English This term in English we will be reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. We will use stories and film clips linked to our topic and use them to write our own stories. We will write fact files about different animals. We will also use a range of History / Geography We will be using Geography and our topic of ‘Our Wonderful World’ to lead our learning this term. We will name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the UK and surrounding seas. We will learn about the PE In Unicorn Class, we will go horse riding each Wednesday morning. Horse riding is a valuable sensory activity and develops balance, agility and co-ordination. In dance, we will create movements to music imagining we are exploring Antarctica and pretending to be Science In Science this term we will be continuing with seasonal change and looking at the weather and different plants we see as winter turns into spring. We will also be studying a range of animals including humans. We will learn about our senses and how animals including humans use their senses Art and Design In Design and Technology we will learn about where our food comes from and use this to design and prepare our own dishes from different countries around the world. We will consider the basic principles required to make a healthy and balanced meal. Computing In Computing we will use a range of technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content whilst researching animals around us. We will use our skills to create our own class fact files on different animals. Our Wonderful World

Unicorn Class

Science

In Science this term we will be continuing with seasonal change and looking at the weather and different plants we see as winter turns into spring. We will also be studying a range of animals including humans. We will learn about our senses and how animals including humans use their senses to find out about the world around them.

Mathematics

We will be using place value to solve problems, by adding and subtracting within a range of numbers suitable to our ability. We will remember how to calculate using money, measure weight and practise telling the time. We will continue to learn about shape and use position, direction and movement to solve problems. We will begin to find halves and doubles and count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

English

This term in English we will be reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts. We will use stories and film clips linked to our topic and use them to write our own stories. We will write fact files about different animals.

We will also use a range of animal poems to write our own descriptive poetry.

We will be focusing on texts such as Rumble in the Jungle, We are going on a Lion Hunt and Penguin Small.

History / Geography

We will be using Geography and our topic of ‘Our Wonderful World’ to lead our learning this term. We will name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the UK and surrounding seas. We will learn about the geographical similarities and differences through studying the human and physical geography of countries. We will use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries as well other countries and continents around the world.

Art and Design

In Design and Technology we will learn about where our food comes from and use this to design and prepare our own dishes from different countries around the world. We will consider the basic principles required to make a healthy and balanced meal.

In Art, we will use our skills to create models and paintings based on animals and traditional artwork from other countries.

PE

In Unicorn Class, we will go horse riding each Wednesday morning. Horse riding is a valuable sensory activity and develops balance, agility and co-ordination.

In dance, we will create movements to music imagining we are exploring Antarctica and pretending to be different animals. We will continue to master basic skills including running, jumping, throwing and catching, as well as developing co-ordination and balance.

Music

In Music, we will be listening to a range of live and recorded music, including music from other countries. We will have Kindermusik sessions with Atala once a week where we will use our voices expressively and creatively. The children will have the opportunity to play and explore the sounds untuned musical instruments make.

Religious Education (RE) and PSHCE

In RE this term we will be learning more about Christianity. We will be learning about Easter and its significance to Christians.

In PSHCE we will be thinking about how we can keep ourselves safe.

Computing

In Computing we will use a range of technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content whilst researching animals around us. We will use our skills to create our own class fact files on different animals. We will also use computers to look at different maps and aerial images of different countries around the world.
