• Gates Foundation 2015 Research on graduation results in 7 Puget Sound area districts found…• 1 in 10 students needed the world language competency credits to graduate
• More Spanish speakers needed the credits to graduate than aotherlanguages
• Competency credits made students confident about being bilingual• A small number of students said that the credits helped them realize that the school valued their bilingualism and that it made up for the fact that the school did not teach their home language
• In Bellevue…• 3‐7 students a year need the credits to graduate• More Spanish speakers use the credits to graduate than other languages
