Good Habits for AT Use

• Care and use of device(s)• Identifying your resources• Vendor or device specific• Environmentally or task specific• Practice trouble shooting and problem solving

constantly• Identify back up plans

• Target specific areas from your QIAT-PS self-assessment that need improvement. (specifically self-awareness, self-advocacy, evaluation and problem solving)

Teaching Good Habits for AT Use• Take a careful and thoughtful look at your AT policy

and practices in the K-12 setting. Building local AT capacity will provide resources for better outcomes in the higher education setting.

Discussion Forum - Bryan

Imposed collaboration does not work well in the adult world. How can this concept be taught to teens or young adult AT users?

Well, this was probably worded poorly but what we are really asking here is how can effective collaboration be taught. We know that we don’t always get to collaborate with like-minded people so we have to learn some pretty sophisticated interaction skills!

Factors influencing collaboration

Teacher's shouldn't expect their students to work together effectively without explicitly teaching and modeling collaboration skills. These skills include:• Active listening• Respect• Manners• Positive Attitude - be uplifting to team members• Focused• Social Awarenesshttp://learninginhand.com/collaboration/

Problem Solving Process—Fertile Ground to Practice Collaboration• Define the Problem• Analyze the Problem• AT Device/System Assessment• Set Goals• Plan and Implement Interventions• Evaluate • Action Plan to Address Evaluation Goals

That’s right! Collaboration is an on-going process
