If you want to distinguish Polish people from a crowd, we have a couple of clues that you can use. Before, we knew about them only

facts one can check on the internet, but now we think we spotted some things only an up close glance can provide.

First, the Polish are very proud about their identity and all things Polish. It comes from some sort of an inner romantism and genuine concern to make a good impression. Have you noticed how special Polish people are? They’d ask. Yes, we have!

We could of course summarize the way Polish people are in a cou-ple of words and those words would probably be drinking vodka, having fun, dancing on Chopin music and saying a lot of nazdrowe and dobje. We could also add that they are very active, creative and like their food in big portions, their vacations in Croatia, Egypt and Turkey and their vodka preferably Zubrowka. Doing things in a traditional way is very important for the Polish, be it celebrating a birthday, wedding or simply drinking for making-friends purposes. Have you seen their special ritual of opening vodka bottles? It’s a must, for at least once in your life. Did you know that when some-one turns eighteen one usually receives instead of a gift and a kiss a good belt-slap on his butt from all the guests? Surprised? We were too. Did you know they like their vodka so much that even at wed-dings when the bride gets stolen the groom can ransom her not for money, but for vodka bottles?

Seriously. Hang out with the Polish, they’ll gladly tell you more while sipping liquids of preferably 40 degrees and up. But be prepared and have a coat on, because these guys simply don’t care about the

moldova about Poland

cold. Actually, swimming in polar cold waters could easily pass as their national sport. About sports: with a smile on their face they’ll tell you they suck at football, although they like to play it and watch others play. There are very few things Polish people can’t do, sim-ply because “challenge accepted” is their second name. If you want a Polish person to do something, just tell them they can’t. They’ll prove you otherwise on the spot. Intriguing enough? Dare to learn more. Because we plan too.

Yesterday I turned on my computer and started playing World of Warcraft as usual. There have already been many people there

but I haven’t recognized them. I started to chat with them and it oc-curred that they’re from Moldova.

I remembered the name from history lessons but I wasn’t sure what was the context. We talked a bit longer and it occurred that they are sitting in a wine cellar in Chisinau. I was really confused because you usually do not get a very good connection underground but they explained that their internet is the 3rd fastest in the world. I was pretty impressed as in Poland we always get so many lags. I wanted them to teach me some Moldavian words but they told me that there is no such language and they all speak Romanian, even though their National anthem is called Limba Noastra (our language). Most of them even have Romanian citizenship.

Suddenly he wrote “BRB Wine@KeyBoard LOL”. Then he explained it was Cricova, the same one that Angela Merkel received, together with 399 other bottles when she visited Moldova this year. It wasn’t so surprising as I have seen Putin’s pictures from his birthday’s party on Facebook. He organized them in Chisinau in the biggest wine cellars in the world: 240 kilometers and 2 million bottles – that’s something! Nice place for a party! I will book it for our next clan meeting. We could play Moldavian music like Ozone. I still remem-ber wild LAN parties with “Dragostea din tei” played full volume simultaneously on YouTube.

I shared my idea with the Moldavian guys. They really liked it and promised to bring some Mamaliga and Placinte. I asked them what

Poland about moldova

kind of alcohol is that and they explained that this is their traditional cuisine. I was curious how are the girls in Moldova and they have sent me a video with beautiful girls in traditional outfits dancing a typical dance: Hora.

We finished the quest “Conquest of Russia” together and chatted a bit more. I wanted to ask for their e-mail addresses but my internet connection went down. I really hope we’ll meet again…

At the very begging of the youth exchange we didn’t know too much about Bulgaria, except for some common stereotypes

about the country and its people, particularly, that Bulgarians shake their heads when they say “yes” and nod when they want to say “no,” which is the opposite of what is usually done.

As the youth exchange progressed we got an opportunity to get to know each other better, talk to Bulgarian participants and find some similarities and differences between our countries and people. The Bulgarian cultural night was a great way to learn more about Bul-garia and its people. During the cultural night we learned that.

A rose is a traditional flower in Bulgaria. Bulgarians even have a rose festival which takes place early March each year and lasts for about a week. There is a region called Rose valley and a town called Ka-zanlik where the main celebrations of rose festival take place. Major activities include a beauty contest in which a “queen of the rose” is selected. The most traditional food in Bulgaria is a summer soup called taratur - which is made of ayran (yogurt), cucumber , onions, herbs, and walnuts. Lutsenitsa that we tasted during cultural night is very Bulgarian. According to bulgarians, there is nothing similar to it anywhere else in the world.

Differences:

The main difference is religion. The major religion in Bulgaria is Christianity, and the predominant religion of Azerbaijan is Islam. But regardless of this, we have many similarities.

azerbaijan about Bulgaria

similarities:Due to fact that we are not that far from each other, there are many similarities in our traditions. For example, the moves in our dances are quite similar just like the way the music sounds.

We have many common beliefs, for example, the one about sitting in the corner of the table. In both Azerbaijan and Bulgaria people believe that if someone sits at the corner of the table, this person will not get married (or at least his/her marriage will be delayed for some time).

In both countries we have some common words of Turkish origin. Some examples include: “komshu” is a “neighbor” in Bulgarian. In Azerbaijani, it’s “qonshu.” The word “borc” is the same in Azerbaijani for “debt.” Baklava is very popular in both countries: even the way baklava is made is similar...

Sveiki! The article I am writing for is about…. Guess? It’s about Latvia. Latvija (as is called by local people) is a Baltic Republic.

Their flag is red & white , but we shouldn’t mix it with Austrian flag. Latvian flag had unequal horizontal bands and it has maroon color, not like tomato color of Austrian flag. As far as similarities with Albania: Latvia has a population around ours. It is a parliamentary republic Has red color in flag They have 4 seasons (It’s so familiar to us)

albania about Latvia

6

About cultural events, every 4 year is organized a festival, in which sing more than 50 000 Latvians. Traditional sport are Basketball, Ice-Hokey, Hunting. As my Latvians friends told me, Latvia has wonderful skies.

Unfortunately, Latvia doesn’t have mountains. They do have beaches, beautiful one’s (so it’s a Most see in the future). Lakes, lakes, lakes sur-round Latvia. In winter it’s too cold, cold, cold. 1/3 of it’s surface is for-est. Maybe that’s the reason why they pick mushrooms at the woods as a sport. A traditional thing is enjoying sauna and a cold beer after having jumped into the snow. Now more things about Latvians….They adore eating potatoes, pork. They drink beer, vodka and balsam. Also, they love everything related with Alcohol. They love parties. Well, who doesn’t?! They are funny people, friendly, easy-going and a little bit crazy, too. They’re great jumpers. They jump from the bridges into the water, from the balconies too. So insane & dangerous, but funny & true! They are nice photographers.

...

WARNING: Another important thing! Andris, Elina, Inese, Jurgis, Oskars, Viktors You are all welcomed in Albania! You can find lovely places to visit in Albania, a lot of mountains too. Hope to hear or see you again in other trainings. P.S. Thank you European Commission, Youth in Action for this lovely trip to our neighbor country Macedonia. A youth exchange we will cherish forever! HanGman

This simple game has you attempting to guess words by guessing letters. A series of blank dashes represents each letter in the word. For each letter you guess right, fill in that letter in the blanks. Get-ting one wrong will add body parts to the hangman, starting with his head. Add a torso, arms, legs, hands and feet. Solve the puzzle before hanging the hangman.

tUrKeY’s FiGHt

Separate the people in couples. One person should demonstrate the game. People need to hold their hands crossed on their back and stand in one foot. They should fight against each other with their shoulders. Once that a player puts his foot on the ground or fall down, he/she is out of game. The winners will fight again bet-ween each-others until we get only one winner.

sHootinG BaLLs

All players must be divided in 2 teams. We must put the limits of the playground and then separated the field in the middle.

The goalkeepers are out of the field. The teams stay in field like this formation A-B-A-B. They have to catch the ball and to shoot the members of the other team. The team A need to hit some player from the team B or try to pass the ball to the goalkeeper. If the ball touches the player of the other team and fall in the ground they (one or more) are burned – they are out of the game. The players who catch the ball can continue to play and they try to get someone from the other team. The game is over at the moment when there is no player left in one of the teams.

sHoe in a BoX

This activity can be used as team building activity and provide the participants an opportunity to get to know more about each other.

All the participants stand in the circle. The game starts with collec-ting one shoe from every participant in a big box. After that, par-ticipants are closing their eyes and choose one shoe from the box (mandatory, the shoe must belong to someone else). Once with a shoe in their hand, participants need to find the owner of that shoe, and find out 3 interesting facts about him/her. The game ends with the introduction of all participants and the interesting facts about them.

7 PeoPLe BUiLD a HoUse

The game is based on the reaction and swiftness of par-ticipants. The most attentive one wins the game. Parti-cipants gather in a circle and need to place their palms in a specific way: their right palm should be placed in the front of their neighbor’s left palm, and respectively, their left palm should be in the back of the palm of another neighbor. The action of the game consists of slapping the right hand of the neighbor from left, with the right hand, and so on. While slapping the palms, participants repeat the following (one word-one partii-cpant) :

seven - people - build - a house - how - many - bricks - do - they - need?

After that, the next participant should choose a num-ber from 5 to 50, which will mean the number of the bricks needed. So, they start counting the bricks (also by slapping palms). The idea is that the participant that is supposed to receive the number of the last brick, should remove his/her right palm, in order to not get slapped. If he fails to do so, he is out of the game. The game continues until one participant wins the game.

DesmaL atDi - DroP tHe scarF/HanDKercHieF

materials: scarf/handkerchief - or something small that could be hidden in one’s hands and be dropped without making any noise (a small ball will not work as it will roll).

number of players: 10+

Games

Description and rules: Players sit on their knees in a circle. There should be some space (not too much) between the players. One leader is selec-ted - he has the scarf in his/her hands and goes around the circle with it. While going around the circle, the leaders has to drop the scarf behind one of the participants without that person noticing it. Other players are not allowed to tell the person that the scarf has been dropped be-hind him/her. The players sitting in the circle have to be very attentive and “feel” if the scarf was dropped behind one of them. After the leader dropped the scarf, he/she continues to move around the circle.

The person who has the scarf behind him/her has to notice it. If he/she does so until the leader reaches him/her, he/she needs to pick the scarf up and run after the leader. The leader also starts running and tries to take the spot of the person he dropped the scarf behind of. If the leader reaches the spot earlier than the participant from the circle then that person becomes a leader and has to drop the scarf behind some other player.

If the person doesn’t notice/realize that he/she has the scarf behind him/her and the leader approaches him after making a full round of the cir-cle, then that person had to be “punished” - he/she will have to do so-mething - whatever the players ask: sing a song, dance, recite a poem or do something funny.

FisHerman

Everybody is a fish in this game (except the Fishermen). Their task is to travel from one point in the lake to another (to run from one side of the room to other). It’s good that borders are strictly set, so fishes don’t “climb” out of water. And there is one fisherman (volun-teer) in the middle of the fish route. His task is to catch a fish, while fishes are passing by (he can move, run - but must keep remain in his designated area). When the fisherman catches the fish they hold hands - and fish becomes the part of the net. Game ends when the last fish is caught (or You can set your own limits).

„BereK” (taG)

size of the group: min. 10, for bigger groups you might need many “bereks”

est. time: 10-15 mins

A group of players decide who is going to be “be-rek”, The player selected to be “berek” then chases the others, attempting to get close enough to touch them while the others try to run away without being touched. When the person is touched, he/she has to stand still with the legs spread. In order to “unfreeze” someone, another player has to crawl under his legs. Persons that were chosen as “bereks” win when they freeze everyone. There are many variants which mo-dify the rules for team play, or place restrictions on tagged players’ behaviour. A simple variation makes it an elimination game, so those tagged drop out of play.

But the driver was also a magician and he quickly healed horse leg. But during the healing, King who was a bit impatient asked the driver again: “ Driver, my loyal driver, are the horses are OK?” “Yes my king, horses are OK, we can continue the trip in our comfortable carriage” “ At last” – a little bit nervous queen, said.

For this game you need some music. Everyone stands in a circle holding each others hands. Two volunteers needed. One of them stands inside the circle and other one outside the circle. They both holds each others hands above the heads of people in the circle making a trap. When the music starts, all the people in the circle/pancake starts to move to the left through the trap. (You can make 2 traps if there is more than ~20 players, so the game is more dy-namic)

When the music stops, the trap closes (hands are lovered) and the people inside the trap becomes a part of it that way making it bi-gger.

An easy and entertaining game to play; it’s simple and doesn’t requi-re many materials or directions. You would want to play this game because it’s not about who wins or who loses. It’s about having a good time and enjoying yourself!

There are Two or more players (the game is better with a group of players). Choose one player to be the blind chicken. You can de-cide this amongst the group of players. Put over the chosen blind chicken’s eyes the bandana folded so that they can’t see anything. Spin the blind chicken around in a few circles so that they could get dizzy. Run. All the players need to get away from the blind chicken so that they won’t get touched by the chicken. Make noise. The pla-yers need to make sure to make some noise. Keep in mind that the blind chicken can’t see anything. Whoever gets tagged or touched by the blind chicken is the next blind chicken. Repeat the same pro-cess with all the new blind chickens

Players stand in a circle, very close to each other (not holding hands – hands to sides, so there is no space between them). One player is outside the circle – this player goes around the circle and suddenly taps a player in the circle on the shoulder. The person who got tap-ped needs to leave the circle and run in the direction opposite to that the person he got tapped by is running in. When the tapped player leaves the circle, an empty spot forms which these two pla-yers try to fill in. While running outside the circle, these two players meet – when they meet, they shake hands say “hi” and after that each of them tries to stand in the empty spot before the other pla-yer does. Whoever is left outside of the circle starts walking around and then taps someone from the circle and the game continues.

HUman Knot

The human knot is a game that can also be used as a team-building initiative. Have your group clump together, shoulder to shoulder. (for example, everybody has right to put their hands in front of them either crossed or straight (paralel) way). Reaching toward each other with both hands (and with closed eyes), instruct the group to join hands with two different people so that there is a criss-crossed net-work of arms and hands forming a tangled web.

The goal for the group is to untangle themselves and form a perfect circle (or circles) while holding hands. The duration of this activity can last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, depending upon the com-plexity of entanglement and the group’s ability to cooperate with each other.

„KUcie”

size of the group: min. 10 - 20

est. time: 10-15 mins

On a playing field, mark the positions of two teams by placing two stones on the ground (one for each team). There should be 5-10 meters space between the stones, depending on the ball you use (how far can it be thrown). One player from each team puts his/her right foot on the stone and from now on is a thrower and cannot take the foot from the ground (he can move the other foot, duck, and so on). His/her task is to hit the other team’s thrower with a ball. Throwers try to hit each other one after the other, while the rest of the team stands behind them and helps with catching and passing the ball. When a thrower is hit, he is out and another person from the team takes his place. The team which eliminates all of the pla-yers of the other team wins.

For example, in our case, there are 8 countries: Albania, Azerbaijan,Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia,Macedonia, Moldova, and Poland. So, there will be 8 different tasks, particularly, each national team will have to gather (interview representatives of other teams, ask each other) the following infor-mation about all 8 countries (including their own country):

1. Three main words/expressions in each of the languages (for example, “Hello. My name is ... I am from ....” and “thank you”2. Three facts about music (both folk and popular, also information about dances can be added)3. Three to five places to be visited in each country - must see sightseeing places4. Facts about landscape and climate (what is the weather like mostly, seasons, mountains, rivers, etc.)5. Traditional food and drinks that must be tried/tasted6. Most important holidays/celebrations7. Facts about sports and leisure8. Facts about the youth in each country (lifestyle, favorite things to do, etc.)

The categories could be either assigned to a certain team or writ-ten on pieces of paper and put into a bowl to be selected by team representatives.

Teams have 20-40 min to complete the task.

The final product of the game is a colorful poster with information about a certain category. Each team makes a presentation to the group after completing the task.

FavoUrite movie

size of the group: any

est. time: 5-10 mins (depending on group size)

Everyone seats or stands in the circle. The leader then asks everyone to name his/her favourite movie (preferably in English if the group is international). After everyone has done that the leader asks the group to repeat the names, adding a phrase “In my pants I have…”

GUess tHe Person (Pantomime)

Everyone stands in a circle. Each person writes his/her name on a sticky note and folds it. All sticky notes with the names are put into a bowl or simply on the ground (if the game is played outside and there is nothing to put the folded papers into).

One volunteer is selected from the circle. He draws one sticky note with a name and without reading/looking at what the name is sticks it on his/her back. Then he/she shows the name to the participants standing in the circle - they need to know the name as they have to describe the person to him/her without any words, using pantomi-me. The person who tries to guess the name points out to certain individuals in the circle (at least three) who will try to explain whose name is written on his/her back. Or the participants in the circle can raise their hands and describe the person to the one in the circle.

The pantomime continues until the person in the circle finds whose name he/she has on their back. He/she must try to guess the name with minimum explanation. If he/she finds the person whose name he/she has on the back, that person goes into the circle, draws the name and guesses the person.

materials: sticky notes, markers/pencils, bowl or a plastic bag to put the papers with the names into.
