Announcements1) The new forums: Make sure you signed

up (under the Forums Jr. tab). Week 8’s forums will appear there

2)Make sure you are working on project 2. It’s not due until November 12th, but if you wait until the last minute, you will be sorry.

3)I need to stress this again: Make sure you are reading everything I’m sending out. I received many, many questions this week that had been explained already.

HopefullyMy health will improve. I’m tired of trying to set a date to return (I thought it would be this week and it didn’t pan out).

Thank you for bearing with things and for your well wishes. I will keep you posted.

Mid-Term Since it’s mid-term, I want to get some feedback. This isn’t a test, really. It’s more a sort of “how is it actually going” activity.

There are 15 questions. I want you to form groups of 2 or 3, pick a recorder, answer them, and email them to me.

Please send them to me by 11:59 pm tonight (Monday, October 18th)

If a question seems odd, roll with it.

OneFill in the two blanks then finish the statement:

“If this class was a ______ it would be a _____ because …”

Page 7: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

Two Speaking of class activities (the blanks can be more than one word, btw):

“We loved _____ but I hope we never have to ______ again.”

Page 8: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

ThreeWhat is the one thing, above all else, that doesn’t make sense from or about class?

Page 9: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

Four There’s a grid on our website. It’s here. Look it over as a group and determine what cells you don’t think we’ve addressed yet.

Page 10: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

FiveAs a group, what are the 3 things you really want to learn before the end of the semester?

Page 11: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

SixThe Spartans football team is undefeated. How cool is that?

Page 12: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

SevenPick, as a group, some group you all know (movie stars, bands, a sports team, a sports league, etc.). Once you have picked, each member of the group should answer this:

“If class was _____ I’d be _____ because….”

My example. “If class was the Indianapolis Colts, I’d be Bob Sanders, because I’m clearly a game changer, but I spend most of my time on the IR.”

EightSequence 4 of this class looks at remix.

Do you know what a remix is? Tell me! :)

NineAs a group, do you wish:

A. Assignments in class were more open ended and allowed us to make more of the decisions ourselves

B. Less open-ended and made more clear demands as to what we should do

C. Were just like they are, thanksD. I don’t know because I don’t read the

assignments. Is that Tom Hanks walking across Auditorium Road?

TenBy now, you have a sense of the sort of material we’re reading and using for class activities.

As a group, pick a topic you’d like to see us read about in the second half of class.

Now find a link to a reading about it to supply. If it’s good, we’ll use it.

Page 16: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

ElevenThe famed HBO series the Sopranos ended in the middle of a scene, in the middle of a line from the classic Journey track “Don’t Stop Believin’”

It’s a cheap narrative device to end a story in the middle of a scene, but if this class were to end mid-song, with all of us sitting around a table eating onion rings, what song would be playing, and where in the song/on what line, what word would it end?

Page 17: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

TwelveI’ve decided we need to wage war on another WRA class. I blame my anger about this on my illness, but that’s another story.

If we were going to try to defeat another WRA class, what manner of competition would we want to lure them into and what strengths have we built as a class?

Page 18: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

ThirteenMany buildings don’t have a 13th floor because of superstition. It’s “bad luck” and people are “afraid” of the 13th floor.

So what are you afraid of, related to class?

Page 19: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

FourteenThis week, due to the number of people having problems with the Wordpress login, I created new forums for class (SIGN UP!).

Are there other technology problems that have arisen from class? What fixes would you like to see?

Page 20: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

FifteenI was driving across East Lansing as the crowd let out from the game yesterday. I noticed that though we’d just won and moved to 7-0, many people looked sad and/or angry.

Why do people seem so unhappy, generally speaking, when walking around campus? Do you smile at other people? Do you say hello? What’s up with MSU?

Page 21: WRA 150 Week 8 inclass

When you finish Email to me. alexa325 @ msu dot edu

Thanks for your input. Easy midterm, right?

Don’t forget…Upcoming due dates:

Making project 2: October 20th

Project 3: October 29th Making 3: October 31st (if you don’t have a prompt for this yet, we need to talk ASAP– email me)

Project 2: November 12th

And remember…The stuff I post for the hybrid part of class NOT optional. You MUST read and complete all of it.

Most of you know that, but some of you are forgetting. Your grades and your learning will suffer. Make sure to pay close attention to everything, and if you have questions ask sooner than later.

This class should be challenging but not particularly hard. If things are difficult, talk to me.

Week 8 continues in the hybrid materials!
