Happy New Year!

It is my pleasure to present to the community our winter catalog of enrichment activities and classes. CER Staff workdiligently with community partners to put together these various offerings for the community to enjoy. It is truly ourhope that there is something of interest in this catalog that youwill consider participating in.

2016 was a very exciting year for our department and the Willmar Community.

Highlights include:n Willmar was named a Bicycle Friendly Community n Willmar Public Schools received a Voluntary Pre-

Kindergarten Grant from Minnesota Department of Education

n Rockin Robbins concert series was held at Robbins Islandsponsored by the Willmar Rotary Clubs

n Community Group began planning /raising funds forDestination Playground at Robbins Island

n 7 new playground units were put into six CommunityParks

n e Willmar Warhawks played first games at the CivicCenter

n Robbins Island was designated a Regionally SignificantPark

n Willmar received notice that pending legislative approvalRobbins Island will receive a Legacy Grant for $606,000.

n e Civic Center received notification it was awarded aMighty Duck Grant to assist with replacing the aging refrigeration system

ese activities or announcements had or will have in thefuture, a very positive impact in our community. ank youto those responsible for making many of these investments apossibility.

2017 promises to be another great year as we continue to buildcommunity through the many partnerships and collaborationsthat take place throughout the Willmar Area.

ECFE classes are designed to strengthen familiesand support children’s healthy growth anddevelopment. Ongoing monthly, weekly, andone time classes provide parenting tips that canbe used immediately.

Recreation and Willmar Public Schools. Early Childhood provides classes, events and services for familieswith children birth-kindergarten age. Programs we offer are:

We have limited bussing for 4 year old children.

located in each of our elementary buildings while 3 year old programming will remain

at Jefferson learning Center.

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre presents:

• Come and be a part of this original musical production of this classic tale. This original version is complete with Robin Hood, his MerryBand, Faeries, Gnomes and features The Sheriff of Nottingham as a man ahead of his time . . . eight centuries ahead, in fact.

The audition will last approximately 2 hours and auditioners are required to be in atten-dance the complete time. A portion of the cast will be required to stay for a short rehearsal following auditions.

drawing from a variety of martial arts, in a fun and uplifting environment.We strive to prepare our students in age appropriate ways for the challenges they may encounter in their every daylives, such as bullying, harassment, and physical confrontation. We will utilize games, drills and other tools toeducate and train our minds and bodies to respond to these situations calmly and decisively.Our students learn best when they train as a family. This is a great opportunity to get outside, have some fun and impact the lives of Willmar youth! A WCER coach should emphasizesportsmanship and teamwork and help build self-esteem through encouragement and equal play. A coaches meeting will be heldbefore the start of the season. Mike Lynch Minnesota Starwatch PartyMake the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over the greater Prairie Woods EnvironmentalCenter. This night with the stars, constellations, planets, star clusters, galaxies, and nebulae starts off with an indoor orientationfollowed by quality time outside under the heavens. Get to know the constellations like The Big Bear, Cygnus, the Swan, Scor-pius the Scorpion, and some of the great stories behind them. We’ll also use large reflecting telescopes, including 2 giant 20inch reflectors that are among the biggest mobile telescopes in Minnesota for close up views of star clusters, nebulae, galaxiesand other wonders in our autumn skies. We’ll also use a new astronomical camera-telescope system for extra special views of our more distant universe.
