    REV. F R. G ERARDO P. ARROYO, PAROCHIAL VICAR

    PRAYEROFTHE YOUTHON

    OCCASIONOF CBCPYEAROF TH E YOUTH___________________

Almighty Father, God of lifeand love, You love us.

You tru st and choose us toparticipate in Your

    saving work.

Empower us, Your youngpeople, to stand firm in thefaith throu gh Your H oly Spirit.May we bring our fellow young

    people closer to You.

Enable all of us:You r young people, together

with those m inistering to us inthe church, in families

and in society,to make a decisive response to

our univers al vocation:to live fully and fru itfully by

doing everything in love as wefollow Jesus Christ.

In commun ion with the rest ofthe Church, w e pray that this

CBCP Year of the Youthbecom e a kairos time

for the youth ministry ofYour Chur ch and

a new springtime for us,Filipino you th:

a special period of growingin Your grace through our

living in youthful holinessand through our effort

to reach out as a Churchto those waiting for You r love.

Together w ith our BlessedMother, w e lift this prayer to

You in Jesus Christ, Your Son,our Friend, Brother and Lord,in the power o f the Holy Spirit,

    now and forever. Amen.

We are now in the penultimateSunday of the present Liturgical Year. Next Sunday we will becelebrating the Feast of Christ theKing signifying the end of thepresent Liturgical Year. The Sundaysucceeding the Feast of Christ theKing will be the First Sunday of Advent which in turn is the FirstSunday of the subsequentLiturgical Year B.

It is a part of the teachings of theChurch that the time between thePentecost and the end of theliturgical Year represents the period between the coming of the HolySpirit on Pentecost Day and thecoming of Jesus at the end of theworld. Individually, as far as weChristians are concerned, thisperiod represents the time thatproceeds from the day of ourbaptism to the coming of Jesus atour death.

It is no wonder why the Church theChurch is so insistent and sopersistent in urging her children to

see to it that everything be readywithin us by the time when Jesuswill come. It is in the moment of ourdeath when the decision will behanded down whether we willremain in Gods Kingdom for alleternity or be excluded from itforever. It could also be by the waywe decide on how we live our life indaily basis and positing out suchdecision into its practical aspect.

Thus, it lies in our striving to live alife worthy of being a genuineChristian.

Living a genuine Christian life as theChurch teaches us means using ourGods given gifts in a creativemanner principled by two basicChristian commandments or by thetwo love commandments, as otherspiritual writers say, the love ofGod and the love of neighbor.

Hence, let this be the grace we

should ask from Jesus as we waitin joyful hope the day of our deathand the day of Jesus coming.

God gives gifts to all His children.

We are Gods children thoughbaptism. These gifts given to us aremeant to be just that- gifts. Themost amazing thing about thesegifts is that the more we use themfor others, the more they expandand increase in value. The more weturn these gifts into our personalpossessions, the less valuable theybecome. The Lord does not teach us burying our talents. This is themessage of the parable in ourgospel reading. Jesus expects us toboldly to use our talents so that theycan increase.

We could not stand before Godspresence and make excuses for notusing the little that we have.By using creatively the gifts God hasgiven us we are being faithful toHim. This is never boring. Being ofservice to others is to experience thejoy promised by our Christian life.

In our part then, we should alwaysavoid fear and false sense ofsecurity, as what St. Paul saysto his Christian community inThessalonica. For you yourselvesknow very well that the day of theLord will come like a thief atnight. . . Therefore, let us not sleepas the rest do but let us stay aw akeand sober. (v.v. 3, 6)

We should be firm in our belief that

God is reliable and keeps Hispromises. In our part, we are shouldmean to be reliable in our duties, commitments and promises. Eachday we are ready to meet the Lord by doing ordinary things in anextraordinary way. Reliability isbasic trust. It is a Christian virtue. We can turn to God in all our needsin any circumstance we are in.Let us be too reliable in our

commitments to God and to oneanother.

    Theme:Using our God-given gifts

    Object:A Frisbee

Scripture:For everyone who has will be given more, andhe will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even

what he has will be taken from him. Matthew 25:29

As I am sure you know, this is a Frisbee. In a few minutes, this Frisbee will help us to learn more about whatGod expects from you and me, but first, a word from Gods Word.

This morning, our Bible story is a familiar story that Jesus told. It is called the Parable of the Talents. In theParable of the Talents, a very wealthy man was going to go on a trip. He called his three servants together andtold them that he would be gone for a long time and that he was leaving them in charge of all of his wealth. Hedivided up his wealth and gave it to the three servants.

To the first servant, he gave five talents. Now, that might not sound like much to you, but in Jesus day, that

was a lot of money. To the second servant, he gave two talents. Not as much as the first servant received, butstill a large sum of money. To the third servant, he gave one talent. Even one talent was worth quite a lot!

The first servant took the five talents his master had given him and put it to work and earned five more talents. The second also invested his two talents wisely and earned two more talents. The third servant took his onetalent and buried it in the ground for safe keeping.

When the master returned, he was very pleased when the first two servants told him that they had doubled hismoney. Well done, he said. Because you had been faithful with what I have given you, I will give you muchmore.

How about you? he asked the third servant. What did you do with the money that I left with you?

The third servant said to the master, I knew that you were a hard man and I was afraid, so I went out and hidyour treasure in the ground so that it would be safe. See, here it is.

The master was angry. You are a wicked and lazy servant. You could have at least put my money in the bankwhere it would earn more. He then took the one talent from the lazy servant and gave it to the one who hadten talents.

In this Parable of the Talents, God is the Master and you and I are his servants. The talents that the mastergave to his servants in this story was a form of money. But God has given us talents too, hasnt he? God createdeach of us with special gifts and he expects us to use those gifts for the purpose for which he gave them to us.

You all know what this is, it is a Frisbee, but pretend for a moment that you do not know what it is and that youhave never seen one before. You might think it was a dinner plate... or a hat... or perhaps a tool for digging inthe sand. It could be just about anything, but it isnt. It is a Frisbee and the person who created the Frisbeecreated it for a purpose. The purpose of a Frisbee is to fly!

The Frisbee isnt very impressive to look at, is it? In a world full of high-tech electronic toys, it is pretty low onthe totem pole. But boy, can it fly!

Sometimes you and I may look at the talents that God has given to others and think that God hasnt given usvery much talent. We might even be tempted to hide our talent. But when we use our God-given talent to be allthat God intended for us to be... boy, can we fly!

    NO ORDINARYLIFE___________________Dina Tomo, Brgy. Guihaman

This was not been the first time I have shared about peoples lives to myfriends but, nevertheless, this was the most unforgettable story thatinspired our hearts and printed such beautiful lessons about satisfaction inlife.

Each of us was born with arms and legs that helped us to walk properlyand hold something we want to handle. But, what if we do not have thosearms and legs, how do we feel? Of course, others will say they weremisfortunate and unable to enjoy the world. But, I have known someonewho was born with no arms and legs yet he was fulfilled with happinessand satisfaction.

Bygone, when I was viewing videos in YouTube, I was captured by a video

clip entitled Perseverance, this was a story of Nick Vujicic, who inspiredmillions of people about living life even there is a lot of limitations. He wasborn in 1982 in Australia without arms and legs. Although his body wasdifferent to other young boys, his family realized that his mind and spiritwere sharp enough just like others. Even though, Nick has no limbs, hehad touched millions of people deeper than a hand ever could do and guidedthem in ways farther than a foot could reach. He proved to the world thatthere is no reason to limit ourselves in enjoying life. He gave us the hopeto do things we thought we could never do. He told us that when we putGod to our hearts, we feel complete, we are satisfied and we are certifiedhappy inside. This man has the faith and the strength to handle things andwork out for activities which some may thought he can not do it well. Hegave the courage to stand even there is no back up for him to help.

After I have watched that video, I cannot hold my tears. Maybe, those

tears were the reflection about life, a lesson that Nick tried to make usunderstand. When we look to our lives and think we cant do that, we cantdo this and when we concentrate of looking to ourselves and we wish ofhaving things we do not have, we are giving point that we are notcontented, that we are not satisfied, that we are not happy. But, when welook out to ourselves in another dimension and try to enjoy things we arehaving now, we will understand why God designed us and how thankful weare of having such a good life.

Lifes satisfaction cannot be measured by the achievements we haveachieved, by the material things we have bought, by the different placeswe have travelled because sooner or later, all of these will just come to anend. When these things disappear, we ask for more, we look for more, wewant for more - there is no satisfaction at all. But when we tend to open ourhearts and minds and let God be the center of our lives, when we give purelove to mankind and understand them, we will realized the true satisfactionof life. We will never look for more things when we know many people loveand care for us. We will never buy things that we thought could fulfill ourhappiness when we know there are many people who are happily waitingfor our presence. We will never try to come to faraway places when weknow that there are many people who want to stay and bond with us.

Let us be reflected of what Nick had in his life. He had no arms and legs buthe never asked something more to God. Instead, he believed that he wortheverything and that makes him smile- to feel happy instead of getting madabout his situation.

So when you think life gets bitter, never frown, but look through it, andthere you will realize that God has a purpose of everything you are taking.Dont forget to pray, and put courage to face every circumstance that shapesyou. We must realized into ourselves that Gods perspective is for us to

see life no ordinary but a special gift everyone should be thankful of.

Ginasiling nga: Since the 16th century Catholic piety hasassigned entire months to special devotions. As a reminder of our duty topray for the suffering faithful in Purgatory, the Church has dedicated themonth of November to the Holy Souls. The Holy Souls are those who havedied in the state of grace but who are not yet free from all punishment due totheir unforgiven venial sins and all other sins already forgiven for whichsatisfaction is still to be made. They are certain of entering Heaven, but firstthey must suffer in Purgatory. The Holy Souls cannot help themselvesbecause for them the night has come, when no man can work (John 9:4).It is our great privilege of brotherhood that we can shorten their time ofseparation from God by our prayers, good works, and, especially, the Holy

Sacrifice of the Mass. Our beloved dead once they are in purgatory becomepoor souls. They can only rely on our prayers and the intercession of thesaints in heaven to hasten their entrance to heaven. They cannot doanything for themselves, except to wait for Gods mercy and the mosteffective help to the poor souls is the Eucharist or the Holy Sacrifice ofthe Mass we offer for them.

Purgatory: Padre Pio told this story to Padre Anastasio. One evening, while I was alone in choir to pray, I heardthe rustle of a suit and I saw a young monk that stirrednext to the High altar. It seemed that the young monk wasdusting the candelabra and straightening the flower vases.I thought he was Padre Leone rearranging the altar, and, since it was supper time, I... went to him and I told him:Padre Leone, go to dine, this is not the time to dust andto straighten the altar. But a voice, that was not Father

Leones answered me: I am not Padre Leone, and whoare you? , I asked him. I am a brother of yours that madethe novitiate here. I was ordered to clean the altar duringthe year of the novitiate. Unfortunately many times I didntreverence Jesus while passing in front of the altar, thuscausing the Holy Sacrament that was preserved in thetabernacle to be disrespected. For this seriouscarelessness, I am still in Purgatory. Now, God, with hisendless goodness, sent me here so that you may quickenthe time I will enjoy Paradise. Take care of me. I believedto be generous to that suffering soul, so I exclaimed: youwill be in Paradise tomorrow morning, when I will celebrateHoly Mass. That soul cried: Cruel! Then he wept anddisappeared. That complaint produced in me a wound tothe heart that I have felt and I will feel my whole life. Infact I would have been able to immediately send that soulto Heaven but I condemned him to remain another nightin the flames of Purgatory.

Ginasiling pa gid: There are times more souls releasedfrom purgatory during the Consecration of the Mass thanat any time. Christmas is the day of the year when mostsouls are delivered; then feast days of Our Lord, Our Ladyand great saints. Souls receive much grace from prayersoffered for them on their birthdays, day of baptism, andanniversary of death. The more we work for Poor soulson earth the more other will pray for us, the more mercifulwill Christ be with us when we are in purgatory.

Our Lady asked that we pray very much for the poor souls;that we pray:5 I believe in God....1 Hail Holy Queen...1 Our Father....1 Hail mary....1 glory be to the Father...1 Requiem (Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and letperpetual light shine upon them and may the rest in peace.

    Amen! )

Our Lady said that if we pray the prayers well deliver somany souls!

The Holy wounds are the treasures of treasures for thesouls in purgatory

An indulgence, applicable ONLY to the Souls inPurgatory, is granted when the faithful devoutly visit acemetery and pray for the departed.
