Finished Size 68" circumference and 101/2" wide.Yarn Brooklyn Tweed Quarry (100% American wool; 200 yd [183 m]/31/2 oz [100 g]): moonstone (A) and hematite (B), 2 skeins each.Needles Size 10 (6 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.Notions Size J/10 (6 mm) crochet hook; stitch holder; waste yarn for provisional CO; tapestry needle.Gauge 14 sts and 32 rows = 4" in charted patt.

• This cowl is worked back and forth in rows, then the ends are grafted together in pattern.

COWLWith A, and using the crochet chain provisional method, CO 37 sts, leaving a 6" tail. *Work Rows 1–8 of Chart A 7 times, then work Rows 1–4 of chart once more. [With A, knit 2 rows, with B, knit 2 rows] 2 times. Work Rows 1–8 of Chart B 7 times, then work Rows 1–4 of chart once more.** [With B, knit 2 rows, with A, knit 2 rows] 2 times. Rep from * 2 more times, then work from * to ** once more. With B, knit 2 rows. With A, knit 2 rows. With B, knit 2 rows. Break B. Break A, leaving a 45" tail for grafting.

FINISHINGWeave in ends, except CO and grafting tails. Remove waste yarn from provisional CO and place 37 sts onto 2nd needle, then create an extra st on same needle as foll: with CO tail threaded on a tapestry needle, wrap

tail over needle from WS to RS and then through an edge st to WS of work—38 sts. Hold needles parallel with WS tog and 38 CO sts in back, making sure cowl isn’t twisted and both needle points face to the right. Thread grafting yarn onto a tapestry needle and graft sts as foll:Step 1 Insert tapestry needle pwise into st on front needle, leave st on needle.Step 2 Insert tapestry needle kwise into st on back needle, remove st from needle.

Step 3 Insert tapestry needle pwise into next st on back needle, leave st on needle.Step 4 Insert tapestry needle kwise into st on front needle, remove st from needle.Rep Steps 1–4 to end, removing st from needle on Step 3 of last rep. Weave in ends. Block to measurements.
