Topography & Climate
State brief :
Gujarat is located on the west coast of India surrounded by the Arabian Sea in the West,Rajasthan in the North and North-East, Madhya Pradesh in the East and Maharashtra statein the South and South East. It is situated between 20°1' and 24°7' north latitudes and68°4' and 74°4'east longitudes. The state has the longest coastline of about 1600 km. Thestate has three distinct geographical regions – a corridor which is the industrial mainland,a peninsula known as Saurashtra, and Kutch, which is partly desert and partly marshland.Gujarat has varied climatic conditions. The north-western part is mostly dry due to thedesert areas while the southern region is moist due to heavy rainfall during the monsoonseason. The southern districts receive maximum rainfall, making it suitable for vegetation. The northern region is dry because of the adjoining desert. The Arabian Sea and the Gulfof Cambay make the weather pleasant. Areas like Kutch, Jamnagar, Panchmahals andMehsana fall in the rain shadow region and thus receive little rainfall. The overall climateof the state is extreme due to the variation in topography.

State brief :
The State of Karnataka in western central India is approximately within latitudes 11`31’
and 18`45’ North and longitudes 74`12’ and 78`40’ East. Karnataka is situated on a
tableland where the Western and Eastern Ghat ranges converge into the Nilgiri hill
complex. Karnataka’s total land area is 191,791 sq. km. It accounts for 5.35% of the total
area of the country and ranks eighth in size among major States. For administrative
purpose the State is divided into 27 districts, which are sub divided into 175 taluks.
Karnataka is divided into 10 agroclimatic zones, considering texture, depth and
physiochemical properties of soil, rainfall, elevation, topography, major crops and type
of vegetation. The zones are (1) Northeastern Transition, (2) Northeastern Dry, (3)
Northern Dry, (4) Central Dry, (5) Eastern Dry, (6) Southern Dry, (7) Southern Transition,
(8) Northern Transition, (9) Hilly zone, and (10) Coastal.

Topography & Climate
State brief :
Maharashtra encompasses an area of 308,000 km² (119,000 mi²), and is the third largeststate in India. Maharashtra is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Gujarat and theUnion territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli to the northwest, Madhya Pradesh to thenortheast, Chhattisgarh to the east, Karnataka to the south, Andhra Pradesh to thesoutheast, and Goa to the southwest. Maharashtra's physical features are quitehomogeneous. The most interesting part of the topography is the presence of theWestern Ghats and the Deccan Plateau. The Western Ghats better known as Sahyadri, area hilly range running parallel to the coast. To the west of these hills lie the Konkan coastalplains and the east of the Ghats lies the flat Deccan Plateau. The Western Ghats form oneof the three watersheds of India, from which many South Indian rivers originate, notableamong them being Godavari River, and Krishna, which flow eastward into the Bay ofBengal, forming one of the greatest river basins in India. Maharashtra experiences tropicalmonsoon climate.

State brief :
Rajasthan is a north westerly State of India and covers an area of 132,150 sq mi or 342,239
km². It lies between 26.45°N Latitude & 73.30° E Longitude. It is bound on the west and
northwest by Pakistan, on the north and northeast by the States of Punjab, Haryana and
Uttar Pradesh, on the east and southeast by the States of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya
Pradesh, and on the southwest by the State of Gujarat. The main geographic features of
Rajasthan are the Thar Desert and the Aravalli Range, which runs through the state from
southwest to northeast, for more than 850 km. About three-fifths of Rajasthan lies
northwest of the Aravallis, leaving two-fifths on the east and south. The northwestern
portion of Rajasthan is generally sandy and dry and most of the region is covered by the
Thar Desert, The climate of Rajasthan can be divided into four seasons: summer,
monsoon, post-monsoon and winter. Summer extends from April to June, and is the
hottest season, with temperatures ranging from 32°C to 45°C.

Topography & Climate
State brief :
Tamil Nadu covers an area of 130,058 square kilometres (50,216 sq mi), and is the
eleventh largest state in India. Geographically, Tamilnadu is situated on the south
eastern side of the Indian Peninsula between the northern latitude of 8.5" and 13.35"
and the eastern longitude of 76.15" and 80.20".The western, southern and the north-
western parts are hilly and rich in vegetation. Tamil Nadu is the only state in India which
has both the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats and they both meet at the Nilgiri hills.
Tamil Nadu has a coastline of about 910 kilometres (600 mi) which is the country’s third
longest coastline. The climate of the state ranges from dry sub-humid to semi-arid. The
state has three distinct periods of rainfall: (1) Advancing monsoon period, South West
monsoon (from June to September), with strong southwest winds; (2) North East
monsoon (from October to December), with dominant northeast winds; and (3) Dry
season (from January to May). Tamil Nadu is classified into seven agro-climatic zones:
north-east, north-west, west, southern, high rainfall, high altitude hilly, and Cauvery
Delta (fertile agricultural zone).
