GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

CAMBRIDGE CHIMES WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

GREETING EACH OTHER Ringing of Bell

PRELUDE “Trumpet in Dialogue” ~Clerambault Lighting of the candles

*OPENING PRAYER

*HYMN #2062 “The Lily of the Valley”

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION Giving God, please forgive us – you offer us bread from heaven, the food that satisfies our hearts and souls, and yet we chase after that which does not satisfy: money, comfort, “likes” on Instagram and Facebook. You invite us into this house of worship to meet your Son in all his beauty, yet we come looking to “eat our fill” like the people of old. You ask us to believe in you and your Son, yet we still trust in ourselves and our “stuff.” Please accept our humble but heartfelt confessions this morning. Help change our hearts into hearts like yours. Help us look to you each time we are tempted. Forgive us, Holy One and continue to strengthen us. (silence is observed for reflection and prayer)

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Just like Jesus offers himself to strengthen and encourage us, so God offers

forgiveness to all who ask. Know and believe God forgives you and cleanses you this day.

P: We joyfully receive God’s forgiveness and shout “Hallelujah!”

SPECIAL MUSIC “It Is Well With My Soul” Zach Caloritis & Amy Vorhauer

PROCLAIMING THE WORD

SCRIPTURE READINGS Psalm 78:23-29 p. 468 John 6:24-35 p. 867 L: This is the word of the Lord P: Thanks be to God!

SERMON “Soul Food” Rev. Tedd Pullano

*HYMN #390 “O Savior in this Quiet Place”

OFFERING OUR GIFTS TO GOD

OFFERING INVITATION OFFERING OUR GIFTS TO GOD OFFERTORY “Ave Maria” ~Bach/Gounod

*DOXOLOGY #542 v.4

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION (unison) Wow, we have so much. May what we have offered here be blessed and

multiplied by you, God of the skies above and the doors of heaven. May you rain down blessings upon many people with the gifts we have brought to you. May our gifts bring satisfaction and health to our Veterans, shut-ins and all

who receive them. Thanks be to God, Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD

JOYS AND CONCERNS PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

PASTORAL PRAYER

*Worshipers please stand (as you are able)

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER (All who trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are invited to partake. Children shall partake of the elements under their parents’ guidance.)

*INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE L: Let us gather around the table with the offering of bread and drink upon it and

the promise of the Living Christ among us. This is the welcome table of God where all who seek to be at peace with their neighbor and all who seek the mercy of God in Christ are embraced. Come, for we are invited in to this holy mystery. Come.

P: We are ready!

L: Jesus said: “I am the bread of life. All who come to me shall not hunger, and all who believe in me shall never be thirsty.

P: We are hungry and thirsty. O Lamb of God, we come!

*HYMN #516 “Lord, We Have Come at Your Own Invitation” v.1

*THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING L: Grace-filled and loving God, you have created this amazing, spectacular world

for us – filled with color, fragrance, sound and nourishment. You have created each of us in your image, an image of beauty and love. You have called us, and our ancestors, to be your people – a people of faith, a people of hope and tolerance. Thank you for all your creative actions and for your presence in our lives. Thank you for the many blessings you have given each of us. You are so generous. No gift you gave us is more important or powerful than your son Jesus. He was the real MVP. He brought love to this world in ways we are still talking about. And through his sacrifice, he brought us back to full relationship with you. Wow, that is so important. Thank you. We now sing his praise:

P: Praise to you our brother, Jesus: When you came, you destroyed the hold of sin and death by your sacrifice; through your resurrection, you offer us the bread of life.

L: Come, Holy Spirit. Come. Open our eyes to the mystery of Christ’s presence in these ordinary things in these our ordinary lives. Through your blessing may they be for us the very essence of the living Christ in our midst.

THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison) “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.”

WORDS OF INSTITUTION Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus ate the Passover meal with his disciples in an

upper room in Jerusalem. After they finished the holy meal, Jesus took the bread, thanked God for it, and broke it and told his friends: “This is my body which I give to you. Take it, eat it, and remember me.” Then he took a cup of wine, thanked God for it and said to his friends: “This is my blood given to you as a new agreement between humans and God. Drink it and remember me.”

SHARING OF THE BREAD AND CUP

Distribution of the Bread (bread is gluten free) (To symbolize our common experience of God’s grace, please retain the bread until all have been served.)

Distribution of the Cup (To symbolize our individual experience of God’s grace, please drink of the cup as it is served.)

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION (unison) Gracious and loving God, you have made us one in the body of Christ and nourished us at your table with heavenly food and drink. Thank you for feeding our deepest hunger and relieving our driest thirst. Now send us into the world to do the work you have given us to do: to find the lost and lonely, to heal broken souls, to free prisoners, and make the powerful care. Grant us strength to persevere in resisting evil, and to proclaim in all we say and do your good news in Christ Jesus our Savior. Amen.
