1
The mission of Wyndmere Public School is to create an environment where students and staff are
safe, respectful, and responsible. The staff is committed to ensure all students are proficient and will graduate with the necessary skills to thrive as
21st century learners, workers and citizens.
WYNDMERE SCHOOL NEWS
From the SuperintendentIt has been an enjoyable and successful year so far not only academically but also in our athletics and co-curricular activities. As we head into spring our schedule for Wyndmere Public Schools continues to be very busy. We have a variety of events taking place from concerts, competitions, prom grand march, and others. I encourage you, if you are able to, attend as many of these activities as possible. We have a talented group here and I encourage you to support them if at all possible.
We will be starting our annual state standardized testing soon. It is great to see students who come to school ready, rested, and prepared for these tests. It all starts at home and it is one of the reasons we have performed so well on these tests in the past.
As part of our partnership with the Southeast Career and Technical Center in Wahpeton, we will be holding our April 9th school board meeting at the Center located at 2101 9th St N, Wahpeton, ND 58075. The school board will be touring the facility ahead of our business meeting that starts at our regular time of 7:00 PM.
We continue to compile a list of updates and repairs for our buildings and grounds. If you have an opinion, or see an issue with our buildings and grounds, please contact Janet Bell, John Manstrom, or myself so we can add it to our list for discussion as summer draws near.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me during school hours.
Dan Dalchow ~ Superintendent

Activities Director Report The boys’ basketball team ended the season with an exceptional post-season run. The team won the region 1 championship by defeating Oak Grove. This marked the first time that a Wyndmere team has qualified for a state basketball tournament since 1971. Luke Foertsch and Wyatt Harles were selected to the All-Region team and Todd Hosford was chosen as the Region Coach of the Year. The boys went on to place 7th in the state tournament and ended their season with a win against Stanley. Luke Foertsch was named to the State Tournament Team. We would also like to thank everyone that showed their support for the Warbirds during this historic run.
The Region 1 music competition will held on April 4 and the Region 1 speech competition will be held on April 6.

Elementary Endeavors
We have officially reached Spring (even though it was snowing)! The weather is warming up, snow is melting, and there is a new feeling of energy in the halls of the elementary school. We are able to start having more recess outside, but with the variables in weather it is important to continue sending your students to school with gloves, hats, and possibly snow pants. Right now we have been in a period of "Pavement Only" recess due to the wet weather. Hopefully we will get back on the grass sooner rather than later.
State testing will begin on Thursday, April 5th for the elementary. 3rd - 6th grade will be tested and a schedule will be sent home to you as soon as it is finalized. Again, I remind everyone to focus on getting plenty of sleep and eating breakfast during this time. We want to put our students in the best possible situation to succeed!
The 5th graders have been participating in the “CounterAct" program. This program is sponsored and taught by the Richland County Sheriff 's Department. The program has been in Wyndmere for several years and the main theme is to teach the students facts about drugs and alcohol that will hopefully help them make strong choices in the coming years. The end of the program assembly was held on Tuesday, March 27th at 7:00PM in the cafeteria.
Other events to keep your eyes on in the coming weeks are the spring concert (April 24th) and Battle of the Books (April 25th). I am excited to attend these events for the first time as an administrator. We have such a talented group of students in our town and it is always a pleasure to see them shine.
I had the opportunity to hang out with our students as the basketball team played in Bismarck. It was so much fun seeing the energy, pride, and sportsmanship the students showed both at the tournament, and in the classrooms! As always, I am very impressed with our kids!
As the 4th quarter continues, and the weather improves, it is not uncommon to see some students lose their focus a bit. We will continue to finish the year strong and believe the students will as well. Your assistance in this is key. Thank you for your continued support as we finish out the year!
Mikal Kern - Elementary Principal
Title 1 News
As we close out reading month, I want to thank parents and family at home encouraging kids to read. Reading is a great way to learn! The students had a great time dressing up and taking pictures with their friends. We are still taking pictures with characters as we go into April. Hopefully we can continue to do fun activities to make reading enjoyable for all of the students.
April is here and that means state testing for 3rd-6th graders. This year testing will all be online. We are encouraging students to sleep well, have a healthy breakfast, and have confidence in themselves.
Reminder that there are now audio books to check out for a week at a time from the Title 1 room! Listening to stories is a great way to get kids excited to read!
Kelly Kohoutek - Title 1 Coordinator

Counselor’s Corner SOS Clothing Drive Parents and students: Check out msorgaard.weebly.com or scan the QR code below for the latest scholarships in our area, ACT test information, and student opportunities. The website is the best place to start when you have questions, I work hard to keep information up to date and available for students in the district.
What to do in April? In this month, students may be able to register for an or ientat ion day, housing and meals, and start to look at classes they may want to take. Be sure to work on those local scholarships, we have a generous community that wants to support students with goals.
Summer Opportunities! Many summer experiences available to middle and high school students have begun the application process. Governor’s school, Boys/Girls State, North Dakota Leadership Seminar, RYLA camp and many others are looking for interested students to participate. More information and various opportunities can be found on my website and on school bulletin boards.
North Dakota Academic and CTE Scholarship:I have talked to all students who qualify for this scho la r sh ip a t th i s po int . If a student needs help completing the online portion or the WorkKeys test that is due by June 1, 2018, feel free to stop by my office and I can walk you through the application. Specific links to the application and information related to it can be found on my website under the “Scholarships” tab.
Alison Orgaard - High School Counselor
To celebrate Generosity during the month of February, the Wyndmere Sources of Strength put on a clothing drive to bring in clothing for the Fargo YWCA. The group surpassed its original goal of 800 pounds, collecting 2223 pounds of clothes for the women’s shelter. As an incentive for students to donate, several teachers agreed to participate in various activities as increasing amounts of clothes were brought in. Thanks to Ms. Zaun for allowing the students to duct-tape her to a wall, Mrs. Hosford for performing a gymnastics routine for the students, Mrs. Fyre for wearing a crazy hairstyle, Mrs. Glynn for allowing the students to pick out her clothes for a day, Mr. Jezusko for waxing his legs, Mr. Carlson for cutting his hair, and Mr. Strenge for dying his hair. Congratulations to the 11th grade for bringing in the most clothes overall (560 pounds) and the 5th grade for bringing in the most clothes in the elementary (340 pounds).
