MINI- MAYNARD TRAINING CAMP Join us for a week-long adventure and discover what it takes to become a future Zoo Director! Our Zoo director, Thane Maynard is known as a wildlife expert, a naturalist, author and a regular on T.V. shows promoting wildlife conservation. Campers will get a hands on look at many different jobs Thane has held on the way to becom-ing our Zoo director. Campers will handling animals, go behind the scenes in Zoo animal areas and create a 90 second naturalist pod-cast. Watch out Thane, these campers are on their way to becoming the next Zoo director!!

WILD WINTER NIGHTS Adults and children 5 years old and up are invited to have a wild time during these long winter nights and sleep over at the Zoo! Have you ever wondered where animals spend the winter months? Or where animals get their food when the ground is covered with snow? Play games, tour buildings, meets some of our animal ambassadors, and even go behind the scenes. We hope youll den up at the Zoo for Wild Winter Nights!

NOCTURNAL ADVENTURES

Roar like a tiger. Fly like a bird. Move as slowly as a sloth. Explore the world of animals and plants in a fun new way through yoga! You and your child will discover more about animals and plants through the practice of yoga. This fun and active program is a beginner/mid-level level class for adults and children and can serve as a great foundation for developing an interest in wildlife and fitness that can last a lifetime. Yoga mats are provided. Please bring a bottle of water and wear com-fortable clothing.

From the softest fur to the toughest scales, we will discover how these coverings help the animals and even have a chance to see what a couple animals feel like. ANIMAL SUPERSTARSCould you beat an ant in weightlifting contest or a cheetah in a 50 yard dash? Investigate what it takes to be an animal superstar and look for some around the Zoo. LETS PLAYWhats more fun than a barrel of monkeys? Animal enrichment, of course! Whether it is a box sprayed with perfume or apples hidden in a pile of mulch, keep-ing the animals at the Zoo entertained can be a creative job. In this class, well learn the purpose and process that goes into the creation of enrichment items at the Zoo. Then, well make an enrichment treat for some special Zoo residents. BACKSTAGE PASS JR. Is your 5th-7th grader looking for a more in-depth, once-in-a-lifetime experience at the Zoo? These specially designed classes allow an opportunity for an up-close and personal look at some of the places the Zoo animals call home, and most even include an encounter with Zoo animals! All participants will receive a keepsake backstage pass nametag on a zoo-themed lanyard as a souvenir of their adventure.Note: Due to the nature of these programs, age limits must be strictly adhered to. In addition, due to space restrictions, parents cannot be accommodated in behind-the-scenes areas.Cost: Members: $30 / Non-Members: $45

MANATEE MANEUVERS Come get an above the tank look at the Manatee Springs exhibit and the maintenance of these amazing aquatic mammals from their keepers and even get to build an enrichment treat for them to enjoy. Dates: January 12: 1-1:45 pm

ADULT PROGRAMS

Join us for one of the most informative and complete landscape series for homeowners in the area. If you are planning on garden renovation or a new installation in your landscape these classes provide great insight on design, preparation and plant selection with emphasis on plants that do best in the Tri-state area. Classes are offered separately but also build upon one another. Take time now to gain the knowledge of soil preparation, maintenance and plant selection and youll be ready to hit the ground in spring creating a thriving & beautiful garden.

All classes meet on Wednesdays from 7-9 pm starting January 18 for 10 weeks.

LANDSCAPING FOR THE HOMEOWNER SERIES

January 8 Design your own landscape Part 1 The focus of this class is the simple steps that every designer takes when evaluating a new landscape or renovating an existing landscape. Basic design principles will be discussed.

January 15 Design Your Own Landscape Part 2This is a more in-depth look at where plants go and why they go there. We will discuss the size and scale of the landscape, as well as proper bed preparation.

January 22 Trees in the Landscape Choosing the right tree for your landscape can be a costly decision. A slide presentation will illustrate the various types of trees that you can use. Shade trees, flowering trees, patio trees and evergreen trees will be presented.

January 29 Shrubs in the LandscapeView a slide presentation on the best shrubs for Cincinnati area landscapes. Whether you have sun or shade, wet soils or dry, this class will present the possibilities of shrubs for the home landscape. Special emphasis will be on the newest and hardiest varieties for this area.

February 5 Annuals: Color in the LandscapeHave you ever wondered what the secrets are to having lots of color in your landscape? Find out what the newest and best annuals are that tolerate Cincinnati summers. Container gardening with annuals will also be covered.

February 12 Landscape Maintenance and Lawn CareThis class will cover proper landscape maintenance techniques from spring to fall-what to do and when to do it. Learn about the tools that make the job easier. In addition, learn the basics to a green lawn. Pruning, weed control, fertilization, insect and disease control for the complete landscape will all be covered.

February 19 Perennial DesignThis class presents basic design concepts for perennial gardens, includ-ing butterfly gardens, shade gardens, water gardens and more. A slide show will help paint a picture after discussing the concepts.

February 26 Perennial Plants Part 1 This is the first of a two part series covering perennials plants for the landscape. Perennials can be used in many ways and for many pur-poses. A slide show will include the top 50 perennials for the landscape.

March 5 - Perennial Plants Part 2The second part of perennial plants will also be a slide show of perenni-als for the landscape. This group will include ornamental grasses, roses, vines and other great perennial plants.

March 12 - Gardening for WildlifeThis class will focus on creating specialized areas of the landscape for wildlife gardening including butterfly and bird gardens and utilizing na-tive plants in the landscape.

Part I: Introduction to Digital PhotographyThe Zoo is a great place to learn to be a shutterbug! During this 4 part series, Brian Jorg, Zoo Horticulturist and professional photographer, will walk you through the fundamentals of digital photography and how to apply this new knowledge to photographing wildlife and landscapes. This class, geared toward beginner photographers who want to get more out of their camera, will cover SLR camera basics, exposure, aperture, shutter speed, close-up, and landscape techniques. This classroom instruction will help make you a better photogra-pher; Attendees are encouraged to bring their cameras to class.

Part II: Travel PhotographyJoin us for a two hour photography class that will teach you how to get the most out of your travel photography. Whether you plan to go to the Great Smoky Mountains for a family vacation or the Masai Mara for a grand safari, we will show you how to capture the trip in pictures. From traveling with gear to how to shoot culture, wildlife and landscapes, this class is for you.

PartIII: Photo Safari-Spring BloomsThis workshop will blend technical expertise with knowledge of the Zoos overwhelming flower displays. We will focus on landscape and macro photog-raphy opportunities with our botanical collection. What better place to learn all the tricks to take better outdoor images than a botanical garden? Attendees should bring their camera and tripod if they have one.

PartIV: Photo Safari- WildlifeThis workshop will blend technical expertise with knowledge of the Zoos wildlife collection. Join us as we peruse the Zoo in search of great wildlife shots. What better place to learn all the tricks to take better wildlife images than a Zoo? Attendees should bring their camera and tripod if they have one.

We are now accepting applications for admission into the 5th cohort of the Advanced Inquiry Program, the Zoos first Mas-ters Degree program. AIP is a one-of-a-kind graduate program designed for educators who are interested in developing their inquiry-based teaching skills and learning exciting course con-tent, all while helping to affect positive social change in their local communities. Co-delivered by the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden and Project Dragonfly at Miami University, AIP combines graduate courses at the Zoo with web-based learning communities that connect your to broad network of educators and community leaders.
