A message from the Principal Class Team…

    Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Roof Restoration works Recent funding from the Victorian School Building Authority has enabled us to employ Allmore Contructions to restore the roof in Building A and B. Although the works are noisy and at times disruptive, staff and students have been flexible and understand, the need to be safe at all times. Depending on the weather, we anticipate the roof works to be completed within the next couple of weeks. Late to school Just a reminder that commencing this term, children who arrive at school after 8.50am will be escorted to their classroom by a member of staff. Please say a quick goodbye at the office so your child can be walked to class and start their learning with a minimum of disruption to other students. Thank you in advance for your support with this initiative.

  • We want our students to tell us what they think… Our school is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education and Training to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. Students in Year 4, 5 and 6 at our school will participate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. It is important to note that we are not in any way “testing” your child. The survey results will be reported back to the school in term 3. No student can be identified in the results reported to schools or in any other report of the data. This year the Attitudes to School survey will be conducted at our school in the next couple of weeks. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class time. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information or visit the Department of Education and Training website: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/school/principals/management/Pages/performsurveyat.aspx.

2020 Prep Enrolments If you have a child who is eligible to come to school in 2020 (turning 5 years of age by April 30th 2020), we are accepting enrolments now. To enrol you will need to bring: Child’s birth certificate Immunisation certificate Visa (Passport) if child is not born in Australia Proof of residential address (Utility bill e.g. gas/electricity)

If you know someone who would like a tour of our school, please have them call the office on 9749-2770 to make an appointment.

Whole School Didjeribone Incursion Thanks to Ms Nott for planning and organising the whole school Didjeribone performance, held on Monday at school. Tjippuru was extremely entertaining and kept the students engaged for over an hour with a collection of songs, stories and musical performances. Every Day Counts! • Active Travel Launch Last Friday we celebrated our Active Travel Launch. On this day we were joined by the Mayor of Wyndham City and two other Wyndham councillors. The students participated in a variety of activities along with bike riding. Students’ bikes were inspected and some were given minor maintenance courtesy of the Men’s Shed. Our Active Travel initiative continues to develop. Along with our regular Friday Walk to Woodville day, we will soon be introducing a Wheel to Woodville day once a week in which we will be encouraging students from 3 - 6 to ride, rollerblade or scoot to school. We hope to have many students participate in this new initiative. If you are able to volunteer to help with Walk or Wheel to Woodville, please pass your information on to our office staff. Thanks Mr S

    Student Absences

If your child will be absent from school please call the office on 9749 2770 and press 1 for absences. Parents of students with an unexplained absence will be sent a SMS message each day asking for the absence to be explained. Parents/Carers can also notify the school via the eform on the Skoolbag App.

Do you need to update your details?

Have you recently changed your mobile number, moved house, changed jobs or got a new email address. If so it is important, we have current contact information

on file (including your emergency contact). Please send a note with updated details to school or an email to [email protected] or use the eform on the Skoolbag app.

Skoolbag App We encourage all families to download the Skoolbag App to their smart phone. This App is a relatively new communication tool, which we hope will help to build stronger communication links within our community. Skoolbag is one of Australia’s most trusted school apps, empowering schools to engage parents through a simple and central communication platform. The easy-to-use desktop and mobile app streamlines all aspects of organising school life, from newsletters and events to student attendance and documentation. We hope that as many members of our school community can jump on board, download the Skoolbag app and let us know what they think. The Skoolbag app is used in hundreds of schools across Australia. We are aware of another Woodville Primary School in South Australia using the app; therefore, when you register and select a school please ensure that you select Woodville Primary School Vic.

  • Prep News On Friday 17th May, the preps participated in an incursion titled ‘Crazy Chemicals’. The students were very engaged in learning all about science. The students got to look through a microscope, play with different types of magnets, use bicarbonate soda and vinegar to make a toy rocket fly up into the air, use pencils to poke holes through a zip lock bag that was filled with water and the best part was the students got to make slime!

I liked making the slime. (Taonga- Prep A) My favourite part was when the rocket was flying up into the air. (Shae- Prep B) I am going to be a scientist when I grow up because there are many explosions and they help us with lots of things. Sphero Balls

Students enjoyed some downtime as they participated in an introduction to our Sphero Balls and computational thinking. Sphero Balls allow students to work at their own pace, as they discover how to control the robots and program their movements to achieve a specific task. Computational thinking is a 21st century skill that Woodville values and wishes to further develop in our students!
