Nov. 6th.
The 2017 LWML Convention— at the Albuquerque Convention Center in
Albuquerque, NM is just around the corner. The members
of the LWML Montana, Rocky Mountain, Utah-Idaho and
Wyoming Districts and the 2017 Convention Host
Committee are looking forward to seeing all of you June
22-25, 2017. With the theme “Jesus Christ above all”
attendees will be nourished with worship and Bible study
and uplifted by speakers and guests. They will enjoy
rekindling friendships and making new acquaintances.
Share the excitement with others in your district, zone and
society. For up-to-date convention information, see the
Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly or visit the website at
www.lwml.org/2017-convention. More details can be
found on your district LWML website utahidaholwml.org

Women’s Mission Trip— The following women are going to Nicaragua Nov. 11 – 19th: Janet Brooks, Amy Hubach, Dawna James, Lillian Pierce, Lorene Schuster, Linda Larson, Nichelle Dykema, Charlotte Campbell, Sandra Hardies, and Bethel Larsen. Please keep them in your prayers.
LWML / Concordia Circle— Meets at 7 PM on Monday, Nov. 7. Hostess is Donna Rookstool and devotions will be led by Connie Stadick. All ladies of the church are welcome to attend.
Voter’s Meeting— The November 13th voter’s meeting will include the annual election of officers. In preparation for the election, a nominations committee consisting of the chair of all boards, the congregational chairman and the pastor as advisory will meet in early November to begin forming a slate of candidates. As a group, they will agree on members to be called to ask if they would consider being nominated for a particular office.
Board positions needing to be filled include 2 elders, 4 outreach, 4 trustee, 2 stewardship, 2 education and 2 preschool. Those who have completed a three-year term are eligible to be nominated to serve again. Members are invited to prayerfully consider how they might wish to serve and convey your interest to one of the nominations committee members: Steve Nisula, Mark Kroll, Chuck Stadick, Mark Elli, Mike Houston & Elizabeth Osmus. Grace has plenty of members whose talents and abilities could be used for building up the church through this service.
Also this is the time for members who are not voters to become voting members. If you are interested in becoming a voting member please contact Pastor Brooks or Steve Nisula. Consideration also needs to be given to whom will fill our Church Officer positions for 2017.
Potluck Information: If you last name begins with the letters:

“What Are We Going To Do?”
“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified
in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
By the time you read this, what seems to be the
longest and most painful election cycle may be over? If
not, it soon will be and we will know who the next
president for the next four years will be.
Many say there has never been such an election as
this. The reality is, we have always had tough elections
and flawed candidates. John Adams felt that if the
country elected Thomas Jefferson as President, it was all
over. Much of the country felt in 1860 that if Abraham
Lincoln was elected, the nation could not survive and it
almost didn’t. And throughout FDR’s four terms, people
spoke of him in the bitterest of ways, calling him a
dictator, saying whoever assassinated him was doing the
nation a favor.
I have always made it my practice not to publically
endorse one candidate or another. The reason I do this
was articulated very well in an article I read recently by
Pastor Joe McKeever.
“My dad was in his 80s and was visiting in the church
my brother pastored. A well-known evangelist was
preaching, one we all liked a great deal. When he got up
to preach, the guest spent a good 10 minutes telling jokes
and put-downs about President Clinton, who was in office
at that time. Dad was offended.
“Dad, the coal miner and lifelong union member—
which in most cases made him a Democrat—said to Ron
and me, ‘What if a lost person in the congregation was
offended by the preacher’s remarks because he liked
Clinton? Because of this bit of foolishness by the
preacher, this fellow hardens his heart and goes out into
eternity lost! Where is the sense in that?’ ”
Read the passage from 1 Timothy at the top of the
page again. At a time when the Roman Empire was being
led by Caesars whose morality and ethics would make
either of the current candidates look like saints, God tells
us we are to pray for all who serve in positions of
authority. Why? Because God’s desire is that everyone
would ultimately live with Him for eternity. My
responsibility as your pastor is not to tell you how to cast
your vote but to help you keep a godly perspective.
If you listen to supporters of either presidential
candidate you will come away believing the fate of the
country is in jeopardy. Elect that one and it’s all over and
if the other one should win, even God won’t be able to
save us.
So, whatever the result may be after Nov. 8th, as
people who trust that God still rules the heavens and the
earth, it is our responsibility to trust that God knows what
He is doing as He moves the events of history toward the
glorious coming of His Son as King and Judge.
As you read through the Bible you will see that God
used many people to accomplish His will. Some have
been faithful believers and some were completely opposed
to God. But God’s purposes were never thwarted, nor will
they ever be. Solomon wrote in Proverbs 21:1 “The
king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD;
he turns it wherever he will.” No matter who is sitting on
the throne or in the Oval Office, God will still use him or
her to accomplish His purposes.
We read about this recently as the people of Israel
were returned to the land of Israel through the work of a
pagan king. In Isaiah 45 God speaks of Cyrus, the king of
Persia by name. And in verses 4-6 of that chapter He
says: I call you by your name, I name you, though you do
not know me. I am the LORD, and there is no other,
besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do
not know me, that people may know, from the rising of the
sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am
the LORD, and there is no other.”
God told Isaiah what He was going to do through
Cyrus 150 years before the Persians had even defeated
Babylon and Cyrus was even a blip on the world’s radar
screen!
So, if you find yourself losing sleep over who the next
president is going to be, think about these verses:
“Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket,
and are accounted as the dust on the scales; behold, he
takes up the coastlands like fine dust.” Isaiah 40:15
“Truly, you are a God who hides himself, O God of
Israel, the Savior. All of them are put to shame and
confounded; the makers of idols go in confusion together.
But Israel is saved by the LORD with everlasting salvation;
you shall not be put to shame or confounded to all
eternity.” Isaiah 45:15-17
“Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he
pleases.” Psalm 115:3
God calls on us to pray for those who will lead us.
And as we pray we ask God to do His will. We pray this
because we know that God’s will is always best.
I don’t know why one person is elected over another –
especially if it doesn’t work out the way I think it should.
Maybe, as many have pointed out, in this crazy election,
God has chosen to give us the kind of weak or wayward or
wavering President we deserve, not the one we need.
Though we don’t know what the will be, we are to
pray, “Father, may thy will be done in the United States of
America as it is in Heaven – whatever that will may be!”
I’m not saying that’s easy but as your pastor, I am
saying that’s what God would have each of us do.
God bless you and I’ll see you in church!
Pastor Brooks
Walking Through God’s Word
Here is the next and last installment of the reading schedule for Walking Through God’s Word. I pray this
is proving to be a blessing for you. I will continue to use these readings for my Sunday sermons. You’ve
probably noticed that the readings don’t follow the order of books in your Bible. That’s because the order I’ve
given here is pretty much chronological.
Please note: there are no readings on Saturday and Sunday so if you get behind you can catch up. And we
continue to distribute bookmarks in church which you can put in your Bible to make this process a bit easier.

The next gathering of the Grace Book Club will be on Sunday, November 20 at 7:00 pm. Meeting place is TBD. We will be reading and discussing “After Anne” by Roxanne Henke.
Summary: When Anne Abbot moves to Brewster, Olivia Marsden takes an immediate dislike to the newcomer. Anne's perkiness really rankles, and Olivia finds the open way she talks about her faith very annoying. Overwhelmed with the prospect of making a good impression in this, her fifth town in eight years of not-so-happy marriage, Anne prays for a deep friendship and finds herself drawn to cool, aloof Olivia. One day, Olivia faces a family emergency and turns to Anne for help. In one evening, the two become fast friends. The fledgling friendship deepens when Anne is diagnosed with breast cancer. Misunderstandings, the shadow of death, and a beautiful new life play out in the alternating voices of the main characters. After Anne marks the first of an exceptional new novel series. Readers will be drawn to the intimacy of Libby and Anne's narratives and inspired by their story of friendship, forged by fire and inspired by God.
Any and all women are invited to join us for a heartfelt talk and a glass of wine! If you have any questions, you can call Janet at 801-518-7319.

This last month the students learned about Joseph’s coat of many colors. We
discusses how his brothers betrayed him, he became a slave, and how his dreams helped
save Egypt. The devotion was tied in with the Bible verse Matt 7:12, Treat others the
way you want to be treated. Baby Moses was next with the verse: My help comes from
the Lord, maker of Heaven & Earth. Psalm 121:2. Then came Moses and the burning bush:
Exodus 3:14 God said, “I am who I am.” We ended with the plagues; and the importance
of the blood of a Lamb on the doorframes so the Lord would passover them: Exodus 7:16
“Let my people go.”
Our letters were I, U, C. Our students are great at counting, and began writing
numbers. Our positional words were top, bottom, inside, outside, up, down, over and
under. They made a silly candy corn man to decorate the hallway and to show our
improving cutting skills. Our crafts were: Joseph’s coat made with colorful fabric, an
iguana, candy corn sun catcher that’s hanging in our classroom, baby Moses in a basket
made out of a brown coffee filter, masking tape mummies, a burning bush with fire
colored tissue paper, and a q-tip skeleton.
We had our Meet & Greet for the Adopt a Student Program. It went very well. The kids
gave their Sponsors a Fall tree as a gift. It was made with their painted brown arm &
hand print as the tree and red, orange and yellow thumbprints for the leaves.
We ended the month with painting and carving pumpkins and studied how they grow.
We emphasized how a Jack O’ lantern represents Jesus’ light shining in us.
With the help of Jesus’ light,

3 Year Old Class
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ October was filled with learning how to introduce ourselves in front of the class; what to do in case of
a fire and more of how to get along, share, take turns and use manners. A gigantic “Thank You” goes
out to Will Gigray (Ms. Amanda’s husband) of the Caldwell fire department for telling us all about
what to do if a fire breaks out, what a firefighter will do when they come to our homes and how they
will be dressed (so that there is no need to be afraid). The children enjoyed meeting a firefighter and
being able to sit in a real fire truck.
This month, we will be having Parent/Teacher conferences, a pajama day, a photo day, and enjoying
a mini-Thanksgiving feast. We will learn more letters (U, C, & O), numbers (7, 8 & 9), and colors
(focusing on brown). Our Bible verse will be “Give thanks to the Lord” from Psalm 136. We will tell
the story of the ten lepers, and David & Goliath. We will continue learning about the seasons, (Fall &
Winter), temperature and hibernation. The children are really settling in and we are seeing
friendships develop on a regular basis. We are grateful for their smiles and the stories they tell us.
We have one birthday this month. Happy Birthday wishes go out to Gunner whose birthday is on the
11th.
Thank you to all the parents and members of Grace who participated in our Trunk or Treat. The
children had a wonderful time.

Refugee Reading Program Needs Volunteers Lutheran Community Services in the Treasure Valley is continuing its Saturday ESL and Reading program with
refugee children and teens. But your help is needed! We meet from 1:15-3:00 pm at Castle Hills Church of the
Nazarene (5707 Castle Drive, Boise, ID 83703) and work with individuals or small groups of children to help
them practice reading English. You don't have to be a teacher to help - just someone who loves kids and has a
little patience!
Also needed are volunteers to drive each week in order to make the transportation piece work
smoothly. Right now there are just 2 vans that pick up kids from over 4 different locations!
Each Saturday a small snack is given to each refugee. If you love to bake and wish to help supply
snacks for one of the Saturdays, that would be a great gift as well. If you are interested and/or able to help with this program, please contact Charlotte Combe
([email protected] or 208-323-0996). Thank you for your consideration of this opportunity.
