Alterations or Changes to PropertyAs a friendly reminder to the homeowners of Woodmont, please take a moment to review the Neighborhood Living Guidelines before completing any alterations or additions to the exterior of your home. Our community website Covenants Committee page contains the downloadable Covenants and Guidelines document. These Guidelines were created to keep our community's appearance attractive for all who reside in or visit Woodmont. Thank you for helping to keep Woodmont beautiful!

Welcome Committee UpdateThe Advisory Committee consists of many sub-committees such as the Welcome Committee. The Welcome Committee is now being led by Carole Blocker. Please con-tact Carole Blocker at [email protected] if you are interested in serving on this committee. Many thanks to Carole for her continued support of the Woodmont Community!

No Overnight ParkingAs a reminder, overnight parking in not permitted at any of the amenity locations throughout the community. The Summer Club, Tennis Club and various Parks do not allow overnight parking. Violators will be towed at their own expense. Signage is being installed in these locations currently.

Off-Duty PatrolsOff-Duty Law Enforcement Offi cers continue to patrol our Community on predetermined days. During scheduled School Breaks and Holidays we have an increased presence of patrols. If you see something suspicious in our Community, don’t question it!

Dial 9-1-1 immediately.

No Overnight Parking On The Street!A frequent question from homeowners pertains to parking on the street. The Neighborhood Covenants state that, "Vehicles shall not be parked on any street in the Community." This of course does not apply to brief gatherings during the day or early evening. Please make every effort to move vehicles to your garage or driveway overnight.

Please Respect Your Neighbors PropertySomething as innocent as toilet paper in your neighbor’s trees causes an unnecessary eyesore and extensive cleanup work, not to mention a poor appearance in our ever growing community. This type of behavior is not tolerated in the community and will be dealt with by our Community Security Patrols. Our Off-Duty Deputies are on the lookout for this type of

Mailbox in Disrepair? Our management company recently informed the HOA Advisory Committee of several instances of residents 'modifying' their mailboxes in hopes of salvaging them. All of these attempts to extend the life of the damaged mailboxes has led to a necessary replacement. Please understand the guidelines in the Community Covenants are in place to enforce uniformity in these types of circumstances. What may appear to be an acceptable repair in someone's eyes, might likely be an eyesore to most others. Most just need a fresh coat of paint and new metal box, others are beyond maintenance or repair. For those in search of a replacement, please contact our approved vendor Contemporary Kitchens. The cost of $400 includes a sealed and painted post, metal mailbox and concrete in-ground installation. For more information contact Paul with Contemporary Kitchens at 770-487-3377.

Yard Signage GuidelinesSignage is not permitted without prior written consent of the Board except:

• Professional security signs

• As required by legal proceedings

• Professionally lettered “for sale” or “for rent” – see covenants for detailed specifications

• One political/campaign sign posted no more than 14 days prior to election and removed immediately after

Please remind contractors that their signs may not be posted in the yard before, during or after work is done.

Note: Only realtor signs are permitted on Common Areas from Friday evening to Sunday evening.

Contact [email protected] with any questions.

Help Keep Woodmont From Looking TrashyAs a reminder, trash receptacles are to be placed at the street the evening prior to trash pickup day, and are to be removed and stored by the evening of trash pickup day. Storage of trash

receptacles at all other times should be according to the Neighborhood Protective Covenants. The Covenants specifically state: "...garbage cans, woodpiles, and other similar items shall be located or screened so as to be concealed from view of neighboring Lots, streets and property located adjacent to the Lot." Thank you for your assistance!

Covenants ReportingYour Advisory Committee has a convenient automated form on our Community website for reporting any issues you encounter in Woodmont. Any concerns with exterior modifications such as paint or construction additions should be directed to Chris Hyde at Fieldstone.

Advisory Committee DutiesThe Advisory Committee consists of volunteer Woodmont residents. The representation of the resident committee is very diverse. The current committee has a voice from golf members, activities members, active families, and retired couples. This diversity enables the committee to address concerns from various perspectives.

Homeowner Directory UpdateIt’s that time again! Be on the lookout for a form in the mail. Neighborhood directories are only available to Woodmont residents, so please participate by providing your contact information. New to the directory will be a section for baby-sitters, pet-sitters and house-sitters within the community.

Homeowner FAQ SpotlightIf you have questions about matters in the community, please email those questions to Chris Hyde at Fieldstone Property Management, with a copy to the [email protected]. Below is a question recently raised and an update for the community.

Q: Can you provide an update on the Community Meeting that was mentioned at the Annual

Homeowner’s Meeting?

A: We are planning a date in August to bring to the Woodmont residents a panel of local authorities

from the areas of zoning, law enforcement, department of engineering and the commissioner’s offi ce. This panel will be onsite to answer your questions: speeding on Grandmar, Gaddis Hill erosion, new construction oversight, etc. We are asking that questions be submitted beforehand to have an organized approach to the meeting, leaving on a limited time for questions from the fl oor. Please email your questions to [email protected]. Once the panel participants and a date has been set, we will notify the community in writing.

Q: I noticed that the mailbox used by the new builder in Creekside is not compliant with the

current mailboxes in Woodmont. Has the standard changed?

A: No – the standard has not changed. The mailbox being referenced is temporary and a Woodmont-

compliant mailbox will be installed.

From the General ManagerI would like to thank the entire Woodmont Staff for their performance during our recent MGA Member Guest. I have received many favorable comments on the entire process. What many people do not realize is all of the pre planning work that goes into the event. With that, a big shout out to the Paul Agnelli, MGA President and Mark Humphlett, MGA Tournament Committee for their countless hours spent helping ensure the event was a success. Several Members commented that this was yet again one of the best events they have participated in – and not only here, but in comparison to other club’s venues.

What an exciting time at Woodmont. The Club picked up 48 new or upgraded members in the past 60 days! We are now just 160 Golf Members away from being fully private. Keep in mind, the more members we pick up, the more we will reduce public access to the course. This should help make your experience much more exclusive over time.

As we are growing in numbers at the same time we are enhancing the facility. During this same time, the Club also received a lot of favorable upgrades since Triumph acquired Woodmont on March 30. Not only are there tangible new benefi ts, but several policies have also changed.

For starters, I wanted to inform everyone that as of July 1, the JW Golf Rewards program will be discontinued. For the remainder of this year all Golf Members will receive a 15% discount on all regularly priced pro shop merchandise excluding cigars, as well as the same 15% discount on all Food and Beverage purchases. All Sport and Activities Members will receive a 10% discount. These discounts will be applied at the time of your purchase.

Members who qualifi ed for bag storage or locker rental, those entitlements will remain complimentary throughout the remainder of this year.

The biggest new enhancement to date is that the driving range received a new synthetic tee line last month. This practice tee will help take the stress off the turf when we host large tournaments and events. If you haven’t tried hitting off it, we think you will be very happy

with the way the shot feels. Also on the range are a few new amenities such as club cleaners, chairs with tables and umbrellas and divot repairing stations.

The golf ball pyramid program on the range is a very nice touch for a private country club to offer its members. Our owners are committed to implement pyramids again once the club goes fully private. We will use pyramids on special tournament days when we know that our range is either; in use by a private event, or being utilized only by members on certain tournaments.

While we are in the semi-private mode, it's nearly impossible for us to monitor the range use and thus it does get abused. With any change, there will be some discomfort, but we are committed to ensuring any discomfort is minimized as much as possible. Our goal is to have bags of balls ready to offer our regular groups so they don’t have to check in with the shop. And for the person who wants to practice rather than warm up, we can accommodate those requests on a case by case basis. Our goal is to mitigate the member from having to check into the golf shop for a bag of balls, but at the same time to prevent non members from abusing the complimentary balls on the range for the members.

The policy as it relates to the range is Activity members do not have range privileges. If an Activity Member wishes to use the range, they must purchase the balls from the Pro Shop. The Associate Membership is defi ned as a weekday membership Monday through Friday – except for holidays. Use of the golf course and driving range is treated the same. If a weekday Associate Member would like to play on a weekend or use the driving range, they may do so, but must pay the appropriate fees for daily use on a weekend.

Aside from driving range modifi cations, the Club also had all of the landscaping around the clubhouse and entrance refreshed with new fl owers and plantings including some hanging plants and ferns on the porches to provide more of that warm Southern welcoming atmosphere.

Our fi tness center underwent a complete facelift with all new carpet, rubber

matted fl ooring in the heavy weight area and a fresh new coat of paint.

The F&B operation received more than $12,000 in upgrades. The dining room received new china, glass and silverware to enhance the dining experience. In addition, we have also provided the Tennis Pro Shop with a beverage cooler and kegerator for dispensing beer. Please note that due to our liquor license, ALL alcoholic beverages consumed on Club premises, including the course, tennis courts and pool areas must be purchased from the Club.

From behind the scenes, we are replacing our existing Point of Sale system (POS).

We are switching to Jonas and the transition happens this month. We do ask for everyone’s patience during this transition as we do not expect any hiccups or issues, but with any program change there just might be some bugs to work out. Along with that change, we have also rolled out a new website through CourseTrends. Every feature from the old site is still intact; we have just added a fresh new look and feel. If you have any problems accessing the member-only section, please reach out to Hannah Hyde for complete access.

We greatly appreciate everyone’s favorable input and comments about all of the upgrades and changes. Please let me or a

member of the staff know what we can do to improve your experience. Alternatively, you may reach out to any of the volunteers on our Membership Advisory Committee. We meet monthly to discuss ways to grow our membership through various outreach programs. The committee includes: Bob & Margo Jardien, Mark Degenkolb, Peter Vadja, Jeannie Blumer, Shelling Hollingsworth, Kevin Williams, Trish Bostick, Brandt Winslette, Ken Hawkins, Julie Pennington, Bill Stephens and Will Cox.

From the Garden ClubProtecting KingsnakesThe emphasis of this article is on kingsnakes and Copperheads…there are fewer kingsnakes and more Copperheads according to the journal Herpetologica (http://allenpress.com/node/1055) founded in March, 2014. There were 377 traps deployed in several habitats, in which, 299 kingsnakes and 2,012 copperheads were captured; indicating a decline in the kingsnake population and an increase in the population of copperheads. The causes of these declines are unknown, but habitat loss, imported fire ants, or diseases are potential causes.

Eastern KingsnakeThe non-venomous, Eastern Kingsnake, grows to more than five feet long, shiny-black, a smooth-scaled snake with white or yellow chain-linked bands that cross the back and connect along the sides and has a short stout head and small beady eyes. In our region (Piedmont) their habitat includes hardwoods, pine forests, farmlands and suburban areas. They are strongly terrestrial, but inhabit areas close to water such as stream banks. They are frequently found under boards, tin or other covered objects. It is also active only during the day but is most active in the morning during the summer. They constrict their prey, eating on small mammals, lizards, snakes, birds, and frogs. This snake is resistant to pit-vipers and will readily consume copperheads, cottonmouths, and rattlesnakes. They mate in the spring, and females lay 3-24 eggs under debris or in rotting logs in early summer and eggs hatch in August-September.

Mole KingsnakeThe non-venomous, Mole Kingsnake, grows to 30 - 40 inches in size, smooth scales and usually have a light/dark brown to reddish body with a row of reddish brown elliptical spots down the entire length of the dorsum. The Mole Kingsnake is most often found in open habitats such as fields, cultivated lands, thickets, and edge habitats or hiding under boards or other debris or crossing roads on warm evenings. They consume a variety of prey including small mammals, lizards, birds, and other snakes. Mating takes place in late spring to early summer, and they lay up to 17 eggs underground in early to mid summer. The eggs hatch in late summer to early fall.

Juvenile CopperheadThe venomous, Copperhead, grows to 24 - 40 inches, a heavy-bodied snake with a large, triangular head and elliptical pupil (cat eyes). The body is tan to brown with darker hourglass-shaped crossbands down the length of the body. The head is solid brown, and there are two tiny dots in the center of the top of the head. Juveniles resemble adults but have a bright yellow tail tip. As pit-vipers, they have facial pits that sense heat and are used to detect prey and predators. This snake is the only

species with hourglass-shaped crossbands (all other species have blotches that are circular, square, or are widest down the center of the back).

They are found in forested areas throughout most of Georgia; their habitat preferences change across our region. Copperheads are quite tolerant of habitat alteration and remain common in suburban areas of many large cities.

They can be found during the day or night, but forage primarily after dark during the hotter parts of summer. In our region, they are frequently observed crossing roads on warm nights. They mate in the spring, at which time males move long distances in search of females. Females fully incubate their eggs internally before giving live birth of 7 – 10 live offspring in the late summer. The young have bright yellow tail tips that they wiggle to attract prey such as frogs and lizards. Because they are common in forested habitats and are well-camouflaged, Copperheads are responsible for the majority of the snakebites in the Southeast each year. Copperhead venom is not very potent, and deaths from copperhead bites are rare. If you come across a juvenile beware because he does not know how to control his venom and will release all of it on you. Most snake bites occur when someone tries to kill or harass a snake, so the best way to avoid a bite is to leave any snake you find alone.

It is of utmost importance for you to learn how to identify the snakes in our region (Piedmont) by visiting the website http://srelherp.uga.edu/index.htm to help save our ecosystem. When going out in the woods take a walking stick with you to pound on the ground. The vibration from the pounding will scare off snakes. It is also important to know when the mating season begins, and the birthing takes place, either live or by eggs. There will be lots of snakes out at that time, so you just need to keep aware of your surroundings. Non-venomous snakes are protected in Georgia.

Golf NewsIt has been another hot week here at Woodmont. Our staff is working hard to keep Woodmont fi rm and fast without losing turf in the process. This week we have continued working on greens’ health. We applied fungicides to protect and cure disease issues, and liquid fertilizer to keep fertility at an optimal level. Due to the high temperatures, we also skipped mowing Monday and supplemented with a nice roll of the greens. This allowed us to maintain the same speed while keeping the leaf blade higher, thus allowing the roots to grow longer. Lastly, we topdressed Wednesday which has given us various benefi ts. These include improved smoothness of the surface, ball mark recovery, the drying of the turf canopy, and protection of the crown of the plant so that it can have a day or two to recover. This process is crucial to the health of the greens. Often times, if you look closely, the greens look much more vibrant a day or two after topdressing.

This week we also fertilized all of our tees. Even though we apply a slow release fertilizer every spring that lasts the entire growing season, tees often need a little

more help to stay pretty. We also repaired an electrical problem with our irrigation system that was preventing the tees on #2 from being watered. These tees should begin to look much better over the next few weeks. A little rain wouldn’t hurt either!

In an effort to make it easy for golfers to fi nd yardages, we are in the process of edging all sprinkler heads on the course. They were previously grown over and hard to fi nd. Edging will also make our sprinklers run more effi ciently.

As you may have noticed, we have purchased new fl ags. We now have an everyday set and a special tournament set.

They are embroidered with the Woodmont logo and are very sharp. We have chosen to do the “Red, white and blue” system that many other courses use. Now, Red is a front pin, white is a middle pin, and blue is a back pin. On greens #6, 11, and 16 the pin locations from left to right are red, white, and blue.

Lastly, we have made a conscience effort to keep repairing bunker liners. It is hard work and a constant battle but please know that we are improving the problem little by little every day. We would also like to encourage everyone to fi x ball marks on our greens, even if you didn’t make them. Our staff fi xes ball marks every morning before mowing greens which helps smooth the surface, however if they aren’t fi xed right away the turf will be dead long before we can fi x them. If we all do our part, we will defi nitely make a big difference in the look and playability of our greens.

Thank you,

Doug Griffeth GCS Woodmont Golf Club

Couples GolfCouples golf at Woodmont is geared for all golf members of all skill levels. Our events are more social golf with just a hint of competition. We attempt to have fun formats with a lot of socializing, good meals and a few adult beverages mixed in.

We have made a lot of plans and new events for 2016. A huge thank you goes out to the WLGA ladies for taking a very active role in our new Nine and Dine events. They will be held on the 4th Friday of the month from March thru October. We will continue our Sunday Couples with plans to run from May thru September. Our goal will be the fi rst Sunday of the month with the exception of July and September due to the holidays.

We hope the weather is more cooperative this year than last. The standing joke was to sign up for couples, fertilize your lawn and watch the rain. We were rained out on all but two events last year.

We will have sign ups on the Woodmont Events. Formats will be spelled out at that time. The planned dates are as follows.

Golf NewsJuly 31st Membership DeadlineDear Members and Residents

When Triumph acquired Woodmont Golf and Country Club on March 30, they announced their plans to take the Club fully private. With that in mind, we developed some very exciting opportunities for new members to join the club and encourage current Members to upgrade.

I am excited to report that these opportunities have been very well received, but the offers are expiring at the end of July and I wanted to remind everyone of these great opportunities. Over the past 90 days, the Club has attracted 33 new members and 15 have upgraded their Activities Membership to become Golf Members. We are now just 160 Golf Members away from being fully private! The main reasons for so many Activity Member upgrades are twofold – 1) we are providing a credit equal to the original $1,000 Activity Membership initiation fee to count toward the Golf Membership initiation fee – an offer that has never been offered by the previous owners; and 2) Once the Club reaches the minimum amount of Golf Members, Activity Members have learned they will no longer have access to play the course – except occasionally as a guest of a member.

The Club currently has 310 Activity Members. If half of these Members converted to a Golf Membership tomorrow – we would reach our goal in becoming fully private by the end of July.

This preferred offer for current Homeowners and Member referrals to join the club will expire July 31. After this date, we will begin reaching out to residents of other communities who desire Membership

at Woodmont. If you are a current Resident or Activities Member and don’t want to miss out on golfing at Woodmont, now is the best time to join or upgrade:

We mailed each Resident and Member a $1,000 Certificate for use toward a Golf Membership or alternatively it can be used as a $250 Certificate for an Activities or Sports Membership. If you did not receive one, contact me to get yours. If you used it to upgrade or handed it out to a friend and need another, do not hesitate to reach out and get another. These certificates all have an expiration date of July 31st and if you are thinking about Club Membership, now is the time to take advantage of this special offer.

Along with the use of a certificate, we have our loyalty program which allows new Members to pay just 50% of their Initiation Fee with the remaining 50% on a 24-month Promissory Note. Remain a member in good standing for 24 months and the remaining balance of 50% is forgiven. See me for details.

For those who wish to upgrade from an Associate Member to a Full Golf Member, there is NO initiation fee required – all you have to do is call me today and activate your new 7 day access.

Please keep in mind that during this transition, Associate Members no longer have golf course or range access on weekends or holidays. For as little as $80 more per month, Associate Golf Members can enjoy Full Golf benefits including unlimited golf and range privileges.

Also – did you know that Single Associate and Full Golf Members can add their spouse or entire family to the plan for just $20 per month? As a reminder, Single Memberships provide just the individual member access to the club, course and amenities.

Please contact me, Rob Pritts, Director of Sales for more information and to take advantage of this limited time offer. I can be reached at 404-788-4425 or [email protected]

Golf News

Uneven liesWe all struggle with uneven lies when we are playing. In this article, I am going to help you with some simple tips to help you hit better golf shots. There are four basic uneven lies that we deal with. (From a right handed perspective)

• Downhill lies (the rear foot is higher than the lead foot)

• Uphill lies (the rear foot is lower than the lead foot)

• Side hill lie where the ball is above your feet

• Side hill lie where the ball is below your feet

Here are a few suggestions to help you next time you are faced with an uneven lie.

DOWN HILL LIE- the tendency is for the ball to go to the right, because often times we are out in front of the ball at contact or sliding through the shot in an effort to maintain our balance. We also often hit this shot thin.

UP HILL LIE- the tendency is for the ball to go the left, because often times we have a hard time getting into our left side or hang back on our right side. We also often hit this shot fat.

• Align your shoulders with the slope

• Place the ball closer to the higher foot

• Place your weight on the lower foot

• Up hill lie (aim a little farther right)

• Down hill lie (aim a little farther left)

SIDE HILL LIE (ball above your feet)- the tendency is for the ball to go to the left or to hit it fat.

• Aim a little farther right

• Place the ball farther back in your stance

• Stand a little taller through the shot

SIDE HILL LIE (ball below your feet)- the tendency is for the ball to go to the right or hit it thin/top it.

• Aim a little farther left

• Place the ball farther back in your stance

• Widen your stance

• Squat straight down with your rear end (this helps to lower your center of gravity)

Golf Association NewsWLGA NEWSAfter a rainout in May, we welcomed 15 teams (60 players) to our annual Sucker in the Bucket Invitational Tournament on Tuesday, June 14th. Even with the hot and humid conditions, we had a great turnout. We had solid support from the Woodmont community with 7 teams participating. First and Second places were won by the Cartersville and Coosa/Cherokee teams with scores of 60 and 61 respectively. The Woodmont team of Clare Clark, Tonnie Carter, Charlotte O’Connor and Jan Beaupre came in third with a score of 62. Woodmont was well represented in the proximity prizes with Jackie Diehl and Clare Clark winning Closest to the Pin awards on No. 2 and No. 13 respectively. Thanks to the Tournament Committee (Joan Muller, Della Judy, Ellen VanderLinden, Brenda Lighter, Priscilla O’Connell, Brenda Frazier and Margot Jardien) for a job well done. The food was excellent and the Pro Shop staff did an outstanding job. We are looking forward to a bigger and better event next year.

Due to the change in the Sucker in the Bucket date, we have rescheduled the Woodmont Crown Cup Event (formerly King/Queen for a Day) for Tuesday, July 26th. This year we are dedicating the tournament to Chris Oliver who was associated with this tournament for many years. We will be sharing many stories about Chris over lunch and Eileen will be joining us as our guest. The deadline to sign-up is Thursday, July 21st. We are expecting strong support from the WLGA and SMGA organizations for this 4-person scramble event in honor of Chris. The WLGA accepts new members throughout the season. Join us for a Tuesday or Saturday Play Day to check us out before making your decision to join. Membership dues are only $25 after July 1st.

Please contact Linda Castor at 770-704-1776, [email protected] or Clare Clark at 770-720-8266, [email protected] for more membership information.Looking forward to seeing you on the golf course.

Juniors make sure when you come to the club you have on proper golf attire and your own set of clubs.Collared shirts, no denim or cargo shorts.

If you have any questions about procedures to play golf on the other days than Monday nights always call the pro shop before coming out (VIP).

As the festivities commenced on Thursday we had a few fun contests going on. Long Drive (or throw your back out on day 1), Closest to the Pin and Putting. Kudos to Taylor and his staff for setting up a great putting contest and kudos to none other than Marc Degenkolb for starting his week with a win. Normally the par3 winner doesn't win the Master's but apparently the putting champ can. Marc shot an 8 to beat out Humphlett, Rice and Vadja at 9. Closest to the pin was also dominated by fl ight winners as Brad Reed beat JJ Stewart by a foot in the A group and Greg Erwin beat out Stan Rowland by 1 foot 5 inches in the B fl ight. However, I think we can all agree that chicks dig the long drive, so the only real contest this weekend was won by Brian McCloy, who beat out Jared O'Kelley with a drive of 359 yards vs 342. In the Wiser division it was none other than smart brother Jay Humphlett who poked one 323 yards to beat out Rodney Hinson's 312.

Please introduce yourself to golfers who may be unfamiliar, as we have many new members and are always looking for new WMGA members. I look forward to next year's Member Guest being a full fi eld with all of these new faces and I look forward to another great weekend of competition and camaraderie. Please get signed up for the upcoming tournaments and get your Woodmont Cup matches played (Agnelli). I hope everyone is having a great summer fi lled with Family, friends and golf, see you next month.

Scott's Tennis TipMany times we see our players lose important matches, and not because their opponents are better, but because the implemented tactics were ineffective, or no real tactics were used at all.

Shot tolerance or the number of balls a player is willing to hit in order to win the point is an extremely important aspect in tennis. Every player has a number and that number will depend on his or her style of play. If you are an aggressive baseliner or a serve and volleyer, your shot tolerance is probably not as high as that of a counterpuncher.

While every player needs to know his own number, he also needs to be able to recognize the opponent’s style of play and shot tolerance early in the match in order to apply the right patterns and tactics that will help him win the match.

Preparation: Spray skillet with non stick cooking spray. Heat the pan on medium. Add pepperoni and cook until crisp, about 30 seconds. Drain on paper towels.

Wipe out the inside of the pan. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Add salt and pepper. Melt 1 T. butter in pan. Pour egg mixture into pan. Cook until it’s almost set (about 5-7 minutes), using a rubber spatula to make sure it doesn’t stick to the pan. Add pepperoni and cheese.
