Section 1: Job Description
Introduction to the Post
We are looking to recruit a replacement full-time post of 10 sessions per week. The successful candidate will join a team which comprises 5 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialist, 3 Speciality Doctors, 1 Clinical Teaching fellow, 3 ST Doctors & Specialist Nurses. The successful applicant must have full registration and a license to practise with the General Medical Council and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the time of interview. Essential qualifications for the post include MRCOG or equivalent.
The post is based in Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI). The infirmary is responsible for the acute services across the region of Dumfries & Galloway, a population of approximately 148,000. The General Manager for the Women and Children’s Directorate is Mrs. Linda Williamson and the successful post holder will be managerially accountable to this person. The Clinical Director for the Women Services is Dr William Forson and the successful post holder will be clinically accountable to him. THE DIRECTORATE Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Maternity Services are part of the Women, Children and Sexual Health Directorate.
THE PROVISION OF MATERNITY SERVICES THROUGHOUT DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY
The integrated Maternity Services of Dumfries and Galloway comprise: Maternity Wing at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary which has 20 maternity beds and 9 neonatal cots, two of which are Neonatal Intensive Care Cots.
In the west of the region, there are 2 maternity beds on the Clenoch Ward in Galloway Community Hospital at Stranraer. Whilst this is a community maternity unit with involvement of Midwives and General Practitioners, the service is managed from the Dumfries Royal Infirmary Maternity Wing.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Department, based at DGRI, provides a wide range of obstetric and gynaecological services. Special interest clinics are held in gynaecological oncology, infertility, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, menopause, vulval disease, urogynaecology, and maternal and fetal medicine. These special interests are supported by one Associate Specialist, two (soon to become three) Speciality Doctors and a Teaching Fellow. There is scope for the appointee to become involved with existing special interest areas or to develop a further special interest. Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary is fully equipped for minimal access gynaecological surgery. A full range of ultrasound scanning equipment is available.
The women’s outpatients currently provides the base for all Antenatal and gynaecological out-

patients and for patients having medical management of miscarriage and medical termination of pregnancy. The Department also admits toward D9 and 23 Hour Unit. The main theatre suite is used for all gynaecological surgery. Gynaecological in-patients are currently cared for in Ward D9 where gynae emergencies are also seen.
The Maternity Wing has 6 LDRP (labour, delivery, recovery, post-partum) beds in its delivery suite. There is a dedicated obstetric theatre and recovery facility. The unit also has 14 beds in its maternity suite, to provide ante-natal and post-natal in-patient care. The ante-natal out-patient services include day case and ultrasonography facilities.
The Neonatal Unit is also located next to the Maternity Wing; there are close links with the Paediatric Department.
The department is supported by a dedicated team of administration and clerical staff. THE DUTIES OF THE POST Clinical Duties Ward rounds will include teaching ward rounds as required. Travel Any travel allocation will be included within the Total Programmed Activities and will be determined by the location at which Direct Clinical Care and Supporting Professional activities are carried out. Teaching The post holder will be responsible for the training and supervision of post-graduates and under-graduates and will be expected to contribute time to this activity on a regular basis, as recognised within the job plan. In addition he/she will be expected to ensure that Junior Staff and medical students receive adequate support and advice and may act as a contact as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice. Research Research is encouraged and supported by an active Research and Development Committee. The appointee will be encouraged to develop research interests associated with their specialist interest. Administration This activity covers the management of individual patients including out patient administration, results reporting, letters/phone calls to patients, carers, GPs and members of the wider multidisciplinary team involved in the patients care. On call arrangements 1 in 5 on call rota with prospective cover Level 1 availability.

Section 4: Main Terms and Conditions of Service
In accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (Scotland) employed in the National Health Service, as amended by the Secretary of State for Scotland, and subsequently the Scottish Parliament, from time to time. Salary:
The current salary applicable to a full time post is £82,669 - £109,849 depending on experience, plus banding depending on rota
Leave: 6 weeks annual leave dependant on experience pro rata plus 10 public holidays pro rata. Entitlement to 30 days study leaves over a 3 year period.
Occupational Sick Pay: During the first year of service – one months full pay (and after completing 4 months service) 2 months half pay During the second year of service – 2 months full pay and 2 months half pay During the third year of service – 4 months full pay and 4 months half pay During the fourth year of service – 5 months full pay and 5 months half pay During the fifth year of service – 5 months full pay and 5 months half pay After completing 5 years of service - 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay
