The modern music fans, Kailash Kher, Mohit Chauhan, Shankar Mahadevan, Louis Banks and Shivamani will at the Qutub complex. Theatre buffs could enjoy a theatre festival at the National School of Drama (Jashn-e-bacchpan) and at the Ansari auditorium in the Jamia Millia Islamia in Jamia Nagar (Jashn-e-dilli). Musicals will be held at the Sangeet Natak Academy and Shri Ram centre. For the lovers of ghazals and qawwallis, maestros like Jagdish Singh, Nida Fazli and Radhika Chopra will perform at the Town Hall in Chandni Chowk. A youth festival will be held with performances from amateur rock bands from colleges and schools in the evenings at the Central Park along with laser shows and fireworks. In the daytime, kite flying and giant puppets from Dadi Padamjee will dot the Central Park. A film festival will start from October 4 at the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) in Dwarka, where films from India and the Commonwealth nations will be showcased. Tourists and other visitors can also indulge in hands-on experiences like pottery, Madhubani painting and regional martial arts. At the Indira Gandhi National Centre, a photo-exhibition in association with INTACH will also start from October 4. A series of culinary festivals will be held during the Games period. At Dilli Haat in INA, a festival, the “Best of India”, showcasing handicraft, handloom and cuisine has already started. Each day is a State Day with food from that state being showcased. Along the Baba Kharag Singh Marg, the Delhi government in association with the Ministry for Tourism is hosting the Incredible India festival, where food and handicrafts are displayed. High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha met with the officials of the Sports Ministry of Sri Lanka, the office- bearers of the Sporting Federations and the Sports persons before the departure of the Sri Lankan contingent to the XIX Commonwealth Games and wished the contingent a memorable participation in the Games. During the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi, a Cultural extravaganza “Delhi Celebrates” will bring singers, musicians, theatre personalities, well known chefs, artisans, poets and litterateurs to Delhi. “Delhi Celebrates” also includes an International Festival being held at Dilli Haat, Pitampura showcasing culture of different countries through performances by the visiting troupes. At the invitation of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the Chitrasena Dance Company of Sri Lanka will be participating in the “International Cultural Festival”. The troupe would be travelling to New Delhi on 7th October, present performances on 8th & 9th October at Dilli Haat, Pitampura and will return to Sri Lanka on 11th October. The Chitrasena Dance Company is Sri Lanka’s oldest and most prestigious dance company and was established in the 1940s by Guru Chitrasena, who was instrumental in bringing Sri Lanka’s traditional dances from the village rituals to the modern stage. The Dance Company became his vehicle of expression both in traditional dance forms and contemporary dance, which set the standards and transformed dance theatre in Sri Lanka. Today, his dance school and Company led by daughter Upeka have nurtured his legacy with deep love and respect. Reputed for being the pioneers and revolutionists in the dance sphere in Sri Lanka – they continue to experiment without compromise and use traditional dance language and form to create cutting-edge contemporary dance theatre. High Commissioner of India Ashok K Kantha and Deputy High Commissioner Vikram Misri will interact with the troupe members before their departure to New Delhi. The performances by the Sri Lankan troupe will further cement the people-to-people contacts between our two countries. The arrangements for the successful completion of the Commonwealth Games are in place and the sports persons have started arriving in Delhi to participate in the Games. The sporting venues for the Commonwealth Games are ready and the hosting of Games has provided Delhi the opportunity to have world class sports facilities and the infrastructure development putting Delhi at par with the best capitals in the World. These projects included the new Terminal-3 International Airport and the massive metro network connecting Delhi to sub-urbs and centre of Delhi with the Airport. Government of India has taken sufficient measures to provide fool- proof security to the participants at the Commonwealth Games and for the visitors to the Games. As the wait is about to end for the prospective medal winners, who through their performances will bring laurels to their respective countries, Delhi is also set to provide the visitors with a glimpse of the cultures of different States of India, the vast diversity of dance and music in India and the culinary delights of the different regions of India. Theatre buffs could enjoy a theatre festival at the National School of Drama (Jashn-e-bacchpan) and at the Ansari auditorium in the Jamia Millia Islamia in Jamia Nagar (Jashn-e-dilli). Musicals will be held at the Sangeet Natak Academy and Shri Ram centre.
