I am an interaction designer who can find out user needs and transform that into ideas, who can understand the process of interaction design, who can create a visually appealing design.

How to improve knowledge sharing in innovative companies?

In innovative companies, such as design consultancies, people often spend most of time in their own project rooms. As a result, it is hard to know what’s going on in the other teams, to share their own knowledge with other teams.

How can we help people in innovative companies to share knowledge and personal learning within the organization? What would be the first step of improving knowledge sharing in the firm?

Problem Area

Project knowledge sharing

Ideaspring is a mobile application that enable employees in design consultancies to share projectprogress and personal learning.

Users can easily capture photos, share and get updated of in-progresswork, interesting findings and personal opinions.

Capture in-progress whiteboard images, half sheets and archive them in the team space your team’s moods. It would be shared in the company, and allow you to receive insightful comments.

Save interesting articles, inspiring pictures easily to my note or team space, and share them to whom you want.

Ask a question to everyone in the company. People will answer the question, or forward the question to the people whom they think can answer the question.

Check what’s going on in your company.

Tour where other projects are landing now, and what has been progressed.

See what kinds of stuff has inspired me, and inspired others.

Values

Interview Interview Tool Research Analysis

People see the value of knowledge sharing between teams: Time saving, Inspiration and Learning, Validation, Emotional Support. However, there is no tool to support inspiration and tangential knowledges.

Barriers

There are barriers of sharing inspirational, tangential knowledge with other teams.

1. has no motivation to share with other teams 2. perceives sharing as extra work ;3. does not know the right person ;4. In-progress information is hard to share

The number of features are not equal to the level of user satisfaction. At the beginning, we tried to reflect all design principles and user needs. But while we run the user testing sessions, people kept asking “What do you try to solve? What is the core function?”

While creating task flow, we had a long discussion of how to group the features, whether by user action(browse, share, capture..) or by contents(projects, notes, updates...). In our solution, we chose to follow the contents based grouping because we saw the strong distinction between project related work and personal learning.

How can we help small and independent retailers to better connect with customers?

Online shopping sites and shopping apps has changed the shopping behavior. Especially in the neighborhood shopping district where tones of small shops are concentrated, people just do window shopping and buy online. Why? Thanks to shopping apps, people can find the same items in online at lower price. The purchasing process in shopping district is not optimized. People have a hard time to find the shops, find the right items.

Problem Area

Loc is a social networking flatform that help shoppers to find, explore, and buy the right item in a minimum amount of time and at the lower price.

Users can form communities through web and mobile by their taste and interest, and share opinion about the local shops and products. And when they shop, they can use their own community as the information filter, get suggestions and discount coupons on the local shops.

Form communities

Unlike other current social networking on merchandising, Loc has online and offline touch points : web, mobile, public display in the streets. In this project, we created mobile and public display interfaces.

Once you selected the shops you want to visit, the system create the optimal route and send that information to your mobile phone.

Once you log in (bump the smartphone into the screen), the system notice your communities, automatically suggest hot shops within your community groups. If you are with your friends, the system will suggest the commonly interesting shops.

You can help someone who needs suggestion.

You might come to shop for others. In that case, you can also search shops and items for their interests. Put the keywords on communities that your gift receiver might belongs to. The system will suggest shops and items.

Since this project was about communicating new opportunities to the client, we focused on making scenarios rather than creating actual information architecture. You can watch our scenario on http://www.vimeo.com/20456710.

Users already use interpersonal interactions in order to better engage with shopping, regardless of being in a group or being alone.

Users belong to several communities, trust opinions from the community when they purchase items related to them. Recently businesses are seeing value of community as a way to reach the ‘target market’. Group

User Testing

In user testing sessions, we could hear concerns on exposing their personal information on public display, and information protection after they leave the site. We suggested privacy film screen protector on the public screen and added privacy control setting function in mobile and web abpplication.

User testing taught me that designing public display was different experience. Because the viewer might not be one person, I should restrict the screen change and movement. Also considering the distance between the device and the viewers, I redesigned every componants bigger.
