DESCRIPTION:Xuper 2109 is an extruded electrode formulated to weldaluminum alloys containing magnesium. This easy to han-dle electrode runs smoothly and leaves little or no splatter.Deposits are porous-free with a uniform profile. Xuper2109 is particularly useful when welding 5xxx and 6xxxaluminum alloys either in the flat position or out-of-posi-tion.

WELDING PROCEDURE & TECHNIQUE:

PPrreeppaarraattiioonn:: Clean weld area to remove contaminants andsurface oxides. Parts thicker than 1/8"(3.2mm) should bebeveled to have an included angle of 60-75°. Preheat heavysections or sections thicker than 1/4"(6.4mm) within a 400-500°F (approx. 204°-260°C) range.

NOTE: Preheating reduces the need to use high amperagelevels.

TTeecchhnniiqquuee:: Start arc either by lightly drawing the electrodeacross the work piece or use a copper starting block. Tohelp control the arc response, it is important to maintain avery short stand-off distance and to keep the electrodealmost perpendicular. Back-whip craters and allow to coolbefore de-slagging.

PPoosstt--WWeellddiinngg:: Slag removal is very important. It canbecome corrosive if not removed. Scrub part in hot, soapywater then rinse.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:• Tank and Container Repair• Structural Frame Repair• Truck Floor Bodies• Aluminum Castings (Grades containing magnesium)

HEALTH AND SAFETY:

Observe normal welding practices, respiratory protectionand proper air flow pattern advised. For general weldingpractices, see AWS publications Z49.1 “Safety in Weldingand Cutting and Allied Process”. Welding is a completelysafe process when performed in accordance with propersafety measures. Become familiar with local safety regula-tions before beginning welding operations. DO NOT oper-ate welding equipment or use welding materials beforeyou have thoroughly read the proper instruction manu-al(s).

Please refer to the Eutectic internet site for Material SafetyData Sheet (MSDS) information.
