Mind Maps– Let’s get started Objectives: Understand what is meant by the term ‘mind map’ Know where we use mind maps Create a mind map for a specific situation to meet a client brief. Practice Task 1: Record your top 5 favourite things (can be food, colours, music etc.)and your top 5 most hated things. Look at how you organised your information: Did you have headings? Did you use just words or add images? Did you separate the different sections? What was your title? A mind map is used to show and develop ideas and thoughts. Usually one thought will trigger another and the whole process can be recorded as ideas flow. A mind map allows for different routes or options. It can de designed and used to show what resources will or may be needed. A mind map can be used with the client brief to address the brief, using branches and sub-branches. The Creation Process1. Start in the CENTRE of a blank page turned

sideways. 2. Use an IMAGE or PICTURE for your central idea. 3. Use COLOURS throughout. 4. CONNECT your MAIN BRANCHES to the central

image and connect your second- and third-level branches to the first and second levels, etc.

5. Make your branches CURVED rather than straight-lined.

6. Use ONE KEY WORD PER LINE. 7. Use IMAGES throughout.

• Create a mind map for ONE of the following client briefs:

BRIEF 1: A new interior design company is considering developing a new range of bedroom furniture for girls with a theme of ‘love.’

BRIEF 2: An outward bounds company is planning to develop a new set of adverts which convey the theme of ‘adventure.’

BRIEF 3: A local nursery are planning a new poster to advertise the business with the theme of ‘fun and learning’
