As was reflected at the highly successfulHeimtextil 2016 in Frankfurt, the home textiles market is currently extremely healthy.

It is a very important growth engine forthose countries to which the textile industrycurrently contributes significantly to improving living standards.

As noted opposite, Pakistan, is now enjoying tremendous business within theEuropean Union as a result of a new tradeagreement, but Bangladesh, India, Turkey andof course China, also continue to flourish.

Home textiles, however, are equally important to countries like Germany, wherethe manufacturing of commodity apparelproducts is no longer viable.

The latest performance figures from theAssociation of the German Home TextilesIndustry are very encouraging, especiallywhen it comes to exports, but the total of2,866 global companies present at Heimtextil 2016 suggest a highly competitive,if not over-crowded market place.

As a consequence, product differentiationcan often be as much the key to success asprice and this is where Monforts can help.

We continue to develop the finishing technology platforms from which our customers can develop the winning productsto ensure they maximise their quality, efficiency and profitability.

Let us help make your home furnishingfabrics stand out from the crowd!

For Pakistan-based manufacturers ofhome textiles, Heimtextil in Frankfurtremains the most important tradeshow of any year, but the recent shows have become of even greater significance following a new tradedeal.

At the start of 2014, Pakistan’snew ‘GSP-plus’ status came into ef-fect with the European Union; ensur-ing that Pakistan home textilesmanufacturers pay no tax on thegoods they sell to the 27-nation blocfor ten years.

This has given the industry a clearadvantage over several importantcompetitors, including India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and, not least, China.

As a consequence, Pakistan’sCommerce Minister Khurram DastgirKhan announced in late 2014 that textile exports to the EU increased by over $1 billion in the first tenmonths of the year.

Before GSP- plus, textile exportsfaced customs tariffs of between 6.4 and 12%.

Special finishes are a vital way for GoharTextiles to differentiate itself in thecrowded market of home textiles andthe company’s expertise in this field allows it to offer a wide range of options.

These include moisture management,anti-static, anti dustmite, UV protection,anti-bacterials, stain release, low temperature drying, hydrophilic and fire retardant treatments.

“Our finishing department relieson the four excellent Monfortsstenters and the Thermosol dyeingunit we have installed,” says Mar-keting Manager Anjum Munir, whodid his training with Monforts atthe Mönchengladbach headquarters inGermany.

“We are widely known for fine quality printing, dyeing and finishing,as well as for our extensive knowledgeof fibre chemistry.”

Gohar has recently added a highspeed spinning unit at its plant inFaisalabad, to become further verticallyintegrated, and it now has the capacity

to produce 200,000 metres of fully finished fabric every day.

Understanding the expectations and requirements of the internationaltextile market, the company is also operating its own power generationplant to provide uninterrupted

production and ensurethe global timelines of itscustomers are honouredwith top priority.

Your 24/7partnerAs the first textile trade fair of the year,Heimtextil 2016, showcased the products of a record 2,866 companiesinvolved in the global trade of fabricsfor home furnishings over 20 halls.

They included many Monforts customers who have recognised thatadvanced processing and functionalnew finishes remain the keys to standing out in what is a highly commoditised market.

Exhibitors came from 69 countries, with 89% of the companies presentbeing from outside Germany - all keento do business in the EU trading block.

Germany’s own manufacturers oftextiles for the home furnishings market, however, are currently buoyant, according to the Association of theGerman Home Textiles Industry.

The revenue generation of Germany’soverall textile industry in 2015 was €11billion, with €3 billion accounted for bysuppliers of fabrics for home furnishings- and over 40% achieved from exporttrade.

The key markets for these high quality German fabrics include contractfittings for hotel chains, cruise shipsand planes.

Despite an extremely uncertain globaleconomy, the outlook for Germanhome textile manufacturers continuesto be positive, with record employmentand wages rising. Interest chargesmeanwhile remain low, as do energy prices.

Perhaps understandably, many German textile manufacturers are currently taking the opportunity to expand their capacities.

Monforts is proud to assist its customers wherever they are in theworld, with an international network ofbranches and agents and the latestdigital communication platforms ensuring 24/7 service.

The production of these luxurious andhighly technical velvet collections hasnow resumed at the Tavelmo Moveltaplant, between the Belgian cities ofLille and Ghent.

“We are the only Belgian companythat is equipped with the necessarypreparation machines, finishing machines for velvets and dye houseexpertise to enable us to produce Devantex fabics to the same high standards for which they were previously well known worldwide,” said Olivier Hellyn, who runs the company with his father Frans and sister Charlotte.

The Movelta brand has been wellknown for years for its ranges of woven

velvets, while the Tavelmo name isequally renowned for flat wovens andcheniles. Fabrics for sofas, curtainsand bedding are exported to more than 60 countries and the group alsosupplies materials extensively to manufacturers of caravans and mobilehomes, boats and outdoor furniture.

Attracting a lot of attention at Heimtextil 2016 were the stain-prooffabric collections for home furnishingswhich have resulted from the company’s new Easy Clean finish, developed in collaboration with achemicals supplier.

With Easy Clean, stains on furnishingfabrics including ink, tomato sauce andred wine can be easily removed withwater and unlike other treatments, itseffectiveness is permanent.

The difference,” says Olivier Hellyn,“is that we are embedding the coatingdeep within the fibres of the fabrics, which took a lot of research and development work to achieve.”

The process is also particularly demanding on the company’s technicians and on the six-chamberMonforts Montex stenter which hasbeen installed to replace two older machines - doing the jobs both much faster and with much better uni-form quality results.

Advanced finishing is at the heart ofeverything the company does, havingmade a conscious decision in 2011 to focus on added-value wet and dryfinishing operations and to invest in the best machines available for eachprocess.

Everything produced goes throughthe stenter at least once, and oftentwice. If the fabrics are mercerised, they then go through the stenter again, and if coated or printed, stentering also follows.

Specific products within the company’s vast range demand especially sensitive handling, such aspolypropylene-based outdoor fabricswhere precise temperature control is

essential, or the latex back-coating ofcaravan fabrics.

In the treatment of face-to-face velvets, meanwhile, the even backingapplied on the Montex stenter is essential for achieving accurate pileanchorage.

Another winning introduction by the company was Easy Outdoor - a protective finish on the company’s latest solution-dyed acrylic outdoorfabrics.

The Heimtextil emphasis for Alok Industries - one of India’sfastest growing home textile companies - was on a range of newfunctional fabrics that set its bedding, bathwear and beachwearranges apart from the crowd.

Alok’s new fabrics focusALOK INDUSTRIES

Introducing them, Home FurnishingsCEO Sanjay Deora described the new Nanocotton as a pre-shrunk,breathable fabric that is manufacturedin an extremely energy efficientprocess and is ideal for sheetingand pillow cases.

Alternatively, EXL is based on extracrosslinked cotton fibres and stayscompletely wrinkle free for up to 50washes.

A year ago, Alok introduced itspatented Alpha Cotton fabrics, representing a new breakthrough inwhat’s possible with cotton and polyester blend yarns.

“The benefit of Alpha Cotton fabricis that it’s a polycotton in which all ofthe polyester is sheathed within thecotton, as a result of how it’s crosswoven,” explained Mr Deora.

“As a result, it provides all the advantages of 100% cotton, but at amuch more competitive price. We’renow promoting it in both bedding sheet sets and towels.”

Another new fabric introduction isCloud Cotton, characterised by an extremely soft hand feel and extremelydurable. It is based on long cotton staple fibres and low linting in performance.

“Specifically for towels, our Aero-Plus fabrics are designed for high ab-sorption and durability, while CloudZero is based on twistless fibres andalso low linting,” said Mr Deora. “Alsonew is our Alphadry quick drying rangebased on Alpha Cotton.”

Alok set up its first polyester texturising plant in 1989 and subsequentlyexpanded into weaving, knitting, processing, home textiles and garment.

To ensure quality and cost efficienciesit then backwards integrated into cotton spinning and the manufacturingof partially-oriented yarn via the continuous polymerisation route.

The company also provides embroidered products through its associate company Grabal AlokImpex.

“As a consequence, we’ve evolvedinto a diversified manufacturer of hometextiles, garments, apparel fabrics andpolyester yarns, selling directly to

manufacturers, exporters, importers, retailers and to some of the world’s topbrands, including M&S, BHS and C&A.”

Headquartered in Mumbai, Alok hasalso gained a strong foothold in India’sdomestic retail market through its H&Astores, and in addition, owns morethan two hundred Store 21 clothingshops across the UK.

On the manufacturing front, thecompany made a substantial $240 million investment a few years agowhich included provision for comprehensive finishing equipment, including a new Montex stenter, a PadThermosol and a second Thermexcontinuous dyeing system.

The company’s textiles for wallcoverings, ceilings, panels and dividers can reallyadd something extra and special interms of design, acoustics and theoverall ambience of any room.

At Heimtextil, Pong’s introduced twonew interior acoustic fabric ranges designed to get the best out of workingor social spaces - Silencio for enhancedacoustic insulation, and Akutex, exploiting highly distinctive weaves.

The company’s Soft Image Lightboxfabrics provide excellent properties for digital printing, especially those intended to be back-lit.

Pong’s has been a pioneer in capitalising on the new possibilities ofdigital printing, having installed twomachines to establish a dedicatedcompany department back in 1999.

This rapid reaction to a changing market has reaped dividends ever since.

“People are looking for innovation, change, inspiration, emotion, new experiences, enjoyment, safety andharmony,” says the company’s Head of Marketing, Jutta Ingala.

“New materials make spectacular interior architectures possible and our

textile wall and ceiling coverings arecustomised with photo-realistic motifs- an exciting alternative to traditionalthat can be printed in monochrome orin colour progressions of infinite resolution.“

“Functional elements such as background lighting or integrated spotlights vary the ambience and ourinnovative acoustic materials have apositive influence on the perception of sound. We offer fabric ranges that

can be flexible, intelligent and highlycustomised.”

As-second-generation owner-ledcompany, Pong’s successfully connectstraditional design with high-tech potential while paying strict attention to sustainable production.

With a weaving and knitting machinecapacity of 1.9 million square metresper month, it has become well knownas a specialist in backlit and blackoutmaterials, in addition to stretch andacoustic fabrics, particularly for commercial buildings, the hotel industry and trade shows.

The company’s decorative fabricsare also widely used in theatrical sets, costume design and in visualmerchandising.

It’s all about striking new interior architecture for Pong’s, headquartered in Stadtlohn, Germany.

Menderes Tekstil has been one ofthe early pioneers of digital printing inTurkey, having operated a first digitalprinting system since 2007 and during2013 installing a second machine, with a wider width of 2.8m.

“Digital printing is certainly helpingus to make our products stand out inthe market through the freedom it provides our designers and the boldimpact and high quality their designscan achieve,” said Sales Executive,Ergül Künar.

Digital printing is becoming increasingly important to the home textiles market. The advent of industrial-scale machines is now posing a serious challenge to the

conventional rotary screen printing oftextiles due, among other benefits, tothe ability to make rapid changes indesigns and considerably reducewaste, but not least to be competitivefrom an economic viewpoint.

Until recently, the technology hasbeen largely limited to fast fashion

markets, pioneered byItaly’s hautecouture industry, and to the production oflarge formatsignage in Europe.

Turkey’s home textiles manufacturers, however, are tipped to be next in thewide-scale adoption digital printing, and Menderes can claim an early lead.

“As a result of single-pass digitalprinting technology an achievablespeed of 20 metres per hour in 2007has reached 4,500 metres per hourtoday,” said Künar.

The ‘Get It Smart’ bed linen collectionfrom Bangladesh powerhouse Zaberand Zubair was a real eye catcher atHeimtextil 2016.

“Denim is always fashionable butyou wouldn’t want pillows and sheetsmade from such a rough and heavymaterial of course,” said General Marketing Manager, Imtiaz Hossain.

“This collection is based on 100%cotton with printed double stitch

Equally attention grabbing - and perhaps to more conventional tastes -was the company’s Belizematic beddingset, based on an extremely attractiveblue sky and fluffy clouds design on a400 thread count Giza cotton fabric.

Headquartered in Gazipur, Zaberand Zubair is a huge concern, despitehaving only been founded 15 yearsago. Over half a billion dollars hasbeen invested on state-of-the-art machinery to grow the company to abusiness which now has the capacityto turn out well over 100,000 hometextile products - bed linens, curtainsand kitchen and table linen - every day.

The company’s processing unit ishighly impressive, and the finishing department is equipped with no lessthan 13 stenters, the majority of whichare Monforts Montex 3.2 metre-widemodels purchased over the past decade.

Monforts has also supplied the company with two sanforizing units,

while an additional Montex infraredstenter and a Thermosol system are installed in the printing and dyeing department.

The reputation of Egyptian Cotton asthe world’s finest rests on a number ofits key characteristics. The length ofthe fibre produces the finest of yarnswithout sacrificing the strength, whichresults in fabrics that are more solidand more resistant to stress.

It has an unbeatable ability to absorb dyes, which gives fabricsdeeper, brighter and more resistantcolours. It is also incredibly soft.

Egyptian Cotton is handpicked andunlike fibres which are processed mechanically, is put under no stress, toleave the fibres straight, intact, and ofthe ultimate purity.

“Egyptian cotton is recognisedworldwide as the world’s most luxuriousand sought after for high quality fabricsand the Egyptian Cotton Council isnow being very pro-active in protectingits brand,” said Sunny Puri, Welspun

UK Business Development Manager, at Heimtextil 2016.

“The generic structure of true Egyptian cotton has recently been established and products are being audited in stores in a closed loop system involving DNA analysis to ensure the authenticity of products.”

Global retailersThis quality guarantee is of considerableimportance to Welspun, which is thenumber one supplier of home textilesto the US market, with customers including 14 of the top 30 global retailers, including Walmart, Target, JC Penney, Kohl’s, and Macy’s.

As the largest vertically-integratedmanufacturer of towels in Asia, it has a distribution network in over 50 countries.

The company’s latest manufacturingplant in Anjar is currently consideredthe flagship for the textile industry in2016 and is the largest ring spinningmill in the world, with some 169,728spindles.

The finishing plant at Anjar is notsurprisingly extensively equipped withtechnology supplied by Monforts.

In addition to working with the latesttechnology available, Welspun is alsocommitted to innovation, and whilethere would seem to be little that canbe further achieved with cotton, thenew Hygro Cotton represents a trulyextraordinary development.

Hygro CottonHygro Cotton is based on a proprietaryspinning technology that producesyarn with a revolutionary hollow core, creating advanced performancethrough unique air-flow for enhancedmoisture wicking, temperature regulation and absorbency.

Rather astonishingly, Hygro Cottonproducts get softer, loftier and morecomfortable over time.

Perhaps the ultimate in luxury towelling is to be found in the ChristySupreme Supima Hygro range.

Christy TowelsChristy, which is now part of WelspunGlobal Brands, is an iconic UK company which was established in1850, when Henry Christy visited thePalace of the Sultan in Constantinople.

He brought back with him a sampleof a handmade, loop pile fabric whichwas new to the western world.

The first Christy towels were shownin the Great Exhibition of 1851 at Crystal Palace, where a set was presented to Queen Victoria, who liked them so much she immediatelyordered more.

Loyal customers associate the company with a style that is inherentlyBritish and by embracing new yarntechnologies such as Hygro Cottonand producing seasonal on-trend designs continues to innovate, in bothbed linen and towels.

Welspun’s Gold Standard guaranteeWelspun’s towels and home furnishing fabrics are the first in theworld to bear the new Egyptian Cotton Gold Standard label as an important assurance of the ultimate in quality.

Triple Fresh fabricsBoyteks Triple Fresh fabrics have beendesigned to combat this by cleaningthe environment air.

These fabrics contain a specially-formulated metal complex that acts asa three-way catalyst to decomposehazardous gases such as formaldehyde, ammonia, acetic acid and nicotine.

As a consequence, these materialsactually diffuse unwanted odoursrather than masking or confining them. The effect is permanent and wash resistant, so will not diminish over time.

Biorythmic fabricsBiorythmic-branded fabrics have been developed to promote a sense of well being via the integration of acombination of minerals known to activate the medians in the body withtheir vibration energy.

“Minerals have been employed over centuries in alternative therapies to promote body communication and enhance relaxation,” says Boyteks MarketingManager Gökmen Kara.

“Lack of communication in thebody can cause many negative effects, leading to insomnia, stressand tiredness. These fabrics help the body to feel more comfortable and rejuvenated as a result of the special combination of minerals.”

Meanwhile, household items such as furniture and carpets can emit hazardous gases and odourinto the air, with potentially detrimental effects on health, causing headaches, nausea and eyeirritations, in addition to exacerbatingallergies.

Boyteks has emerged as a majorplayer in the home furnishings marketin a comparatively short period of time.Founded in 1999, the company beganinternational sales activities two yearslater. It now exports to no less than 103 countries.

At Heimtextil 2016, the companyshowcased three of its latest innovations, including the new Cooler heat transfertechnology for mattresses.

“Staying cool is very important togetting a good night’s sleep,” explainedMarketing Specialist Aydin Aydin. “The body needs to experience a natural drop in temperature when fallingasleep, but the ambient temperature ofthe room can sometimes prevent this.

“Cooler mattress ticking fabrics provide that cooling effect, helping youfall asleep more easily and max imisingsleep quality by providing a relaxingsleep environment. You wake up morerefreshed as a result.”

Simulated skin tests with Cooler haveproved that it keeps skin temperatures1.3°C cooler than cotton or polyesterfabrics.

As one of the world’s leading manufacturer of mattress tickings and a major player in home furnishingfabrics, Boyteks, headquartered in Bursa, Turkey, has over 100 separate branded products which aredistinguished by their special performance attributes.
