Dear Families

I am really pleased to announce that the umbrella over the outdoor Transition sitting area has now been installed thanks to our Maintenance Officer, Mr Balnaves. The children were so excited that at lunch time yesterday they all raced to sit under it. The next item on our wish list is a U shaped table to go under the umbrella for students to use as an outdoor eating, playing and learning area.

Children have recently taken home their chronicles and a note regarding Parent /Teacher Interviews. If you have misplaced your appointment note there is one included with this newsletter. We all know the importance of positive relationships and communication between class teachers and parents.

Today a Palmerston School Counsellor spoke to our early childhood classes on Protective Behaviour. A note went home to Transition, Year 1 and Year 2 families offering tips to reinforce these strategies at home. To assist all our families this note will be published in next week’s newsletter. Camp Recount By Lilah and Tiahna

On the first day of camp we set up the tents at the Camp

Calytrix site at the Territory Wildlife Park. We then sat on

the veranda, got our camp books and we went through the

rules. We were then organised into our buddy groups of four.

We got told about the Amazing Race. We made bandannas

for our buddy groups. Our team name was Hens Angels.

There were 12 buddy groups and at the end of the amazing

race the team that won will get a trophy and the teachers

would put it in the office.

On the final day of camp, after completing all our Road

Blocks and Route Info activities the winner of the Amazing

Race was announced. But before Ms Clarke gave out the

winners’ trophy, she counted down the teams from 12 to 1.

Our team came 8th but I think we did alright.

Before we left on Wednesday, we went to the billabong to

feed some pelicans. After that we went back to the camp site,

packed up, had a snack and then the bus driver came to pick

us up and we went back to school. We were tired but we had

a good time.

Year 5/6 Camp at The Territory

Wildlife Park

Recount about Camp By Kho Annette Mearns

On Monday the 18th of August 2014 some of the year 5/6 went to

camp. When I got to school on Monday I had three bags to carry.

The first thing we did at school was sport with Miss Cahill. After

sports we watched the Lion king for a little while. When the bus

arrived I was really excited. When we got on the bus I was very

excited.

Finally we arrived at the Northern Territory Wildlife Park. The

first thing we did was setting up the tents. It was pretty hard to set

it up; I was sleeping with Cheyenne and Lilly. Then we walked to

a little shady place around the corner. That was when we met

Andy and his stick. Andy was our guide and our train driver. We

also got little booklets that had what we were doing and who our

buddy groups were.

The next thing we did was going to the main station where we held

a carpet python called Lady Gaga. I am a bit afraid of snakes but

not this snake. We then met another guide named Michael. In the

evening we went to the monsoon forest and it had lots of

interesting plants such as Pandanus and Melaleuca. We heard a lot

of different noises as well. It got darker and darker at night; it was

time for us to go have dinner at the café. We had spaghetti

bolognese. After dinner we went back to camp. We got back by

the shuttle train and then we had hot chocolate. After that we went

to bed in our tents.

My favourite part of camp was learning about the native plants and

spending time with my friends.
