• Awarded 250 Additional Student Numbers (ASNs) for 2009/10 (50 funded; 200 ‘fees
only’ STEM).
• 2010/11 ASNs: 75 for Performance Hub approved; bid for 100 in Healthcare Science
(with Aston).

Repositioning Exercise – update
• Extended VR application deadline to 6th Nov
• To date we have received over 250 requests for estimates and over 144 have applied so far
• At the end of November we will review the salary savings from the VR requests, set this against other pay and non-pay savings, and take stock.

HESES Audit – Requirement• Every student to confirm study intention at start of
academic year.
- This should normally (for FT) be 120 credits
- Students must then: • Complete all registered modules • Submit any mitigating circumstances before submission deadline • Submit all final assessments for intended
study
- Failure to submit even one final assessment = HEFCE non completion for student

HESES Audit – Actions taken• Introduction of online (e-vision) module diets – manages
study intention requirement.
• Non-submission of assignments must be actively followed up – monitored by bar-coding submissions
• Regulations changes
- resits within year- changed rules for extenuating circumstances- tightened control of student eligible period of study
• Where appropriate students will be withdrawn or switched to part-time – following communication with student by Student Office explaining implications

• Special mailing to local schools and colleges
• Online Vod casts
• New courses in UCAS and on our website
• Using Twitter and Facebook to raise profile
• Regional Advertising & online marketing
• Much curriculum design work still to be done

Progress: NSS 2009• Our overall satisfaction has gone up to 78%
(in 2006 it was 72%). Sector is at 81%• Our response rate was 57% (last year it was
64%), the sector is 62%• Assessment and feedback has improved and
is above sector average. 66% (up from 62%) sector average (65%)
• Learning resources is steady at 84% and is above sector average (80%)

Some Successes
• Graduation went extremely well and the Honorary Graduates were a great success
• Leading on £5.2m SPEED West Midlands programme
• KTP Award of £24m to run the regional programme. UoW is 1st in the region and 2nd nationally for KTPs
• Nalini Patel now shortlisted for the national British Computer Society IT award
• Students nominated for Royal TV Society Awards
• WLV Dialogue: finalist in CIPR Best Magazine category
