Dear Woodland Elementary School Families! What a great start to the year at Woodland Elementary School! The first few weeks of school have been full of learning, problem-solving, and tremendous growth. The kiddos have settled in and are consistently showing our community values, while developing their learning skills. What a great place this is! I hope you too have seen this growth at home and are excited about the start of the year at Woodland. As we learn throughout the year, we work hard to align what we do to our district vision which is: Students will grow as problem-solvers to reach their potential in academics, arts, and co- curriculars. The special emphasis of helping our students grow their independent problem-solving skills is an integral component to our students sustaining the strong academic and social achieve- ments that we consistently reach as a school. With that, it is important that students know when they are successful or unsuccessful, and that we all celebrate the concepts of taking risks, failing forward,or learning from what we try. We want our students to own their learning and experienc- esso that they are prepared for the world we send them to when they graduate from high school. As a parent of two children myself, I have seen first hand the value of encouraging risk taking and independence, even for our youngest learners. I look forward to sharing more with you throughout the year! This past week we had an outstanding PTO Fun Run! It was so much fun to watch our students being active and participating in this school-wide event. Thank you to our strong and supportive PTO for organizing the Fun Run, and for continuing to support our students and school. We are extremely fortunate to have the parent and community support at Woodland, as we all work togeth- er to make this one of the best schools for our students to attend. I hope your kids had fun, and I would also like to thank all of YOU for supporting our school through this event! It is always fun for me to chat with all of you when you stop by to school, and I enjoyed that at the Fun Run as well! Connued on Page Two

As we learn throughout the year, we work hard to align what we do to our district vision which is: “Students will grow as problem-solvers to reach their potential in academics, arts, and co-curriculars.” The special emphasis of helping our students grow their independent problem-solving skills is an integral component to our students sustaining the strong academic and social achieve-ments that we consistently reach as a school. With that, it is important that students know when they are successful or unsuccessful, and that we all celebrate the concepts of taking risks, “failing forward,” or learning from what we try. We want our students to “own their learning and experienc-es” so that they are prepared for the world we send them to when they graduate from high school. As a parent of two children myself, I have seen first hand the value of encouraging risk taking and independence, even for our youngest learners. Thank you again for your continued support of our school. I often get asked by parents what they can do to support their children at home. There are still two items at the top of the list that all families can do. First, I encourage you to continue reading to, and with, your children. Taking time each day to engage as readers makes a world of difference for our young children. In fact, I would continue this for as many years as you are able to! Second, a conversation about the day, school, a weekend, something you notice on a car ride, etc. is simply one of the best ways to en-gage our students in their learning. This dialogue about what we notice prompts thinking, reflec-tion, curiosity, and learning.

As always, I invite you to attend a PTO meeting, volunteer, or simply stop by to visit. This is truly a special place and I am so happy to have your children be a part of it. As always, please contact me at any time!

Sincerely,

Timothy M. Doleysh, Ph.D. Principal

PBIS UPDATE

What Are Our Four Community Values?

We emphasize the use of our four community values each day. We want our childrent to be re-sponsible, honest, kind, and respectful. We would like to stress the importance of reinforcing this language at home. Using these four community values as a common language at home and in school will greatly benefit our students. Thanks for your support!

What Are Wolfie Wednesdays?

Wolfie Wednesdays are a green slip filled out by teachers/staff to celebrate exemplary behavior around our four community values; responsibility, honesty, kindness, and respect. If your child receives one of these they put their slip into a drawing to win a pizza party for their class. They also get recognized on the morning announcements.
