WORKLOAD MANAGEMENTdefinition• The Ability to undertake tasks and responsibilities and

successfully accomplish them within the time available.• The process of completing an amount of work or number of

work units assigned to a particular resource over a given time.• Its been proved that its not just the amount of work that

makes a difference in employee satisfaction and success but also the extent to which employees have the resources (time, equipment, and support) to do the work well.

Why manage workload?• There is a unique relationship between job demands,

intellectual demands, and job satisfaction.

required TASKS and not enough RESOURCES to do the work well.

MANAGING YOUR WORKLOAD• Understand your organization’s and team strategy and vision –

strive to complete value adding tasks first.• Think and compile a list of your tasks and the deadlines – decide the

ones you can do on your own, the ones you need help with. Separate those based on timelines, stakeholder needs, ease of completion.

MANAGING YOUR WORKLOAD

• Relax, breakdown the work according to urgency – sit back, relax and ask yourself…How do I eat this Elephant? One bite at a time, little by little work it out.

• Communicate early – when struggling to keep up with the pace of the job, share your concerns with your line manager, clarify what you need to focus on.

MANAGING YOUR WORKLOAD• Prioritize effectively and stick with the order – use a criteria to

prioritize.• Stay organized – a chaotic workspace creates a chaotic mind, get to

know when best you work and push the most challenging tasks till that period

• Delegate – think of people that can handle the tasks and use resources

MANAGING YOUR WORKLOAD• Know when to say NO – other people like to dump tasks on

you, identify when a task does not belong to you and politely refuse.

• Focus and manage your stress – Its normal to break you day into sections and find a means to cool off the stress.

• If all else fails???
