018. The students have worked hard throughout the last six years and has certainly had some big hurdles to overcome. Amongst this group we have some young individuals who are investigating career pathways in various fields such as equine veterinary, building, police force, medicine, psychology and so much more. Each one of our class of 2018 is capable of undertaking any career path they set their minds to, with hard work, determination, support and a little bit of good luck along the way! The evening commenced with Canapés in the gardens where students were able to have some photos with family and friends. This was followed by our presentations where students were presented with a commemora- tive glass and certificate. Hannah Cooney and Maxwell Westwood spoke very well to give an account of their time at Yea High School. At 11:30pm the last song was played for the packed dance floor! PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Valedictory Dinner A very successful Valedictory Dinner for the class of 2018 was held last week at Beaufort Manor. Gradu-ating students were presented with a certificate and a glass in a formal ceremony. It was wonderful to see our Year 12 students and their families enjoying the evening and celebrating the completion of 13 years of schooling. A special thanks to our Year 12 Coordinator, James Walsh and VCAL Coordinator, Amanda Hard for organising the function, and our school captains, Max and Hannah for their work to en-hance that event. Student Led Conferences Thank you to those families who took the time to engage in the student led conferences. The opportunity for students to discuss and reflect on their learning in these forums contributes to student learning out-comes. Advisory work gives students ownership of part of their learning and provides the opportunity de-velop presentation skills and receive feedback on their work across a number of curriculum areas. Step Up 2019 Students in year 11 have recently completed their examinations and are currently, involved in the ‘Step Up’ program. The transition to Year 11 and Year 12 is important and the work and advice provided by our teachers will set the scene for 2019 Presentation Afternoons Yea HS and AYCE The Yea HS presentation Afternoon is set for Tuesday December 18th - families and students are request-ed to arrive before 1:30pm for a start at 1:30pm in the Yea Town Hall. The AYCE presentation day is Wednesday December 19th with the formal presentations commencing at 2:00pm at the Bayswater venue. Student Leaders 2019 The election process is now underway to elect our school captains for 2019. The newly elected School Captains and School Council representatives will take up their positions for 2019 at the 2018 Presentation Afternoon. The 2018 School Captains, Max Westwood and Hannah Cooney , will formally hand over to the 2019 school captains at our afternoon Presentation Event on Tuesday, December 18th. Reports All year levels will have finalised their assessments by the end of next week. Reports will be available at the conclusion of our afternoon presentation event on Tuesday 18th Decem-ber. Please do not ask for reports before this time as they will not be ready. Sunsmart Hot, sunny weather means that students need to be Sunsmart in the yard. The school’s policy encour-ages students to wear an appropriate hat and wear sunscreen. We would ask for parents to support the school’s policy. Activities Students in Years 7 to 9 received information regarding activities week. The activity program runs from Monday 10th December to Monday 17th December. This information should be read carefully and returned to school as soon as possible to assist planning. Year 7 2019, Orientation Day Orientation day is Tuesday 11th Decem-ber. Grade 6 students commencing Year 7 in 2019 will participate in a number of ac-tivities to support their transition to Yea High School on that day. Booklists Booklists for 2019 will be posted home to families shortly.

Rift. Cal West, an apprentice Ranger with a rare scar and even rarer gifts, fights daily to prove he belongs within

their ranks. After nine years away, Meg Archer returns to her childhood home only to find the Island is facing a

new threat that not even the Rangers are prepared for. Meg and Cal can’t ignore their attraction, but can they

face their darkest fears to save the Island from disaster?

“Thrilling, original and intoxicating. I can’t recommend this enough,” - Isobelle Carmody, author of the Ober-

YEAR 10 MOCK INTERVIEWS

DIVERSITY CREATIVE ARTS COMPETITION Thank you, so much to all students who submitted entries in this competition. There were some FANTASTIC pieces entered, covering a wide assortment of media and formats. Yea High School students have an immense amount of talent to offer and I, for one am hugely proud of their efforts!

The theme for the competition was diversity, which is a word we should all strive to understand. The term diversity refers to the huge variety of differences in all of us, including our ethnic or social background, sexual orientation, reli-gious beliefs, gender identification, physical abilities etc. Celebrating that diversity shows all of our students that they are valued and worthy. In the words of the late, great Stan Lee, “sooner or later, if man is ever to be worthy of his destiny, we must fill our hearts with tolerance.”

Judging of the competition took place on Tuesday November 13th.

We are very pleased to announce the major prize winner is Mary-Lee Stevens, pictured here, who receives a $50 voucher. Certificates have been awarded to all entrants for their efforts in a range of categories. As well as the major prize and certificates we decided to open the judging up to students and staff for a 'people's choice' award. The win-ner of the people’s choice award was Hannah Creed who received a graphite pencil sketch kit.

The artworks have been submitted as entries in the Yea Show, which is to be held this weekend at the Recreation Reserve. Please, if you are vis-iting the show, remember to drop in to the pavil-ion and check out some of the great talent from Yea High School students.
