Optics Program Objective

• The objective of the Optics Manufacturing

Technician Career Path Program is to implement a structured career training program for Optics Fabricators within the Finger Lakes region.

• The program is designed to• Provide a fundamental understanding of optics

materials and metrology• Improve the fabrication and technical skills of

operators.

Training Scope

• Optics Fabricators produce precision lenses and other optical elements using both traditional manual methods and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) equipment.

• Major functions include: Blocking, Generating/Shaping, Beveling, Grinding, Polishing, Centering, Coating, Assembly, and Inspection.

• This program will take participants from basic fabricating processes to more intermediate and advanced fabrication and testing processes.

• On-Job-Training (OJT) – The employer conducts this training, usually under the guidance of an experienced optician

• Related Instruction – Teaches the theory and knowledge required to understand the principles covered during the OJT.
