GONE WITH THE GOPHERS

For the third-straight season, the Wisconsin women’s soccer was able to secure a Border Battle win after upset-ting No. 8 Minnesota in overtime, 1-0, at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium Saturday night.

Freshman forward Dani Rhodes tallied the game-winning goal, netting it inside the six-yard box in the 99th minute of play to give Wisconsin (5-4-1 overall, 2-2-1 Big Ten) the upset win against Minnesota (9-3-1 overall, 3-1-1 Big Ten).

Rhodes has shown to be a factor for the team thus far, netting two goals this season, both of which have been game winners.

The Badgers came out firing early in the first half, with senior midfielders Micaela Powers and Rose Lavelle, and freshman defender Camryn Biegalski each rocketing off shots, but none were able to find the back of the net.

Both teams started to create more oppor-tunities in the second half with Wisconsin tallying four shots during the period, while Minnesota logged five, but the game went into overtime deadlocked at 0-0.

The match proved to be physical overall, with both teams touting tough defensive fronts and tallying 31 total fouls.

Lavelle led the team in shots recording three while sophomore forward Emily Borgmann added in two.

Powers and Rhodes each notched one shot on goal each for the Cardinal and White.

The playing field was pretty even between both of the teams throughout the game as Wisconsin edged Minnesota in shots 9-8, while the Gophers held the advantage in shots on goal, 3-2, and corner kicks, 9-6.

Junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem was a brick wall for the Badgers, diving into action to collect three saves on the night while Minnesota’s goalkeeper, Tarah Hobbs, collected one save.

ONE FOR THE BOOKS

Wisconsin’s 1-0 upset over No. 8 Minnesota was the first win over a top-10 opponent since 1998 when UW defeated No. 10 Michigan, 1-0 in overtime.

It was also just the fifth win over a top-10 team in program history.

Earning the win in the 99th minute, fresh-man Dani Rhodes blazed in the scrappy goal to lead the Badgers to victory, mark-ing the first time a freshman has scored against a ranked opponent since Rose Lavelle did it in 2013.

On defense, junior Caitlyn Clem and the Badgers clinched their fifth shutout of the season and second against a ranked oppo-nent this season. For Clem, it was her third shutout over a ranked opponent in her career. The Badgers hadn’t shut out a top-10 opponent since that same matchup with Michigan in 1998.

CLEM GEM

A stellar shutout and upset over No. 8 Minnesota has earned Wisconsin women’s soccer’s goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem a spot on TopDrawerSoccer’s National Team of the Week.

Clem and the Badgers upset No. 8-ranked Minnesota last Saturday, marking their first win over a top-10 ranked team since 1998, when UW blanked No. 10 Michigan 1-0. It also went down as just the fifth win over a top-10 opponent in program history.

“In a much needed win against Minnesota, Clem kept the high-powered Golden Gophers off the score sheet, making three saves in a 1-0 win for the Badgers,” TopDrawerSoccer wrote.

The Okemos, Michigan, native has started in net in every match this season for UW and has accumulated six shutouts and 51 saves.

TRIPLE THREAT

In a span of 24 hours this weekend, Lauren Carlini of volleyball, Ann Renee Desbiens of women’s hockey and Rose Lavelle, three of the most talented female athletes in UW history both in collegiate

women’s soccer uniform. Having already made her mark in UW’s record book, she accom-plished yet another feat on Friday, becoming the program’s first top-30 finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Lavelle, a Cinicinatti, Ohio, native, was a 2016 first-team All-American and was recognized as one of 15 semifinalists for last year’s Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy. SENIOR SENDOFF: BADGERS TAKE DOWN HAWKEYES 1-0

The Wisconsin women’s soccer team found suc-cess on Senior Day, honoring its senior class with a 1-0 victory over Iowa at the McClimon Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Emily Borgmann came through with the game-winning goal for Wisconsin in the 62nd minute to lift the Badgers over the Hawkeyes.

Borgmann was able to punch in her fourth goal of the season inside the 18-yard box from an assist by senior midfielder Micaela Powers, her fourth assist of the season.

The Badger offense was dominant in the first half, keeping the ball in play on Iowa’s side of the pitch for the majority of the period, but Iowa goalkeeper Claire Graves was clutch for the Hawkeyes, making four saves to keep the game scoreless heading into the half.

Despite being down in the second half follow-ing Borgmann’s goal, the Hawkeyes were not deterred as they put up a fight in the final five minutes of regulation, dominating possession and engaging in aggressive play.

This marks the first home game this season that the team was able to secure a victory without going into overtime.

Wisconsin’s offense was stellar, outshooting Iowa 13-7 and having the advantage in shots on goal, 6-2.

Junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem collected two saves on the day en route to her sixth shutout of the season while Iowa’s Graves made five saves.

BADGERS BATTLE TO DRAW AGAINST CORNHUSKERS

The Wisconsin women’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Nebraska at the McClimon Complex on Thursday night. Freshman Dani

Rhodes was able to come up with the equalizer late in the second half to hand Nebraska their first draw of the season.

The Cornhuskers were the first to get on the board after Nebraska’s Haley Johnson was able to head one past junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem off of a corner kick in the 35th minute to take the lead 1-0.

After a back and forth battle in the second half, Rhodes was able to redeem herself from her missed shot in the first half by punching in the equalizer in the 84th minute.

Rhodes dribbled the ball up the field and knocked in the goal from inside the 18-yard box to make the game even at 1-1.

Wisconsin kept the momentum going into the final minutes of regulation with both junior for-ward Sydney McGinnis and senior midfielder Rose Lavelle recording shots, but none found the back of the net, forcing the game to head to overtime deadlocked at 1-1.

Both teams fought hard defensively in both of the overtime periods, with Nebraska only tal-lying three shots and Wisconsin recording one en route to the 1-1 draw.

Both Wisconsin and Nebraska were on an even playing field in terms of shots, with both teams recording five shots on goal while the Badgers had the slight advantage in shots, 11-10. BADGERS DROP CLOSE BIG TEN MATCH

The Wisconsin women’s soccer team dropped its second game in conference play on Sunday after-noon at the hands of Indiana, 3-2.

The Hoosiers’ (5-6-1 overall, 2-2-0 Big Ten) game-winning goal came in the 78th minute as Cassidy Blancha was able to knock in the score on a corner kick after the ball ricocheted off of a Wisconsin (4-4-1, 1-2-1) player standing in the goal box.

The Badgers were the first to get on the score-board in the seventh minute as sophomore Emily Borgmann notched her third goal of the season off of the throw-in assisted by junior Alexis Tye (her first this season) and senior Micaela Powers.

Despite being down, the Wisconsin squad came out firing in the second half with senior Rose Lavelle rocketing in the equalizer from the top of the 18-yard box in the 50th minute of action from an assist by sophomore Steph Fabry, her first assist this season and Lavelle’s second goal this season.

The Badgers kept fighting in the second half, earning all three of their corner kicks in the second period, but were unable to overcome Blancha’s game-winning goal that gave the Hoosiers the victory, 3-2.

Lavelle and Borgmann led the team in shots with three each while Lavelle, Borgmann, and Powers also steered the team in shots on goal with one each.

Goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem recorded four saves on the day while Indiana’s L’Hommedieu logged one.

Indiana’s three goals and 16 shots is the most the Badgers has given up this season, however the team garnered a season-high .250 shot percent-age.

THREE'S THE CHARM: BADGERS THREE SECOND-HALF GOALS PROPEL THEM TO VICTORY

The Wisconsin women’s soccer team secured its first Big Ten win of the season thanks to a three-goal half that lifted the Badgers over Purdue, 3-1.

The Boilermakers were the first to strike in the 19th minute as freshman Vanessa Korolas man-aged to swipe the ball into the left side of the net past Caitlyn Clem to take the 1-0 lead.

However, the Badger offense was consistently creating chances as they held the advantage in shots, 8-6, going into the half.

The second period was all Wisconsin as the team notched their three goals within a span of just under 10 minutes.

Junior Sydney McGinnis led the Badger charge in the 65th minute as she notched the equalizer off the feed from Payton Wesley to tie the game up 1-1.

About a minute after recording her first career assist, Wesley also logged her first-career goal.

Wesley tapped the ball in from point-blank range off the assist from senior Rose Lavelle to extend the lead 2-1.

The momentum kept swinging in the Badgers’ favor as sophomore Steph Fabry earned her first goal of the season in the 76th minute to put an exclamation point on Wisconsin’s lead.

Senior Kylie Schwarz notched her first assist of the season on Fabry’s breakaway goal.

The Boilermakers would come up empty-handed in the second half, failing to tally a shot, to give the Badgers the 3-1 victory.

Throughout the game Wisconsin dominated in shots, holding a 10-6 and 12-3 advantage in shots and shots on goal while Purdue had the upper hand in corner kicks, 9-7.

Lavelle, McGinnis and senior Micaela Powers all led the team in shots, each posting three shots apiece while Lavelle and McGinnis also led the team in shots on goal with three.

Clem recorded two saves on the night while Purdue’s goalkeeper Jordan Ginther made nine.

BADGERS COME UP SHORT AT HOME AGAINST NO. 16 PENN STATE

The Wisconsin women’s soccer team battled to a heartbreaking 1-0 loss against No. 16 Penn State at the McClimon Complex Sunday afternoon.

After Penn State’s Laura Suero netted the lone goal of the game in the 72nd minute, the Badgers had many opportunities to clinch an equalizer as senior Micaela Powers took four corner kicks in a span of 14 minutes, however, the Badgers were unable to find the back of the net.

The first half of the match saw both teams on an equal playing field as they were even on shots (3) and shots on goal (1).

Both Powers and junior Sydney McGinnis came through for the Badgers for the first-half shots, but both of Powers’ attempts were wide and McGinnis’ shot was saved by the Nittany Lions’ goalkeeper, Amanda Dennis.

The Cardinal and White kept things suspenseful in the second half, receiving plenty of good looks

at the Penn State goal, but had to walk away from the game empty-handed.

The game was a physical one, with both teams combining for 19 total fouls throughout the match.

Despite the loss, Wisconsin won the statistical battle 10-4 on shots and 5-1 on corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem tallied three saves on the day while Penn State’s Dennis logged two.

Powers led the team in shots with four, while McGinnis and senior Rose Lavelle each recorded two.

Lavelle, McGinnis, and sophomore Emily Borgmann each tallied one shot on goal apiece.

BADGERS RALLY, BATTLE NO. 19 OHIO STATE TO 2-2 DRAW IN OVERTIME

Despite falling into an early deficit, the Wisconsin women’s soccer team battled back and earned a 2-2 draw in double overtime against No. 19 Ohio State at the McClimon Complex on Friday night.

Trailing 1-0 coming out of the halftime break, Micaela Powers and Rose Lavelle combined to score two goals within three minutes of each other to pull the Badgers (3-2-4, 0-0-1 Big Ten) into an early second-half lead.

Powers’ goal came in the 50th minute, which marked her third score of the season. Lavelle found the back of the net in the 53rd minute for her first goal of the year.

The Buckeyes were first to get on the board after senior Lindsay Agnew went on a long run down the left side of the field, found some space and fired a shot far post that beat UW goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem for the score.

It didn’t take long for the Badgers to break through in the second half and take the lead thanks to back-to-back goals from Powers and Lavelle. Powers’ equalizer came in the 50th minute from a long-range shot outside the box that slipped past Ohio State’s goalkeeper, Jillian McVicker, and in for the score.

With the game tied back up at 1-1, momentum quickly shifted in the favor of Wisconsin and led to another goal, as Lavelle followed up and scored with a header off a corner kick – served in by Powers – to give the Badgers a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute.

Wisconsin outshot Ohio State by a final tally of 14-7 and the Badgers also held an edge in shots on goal at 6-4.

IT'S ROSE-Y

Just weeks after earning her way back onto the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy watch list, Wisconsin women’s soccer senior Rose Lavelle garnered another national honor and was named the No. 1 player in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com in the TDS women’s national top 100 rankings for women’s college soccer.

Leading Wisconsin last season to its first Big Ten regular season championship since 1994, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native led all Badgers in 2015 with 17 points on a team-high seven goals and three assists.

Lavelle, a 2016 first-team All-American, was named one of 15 semifinalists for last year’s MAC

Hermann Trophy, becoming just the second play-er in school history to be named a semifinalist for collegiate soccer’s most prestigious individual award.

A first-team All-Great Lakes Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in 2015, Lavelle became the first player in program history to be named Big Ten Midfielder of the Year. The only unanimous selection last year, Lavelle earned first-team All-Big Ten recognition for the third-straight year in her career.

HOT OFFENSE CATAPULTS BADGERS TO 2-0 SHUTOUT

Nothing was going to stand in the way of the Wisconsin women’s soccer offense, and noth-ing did as the Badgers shut out Loyola-Chicago, 2-0, on the road on Monday night. Behind two early goals from freshman Grace Bahr and junior Sydney McGinnis, UW’s offense exploded as Wisconsin outshot Loyola, 29-9.

In addition to setting a new season high, the Badger offense capitalized on more opportuni-ties by the net and struck a season-high 15 shots on goal. Senior Rose Lavelle led the way for the Wisconsin effort firing off four shots on goal in the contest, the most by any Badger this season. In addition, her seven shots are the second-high-est behind her own eight shots against Drake.

It was a staple night all around as both Bahr and McGinnis tallied their first career goals.

Bahr put the Badgers on the board first off of an assist from senior Micaela Powers. Powers threw it in and Bahr headed the original toss but it bounced off the post. Bahr pounced on her rebound, heading the ball into the net for the first score of the game.

The game plan worked as McGinnis took advan-tage of Lavelle’s free kick that was saved from 20 yards at the near post and then fired it past Loyola’s goalkeeper.

Wisconsin held the advantage on shots (29-9), shots on goal (15-4) and corner kicks (9-6), while Loyola had the upperhand on saves (13-4).

Junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem sealed her fourth shutout of the season.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: WILKINS EARNS 100TH WIN IN OVERTIME THRILLER

The Wisconsin women’s soccer team put on a show at the McClimon Soccer Complex this Friday evening during the annual PAC the MAC game, defeating South Dakota State 1-0 in double overtime.

Scoring her second goal of the season, sopho-more Emily Borgmann delivered the game-winner for the Badgers in the 103rd minute of the con-test.

The victory holds even more weight as it marks head coach Paula Wilkins 100th win at Wisconsin. Wilkins is currently in her 10th season at the helm of the program, with an overall record of 100-61-24.

Lavelle found her way onto the scoresheet soon enough, tallying her first assist of the season with a smooth pass to Borgmann, who shot the ball

Borgmann leads the team in points this season with five, more than doubling her point total from last season, but is quick to credit her veteran teammate as a factor in her success.

WISCONSIN AND SANTA CLARA DUEL TO 1-1 DRAW

The Wisconsin women’s soccer team capped off the team’s trip to California with a 1-1 draw against No. 22 Santa Clara at Stevens Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Wisconsin didn’t hesitate to get the game going as Emily Borgmann notched her first goal of the season in the 16th minute of action.

Santa Clara also had a last-minute opportunity to take the game when Katie Pingel took two back-to-back shots at the Badgers’ net in the 89th minute, but Clem dove into action to save both of Pingel’s attempts.

The first ten minutes of overtime proved to be a struggle for both teams to get an effective offen-sive strike going as SCU’s Brittany Ambrose was the only player from either team to get off a shot, and with that the game was forced to go into double overtime.

Overall the game proved to be a physical one, with both teams collectively drawing 32 fouls over 110 minutes of play.

Borgmann and Fabry led the team in shots with two apiece while Borgmann also led the team in shots on goal with two.

UW was also awarded with four corner kicks while SCU had three.

Clem was able to earn three saves during the game while SCU’s goalkeeper Courtney Ogren had six.

ONE FOR THE RHODES

It didn’t take long for the excitement of a new season to begin for the Wisconsin women’s soccer team, just over two minutes to be exact, as Dani Rhodes scored an early goal and the Badgers shut out Illinois State, 1-0, on the road in their season opener on Friday night.

A freshman forward from Waukesha and a two-time Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year, Rhodes fired in the lone goal in the third minute of the game to lead the Badgers to a season-opening victory in her debut.

Off of a corner kick and assist from junior Sydney McGinnis, which created a great scoring opportu-nity, Rhodes knocked in the Badgers’ first goal of the season in the bottom right corner of net just under three minutes into her Wisconsin career.

Junior Caitlyn Clem was in net for the Badgers and clinched her first shutout of the season with a total of four saves.

RANK 'EM

The defending Big Ten Conference co-champion Wisconsin women’s soccer team was picked to finish third in league play, as the conference released its preseason coaches poll. In addition, Top Drawer Soccer released its preseason rank-ings on Monday and slotted the Badgers No. 16 in the country.

This marks the seventh-straight season in which Wisconsin has been predicted to finish among the top five in the Big Ten coaches poll.

PICKETT TO REDSHIRT

Ontario native Victoria Pickett will redshirt her sophomore season.

Pickett appeared and started in 16 matches in 2015. She was awarded 2015 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, named to second-team All-Big Ten, named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team and named to the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Third Team. She was named to Canada’s CONCACAF Championship U-20 roster in November 2015.

READY TO BOUNCE BACK

Michigan is looking to bounce back after a pair of losses last week to Northwestern and Illinois.

UM was handed its first Big Ten loss of the season by Illinois, which snapped a seven-game win streak, which included five conference games.

Both Illinois and Northwestern were the first teams to score first on Michigan all season and Illinois was the first team to shut out Michigan, 1-0.

UM fell six spots in the NSCAA rankings, dropping from No. 19 to No. 25 following its two losses.

WINNING WOLVERINES

Michigan is undefeated in home matches, clinching a 7-0-1 record at home.

Michigan is fourth in the Big Ten while Wisconsin is tied for sixth in the conference.

Michigan had originally been first in the Big Ten before being upset by the Wildcats and the Illini.

Six of Michigan’s games this season have been decided by one goal, with Michigan going 4-2-0 in those games. The Wolverines have gone to over-time twice and remain unbeaten in extra time at 1-0-1

YOU AND ME GOT A WHOLE LOT OF HISTORY

Wisconsin holds a slight edge in the all-time series with a 12-11-5 advantage. However, Michigan barely leads the all-time series in Ann Arbor, 5-4-3.

The last time the two teams saw each other, the Badgers came out victorious in Madison, furthering their 7-3-2 series lead for games in Madison.

Hands over her head in disbelief after the final horn had sounded, not even McKenna Meuer could believe what the Badgers had just done.

In a remarkable turn of momentum and events, the Wisconsin women’s soccer team scored three goals in just over 15 minutes to rally from a 2-0 deficit in the second half and defeat Michigan in a 3-2 final at the McClimon Complex.

Down a pair of goals nearly midway through the second half, Meuer scored one of her own that got a 3-0 run rolling and sparked the Badgers to an unforgettable rally. Fellow senior midfielder Kinley McNicoll followed up with a goal in the 80th minute to tie the game up at 2-2. Then, it was senior forward Nikki Greenhalgh who delivered the game-winner just minutes later and capped the comeback.

SUP SPARTY?

Michigan State is looking to snap a three-game los-ing streak this weekend when it hosts Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Similarly to Michigan, MSU fell to Northwestern and Illinois last weekend. The Spartans lost in overtime to Northwestern, 1-0, and to Illinois, 3-1. Michigan State is currently 2-5-0, and are 11th in the Big Ten standings with six points.

WE BOTH LIKE THE EXTRA TIME

The Spartans have played in six overtime games this season and has a winning record in those games, 3-2-1.

Wisconsin also has seen its fair share of overtime games this season, battling in six overtime games and holding a 1-0-5 record in those contests.

THE LAST TIME

Rose Lavelle ensured there would be smiles at the end of Senior Day.

With just over seven minutes left, Lavelle scored the game-winning goal to lift the Wisconsin wom-en’s soccer team past Michigan State in a 1-0 win at the McClimon Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The team’s top two point scorers connected to pro-duce the late game-winner with senior McKenna Meuer supplying the assist and helping to ensure the five other senior Badgers had something to cel-ebrate on Senior Day.

Not only was it a memorable win for the seniors, but the victory also helped the Badgers (10-4-3, 7-1-1 Big Ten) move into sole possession of first place in the Big Ten Conference standings and move one win closer to clinching the program’s first regular-season title since 1996.

The win continued what has been a remarkable turnaround for the Badgers, who have won seven straight games to climb all the way to the top of the conference standings.

Wisconsin asserted its presence early in the game and didn’t let up on the Spartans (7-4-4, 3-3-2), outshooting MSU by an 8-1 margin in the first half. Despite UW creating multiple chances, Michigan State held firm defensively and the Badgers were unable to find the back of the net going into half.

The Badgers were able to keep up their dominance in the second, peppering MSU goalkeeper Gabrielle Gauruder with 10 more shots over the course of the frame.

The work and consistent pressure finally paid off in the 83rd minute. After Micaela Powers delivered a deep throw-in from the right sideline, Meuer was able to flick a pass across the box to Lavelle, who headed the ball in for her sixth goal of the year. The MAC Hermann Trophy candidate leads UW in points (15) and matched Meuer for the team lead in goals.

Seniors Brianna Stelzer and Molly Laufenberg led the Wisconsin defense in another strong outing, limiting the Spartans to only five shots, including just one on goal. UW goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem and the Badgers’ back line secured their seventh shut-out in the last eight games.

HEAD COACH PAULA WILKINS 10TH SEASON

One of the most accomplished college soccer coaches in the country, Paula Wilkins com-pleted her ninth season as head coach of the Wisconsin women’s soccer program in 2015.

With a pair of College Cup Semifinal appearances and 10 NCAA tournament berths, Wilkins has elevated herself among the game’s elite coaches. During her time in Madison, Wilkins has established a winning culture and produced consistent success with the women’s soccer pro-gram at Wisconsin.

Among Big Ten women’s soccer coaches with 10 or more years of experience, Wilkins is the all-time leader in win percentage (.706). She ranks third in Big Ten history for career coaching wins (217). Wilkins also ranks second all-time in Big Ten history with seven Big Ten titles, and that doesn’t even include her three Big Ten tournament titles.

Wilkins’ work in establishing a winning culture at Wisconsin culminated in one of the pro-gram’s most remarkable seasons in 2015. Despite beginning the year 3-4-2 overall, Wilkins rallied the Badgers to a nine-game unbeaten streak. The remarkable run included a 1-0 victory at Maryland, which clinched UW a share of the Big Ten regular season title—the program’s first title since 1994. Wilkins was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the sixth time in her career and became the second ever to win the award at Wisconsin, joining only Dean Duerst (1996). Under the mentorship of Wilkins, Rose Lavelle became the first NSCAA first-team All-American at Wisconsin since 1991 and the program’s first-ever Big Ten Midfielder of the Year. Victoria Pickett was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, just the second in UW history joining only Lavelle—both coached by Wilkins. Wilkins was recognized as the 2015 Madison Sportswoman of the Year by the Madison Sports Hall of Fame Club.

Wilkins and Wisconsin put together the winningest season in program history in 2014. The Badgers finished the year with a 19-3-2 overall record, claimed the Big Ten tournament title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Wilkins coached Rose Lavelle and Genevieve Richard to become the program’s first NSCAA All-Americans since 2000, while Richard also became just the second player in UW history to be named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year. Cara Walls, Rose Lavelle and Kinley McNicoll joined Richard in earning First-Team All-Big Ten accolades, while Brianna Stelzer was Second Team All-Big Ten. Lavelle, McNicoll, Richard, Stelzer and Walls each earned All-Great Lakes Region recognition, as well.

Guiding the Badgers to a 10-win campaign in 2013, Wilkins became just the second coach in school history to earn double-digit victories in five consecutive seasons. A former All-American herself, Wilkins helped acclimate her heralded rookie class to the college game, while also aiding Rose Lavelle in becoming Wisconsin’s first ever Big Ten Freshman of the Year award winner. Lavelle went on to become the 16th UW player to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors, the first since 2011.

In 2012, Wilkins guided Wisconsin an appearance in the NCAA tournament, the team’s third in the last four seasons, and eclipsed 10 wins for the fourth-straight year.

In 2011, the Badgers made their third-straight appearance in the Big Ten Tournament. Wilkins guided UW to the NCAA Tournament in 2010, the school’s best finish in 15 years, after reaching the third round of the NCAA tournament in just her third season with the program.

In her second season, UW finished with a 9-9-1 record finishing the season at .500, and narrowly missed a berth into the Big Ten Tournament. In her first season Wilkins led the Badgers to a 6-11-1 record, marking a three-game improvement overall and a one-game improvement in the Big Ten from 2007 to 2008.

Following the conclusion of her first season Wilkins scored one of the top recruiting classes for 2008, ranking 21st in the nation and marking the highest ranking in UW history.

Prior to her start at Wisconsin, Wilkins was the head coach at Penn State for six years. The Nittany Lions earned six NCAA tournament berths, which included two College Cup appear-ances during her tenure. In addition, Penn State won six-straight Big Ten regular season cham-pionships, along with a pair of Big Ten tournament titles.

Penn State dominated Big Ten women’s soccer for most of the 13 seasons of the school’s sponsorship of the sport and Wilkins was part of the coaching staff the entire time. She joined the Nittany Lions as an assistant coach when the program debuted as a varsity sport in 1994 and served in that role until she was named head coach at the end of the 2000 campaign.

Wilkins coached nine All-Americans at Penn State, including four-time All-American Christie Welsh, the 2001 player of the year and winner of the prestigious M.A.C. Hermann Trophy. Wilkins also recruited and guided Tiffany Weimer, a three-time All-American, two-time Big Ten offensive player of the year and the conference’s record holder in career goals.

In 2005, Wilkins guided Penn State to a 23-0-2 record before losing to Portland in the NCAA semifinals. The Nittany Lions attained a No. 1 national ranking during the campaign, fin-ished the season ranked No. 2 and earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Three players from that team earned All-America recognition, including Weimer, who was runner-up for the Hermann Trophy for the second straight year after breaking the Big Ten goal-scoring record. Weimer was one of six Nittany Lions to earn All-Big Ten honors that season. Additionally, Wilkins was named national and Big Ten coach of the year.
