If it’s quirky you’re craving, the underground world of The Vaults presents a new immersive dining experience ‘Dinner is Coming’ - a parody of hit show Game of Thrones that mixes food, theatre and comedy (until 14 July). If music and dance is your thing, Idris Elba and Kwame Kwei-Armah’s ‘Tree’ – following one man’s journey into the heart and soul of contemporary South Africa opens at The Young Vic 29 July until late August. Fans of classical music should check out impressive Victorian performance space 1901 Arts Club’s ‘Chopin & Champagne by Candlelight’ series finale on 12 July.

FOOD-LOVERS Waterloo offers a truly cosmopolitan blend of dining experiences. Start your day with freshly-baked goods from Konditor, grab lunch at Lower Marsh’s thriving and affordable street food market and then spoil yourself at brand new botanical cocktail bar and small plates restaurant Hello Darling, trendy gastropub The Anchor and Hope or Latin American hotspot, Paladar. Enjoy amazing street art in Leake Street Arches, the only legal graffiti tunnel in the UK. Here you’ll also find House of Vans, home to a skate ramp, cinema and nonstop events which, believe it or not, are all free!

Families will love Southbank Centre’s installation ‘Appearing Rooms’. Try your luck at guessing the fountains’ next move…and prepare to get soaked!

Continue the summer vibes with a visit to Sea Life London Aquarium where kids will love the playful penguins, enchanting jellyfish and breath-taking tunnels, where stingrays glide overhead. Metres away is also Shrek’s Adventure, the London Dungeon and the Coca-Cola London Eye. Discover IWM London through one of their free summer exhibitions. FREE SUMMER EVENTS As always Vauxhall is buzzing with great events all summer long. Kick off with the return of Berlin’s famous pop-up singing extravaganza, Bearpit Karaoke to Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens on Saturday 15th June, 3-7pm and then returning to the Vauxhall on Saturday 13th July, 10th August and 14th September.

July once again sees Vauxhall One’s free outdoor Summer Screen cinemas return to the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens (Tuesday 9th, 16th, 23th, 30st) showing camp hits and cult classics. The Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens will also play host to Victorian Vauxhall, a free family friendly event celebrated the history of Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens as the birthplace of outdoor entertainment on Saturday 24th August.

Today, Bankside continues to be a vibrant creative and cultural neighbourhood, home to the world’s most visited art gallery, Tate Modern, one of London’s oldest food markets, Borough Market, and instantly recognisable Shakespeare’s Globe. Beyond this, Bankside’s medieval networks of streets are sure to capture your curiosity. Explore London’s other side…

INSPIRE YOUR CULTURAL SIDE Theatre is a huge part of Bankside’s heritage and remains core to the fabric of the area. The summer season is in full swing at Shakespeare’s Globe. For every performance they release 700 £5 standing tickets. Enthusiasts of the Bard should also visit The Rose Playhouse which is part archaeological site and open for tours most Saturdays.

Seek out edgier productions at The Bunker, Union Theatre and Cervantes Theatre, and catch Menier Chocolate Factory’s popular off-West End programme.

Tate Modern’s summer exhibitions are a must-see (in addition to the free displays and city vistas from the 360-degree viewing platform). Bankside Gallery also sits on the riverside and is free to enter. Delve further into the backstreets and find newly commissioned works at Jerwood Space from sculpture to performance. Menier Gallery hosts an ever-changing programme of contemporary exhibitions.

WALK THE ARCH SIDE The mighty Victorian rail viaducts form a spine running through Bankside. The Low Line utilises these arches and tunnels to connect communities and places. Follow the Low Line route (see map overleaf) and you’ll stumble upon two destinations…

Flat Iron Square is filled with food trucks, alfresco bars, a gig venue. Enjoy all major sporting activity with their outdoor summer screens. Union

Yard Arches is further west along Union Street and comprises of a lively mix of theatres and restaurants with a sun-drenched courtyard.

SATISFY YOUR HUNGRY SIDE Bankside is a haven for food lovers. In and around Borough Market is a huge range of restaurants and cafés to suit all tastes. Southwark Street also offers an abundance of options from relaxed brunch spots, to chicken and steak restaurants, cocktail bars and those specialising in a vegan and vegetarian offer.

QUENCH YOUR THIRSTY SIDE Bankside and beer go hand in hand, but there are also plenty of wine bars in addition to its pubs. Enjoy cocktails in late night bars or hotel lounges, soak up the atmosphere amongst the railway arches at Flat Iron Square and Union Yard Arches, or for a caffeine fix, find charming independent coffee houses tucked away on Union Street.

WALKING It takes approximately one hour to walk from Vauxhall to Tower Bridge if you follow the Thames Path. South Bank, Bankside, London Bridge, Waterloo and Vauxhall are covered by the Legible London scheme; look out for the monoliths for walking directions.
