    Cleaning / Maintenance

Before any work inside the cabinet disconnect the mains plugof the thermostat cabinet from the socket (do not only switchoff the mains switch).

Every 6 to 8 months remove the dust inside the instrument. Also remove the dustfrom the convection bars with a dry brush. Take care not to tear off cables or bendpipes. For a more thorough cleaning of the cabinet inside (for example if the instrument is tobe stored for a longer time) use lukewarm water with some washing-up liquid orhousehold cleaner for synthetic material surfaces.

The instrument has an automatic defroster. Condensation water is collected in thecondensation container and evaporates automatically. Take care that thecondensation water can flow though the outlet in the back wall without obstructions. Ifnecessary clean the outlet with an elongated object, e. g. with a bottle-brush.

    Shutdown / Non-use

When the thermostat cabinet will not be in use for a longer period:

Switch the instrument off with the ON/OFF switch. Disconnect mains plug from the mains socket. Open the door in order to prevent the development of bad smells.

    Transport preparation

Ship the instrument shock-protected (if possible in original packaging). Mark thepacking accordingly (Keep dry / Attention, risk of fracture).

    Operation Maintenance

    26 27

    Setting of temperature values

    Example:

    To change the factory-set desired temperature from 20 C to 25 C:

Press the "UP" key until the desired value of 25 C is set.

The desired sample temperature is achieved after an adjustment time of one to threehours. The necessary duration of the adjustment time depends on the samplequantity.

While the sample temperature is being controlled the air temperature in thethermostat cabinet (it is displayed as actual value at the control unit) may fluctuate byup to several degrees centigrade.

The actual temperature of the sample liquid, however, fluctuates by a maximumof 0.5C!(See also chapter What to do if...: To measure the actual temperature value of thesample.)

The opposite illustration shows for example adesired temperature of 25C and the correspondingactual temperature of 25.3C.

The desired values can be set between 4 Cand 40 C.

To set the desired temperature to lower values procede as mentioned above but usethe "DOWN" key.

The set temperature values remain stored after a power failure or when theinstrument is switched off.

    Testing of thethermostatcabinet

Action: Preparation: Disconnect all consumers from the sockets of the TMC-Var unit. Switch the instrument on: The desired value and the actual value must be displayed. Ventilator test: Both ventilators must blow downwards. Hold your hand closely below the ventilator grating and check the air stream. Cooling test: Set desired value to 4 C. Close cabinet door. Immediately or after 8 minutes at the latest (due to a switch-on interlock against too frequent switching) the compressor of the thermostat cabinet must switch on. The temperature in the thermostat cabinet must decrease. For testing use additional thermometer without water-filled BOD bottle. Test of heating and compressor switching-off: Set desired value to 40 C. Close cabinet door. The compressor of the thermostat cabinet must switch off immediately. The heating must switch on. The temperature in the thermostat cabinet must increase. For testing use additional thermometer without water-filled BOD bottle. Test of temperature controlling of the thermostat cabinet: Set desired value to 20 C. Close cabinet door. The actual value of the sample temperature must be in the range 19.0 C to 21.0 C. For test see: Measuring the actual value of the sample temperature. Test of sockets: Connect small consumer (for example WTW stirring platform) to each individual socket of the TMC-Var unit. The small consumer must work at each socket. If all test points are O.K., the thermostat cabinet is O.K.

If not, contact the WTW service department.
